In-depth interviews are conducted with four multicultural adolescents who have dropped out from school and the interviews were analyzed using the phenomenological analysis method. The current study finds that school dropout experiences of multicultual adolescents could be classified in seven themes and those themes are divided again into 19 sub-themes. The seven main themes are as follows: 'the family in crisis', 'maladjustment in school life', 'discrimination and conflict', 'school-violence victimization', 'school dropout crisis', 'nonoperating the mandatory delay before school dropout program', and 'school dropout'. Based on these results, we would like to provide basic information to prevent multicultural youth's academic suspension.

The results of analysis of the research are as in the following. First, experience of afflicting or suffering from school bullying had negative correlation with collaboration empathy skills, and also with school life adaptation. Secondly, assailant group and victim group of school bullying was related to the lack of collaboration skill, and also related with empathy skill. • This study was to investigate factors influencing the school adjustment according to gender and body mass index (BMI) of middle school students who participated in the 2nd-wave Korea Children and Youth Panel Study (KCYPS). This study used a crosssectional design with secondary analysis with KCYPS. The variables were parental interest, behavioral problem, aggression, attention problem, somatic symptom, social withdrawal, depression, and academic achievement. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regressions. School adjustment was significantly associated with academic achievement high, explaining 11.3~19.1% of the variance in boys. School adjustment was significantly associated with attention problem, explaining 14.9~42.4% of the variance in girls. Factors influencing school adjustment were significantly different according to gender and BMI. To improve the school adjustment, it is necessary to develop gender-specific school adjustment promotion programs according to BMI.

The data was conducted by using a correlations coefficient and the hierarchical regression. The major findings of this study were as follows. Firstly, the school adjustment correlates with the impulsiveness(r= -.53), the self esteem(r= .51), and the depression(r= -.56). Secondly, the school adjustment was significantly associated with academic performance, impulsiveness, self esteem, and depression, which explained 51.8% of variance in school adjustment. These results may contribute to a better understanding of impulsiveness, self esteem, depression, and school adjustment of adolescents. Therefore, programs for prompting adolescents's school adjustment should be a planned based on results of the study.

  • This study observed how school resilience of adolescents from multi-cultural families was influenced by risk factors and protective factors. Furthermore, this study verified which protective factor moderated factor to exert positive influence on school resilience. The results showed that risk factors negatively influenced school resilience and protective factors positively influenced school resilience with statistical significance. The results showed that 'high self-esteem' moderated 'negative rearing attitude', 'positive attitude' moderated 'negative rearing attitude' and 'parent conflict', whereas 'teacher support' moderated 'negative rearing attitude' to significantly increase school resilience. The study suggested a measure that can reduce risk factors to increase school resilience of children from multi-cultural families according to the moderation relationship between protective factors and risk factors.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship of self-differentiation, self-esteem and school adjustment among adolescents. Methods: The data were collected from 508 adolescents and analyzed using n (%), t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression with the SPSS 16.0program. Results: First, School adjustment was different for grade, gender, level of mother's education, and economics level. Second, Subjects of self-differentiation was the average score 102 points, self-esteem average score 27.3 points and school adjustment average score 63.6 points.. Third, Self-differentiation and self-esteem had a significant positive correlation with school adjustment. Fourth, Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that family regression, emotional cutoff, recognition emotional function and family projection in self-differentiation, self-esteem and gender(female), level of mother's education(above university), and grade(high) explained 46.5% of the total variance in school adjustment. Conclusion: Self-differentiation and self-esteem were confirmed as having an influence on school adjustment. We need to develop a nursing intervention program that can manage adolescent's school adjustment. When providing such programs, the family must be included.
