A finite element method has been developed to study the material nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrte structures. Concrete behavior under the biaxial state of stress is represented by a nonlinear constitutive relationship which incorporates tensile cracking, tensile stiffening effect between cracks and the strain-softening phenomenon beyond the maximum compressive strength. The concrete model used is based upon nonlinear elasticity by assuming concrete to be an orthotropic material and modeled as equivalent uniaxial stress-strain constitutive relationship using equivalent uniaxial strain. The streel reinforcement is assumed to be in a uniaxial stress state and is modeled as a bilinear, elasto-plastic material with strain hardening approximating the Bauschinger effect. In plane stress state, R.C. beams is modeled as a quadratic element that has two degrees of freedom in each node. And this results of finite element analysis are compared with the experimential results of midspan deflection, stresses and strains.

This paper describes the extension of the numerical model, which was developed to simulate the nonlinear behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) structures subjected to monotonic in plane shear and introduced in the companion paper, to simulate effectively the behavior of RE structures under cyclic loadings. While maintaining all the basic assumptions adopted in defining the constitutive relations of concrete under monotonic loadings, a hysteretic stress strain relation of concrete, which across the tension compression region, is defined. In addition, unlike previous simplified stress strain relations, curved unloading and reloading branches inferred from the stress strain relation of steel considering the Bauschinger effect we used. The modifications of the stress strain relation of steel are also introduced to reflect pinching effect depending on the shear span ratio and an average stress distribution in a cracked RC element. Finally, correlation studies between analytical results and experimental studies are conducted to establish the validity of the proposed model.
In the concrete structures, the magnitude and distribution of the temperature due to the heat of hydration are related to the thermal properties of each component composed of the concrete, the initial temperature, the type of formwork, and the ambient temperature of exposed surfaces. Even though the reinforcing steel bar has completely different thermal properties, it has been excluded. In the thermal analysis on the concrete structures. In this study, finite element analysis was performed on the concrete structures including the reinforcing steel in order to investigate their effect on temperature and stress distribution due to the heat of hydration. As the steel ratio increased, the maximum temperature and the internal-external temperature difference decreased by 32.5% and 10%, respectively. It is clear that the inclusion of reinforcing steel bars on the heat of hydration analysis is indispensable to obtain realistic solutions for the prediction of the maximum temperature and stresses

An analytical approach to calculate time-dependent stresses and strains in initially cracked reinforced concrete section with biaxial bending was proposed. The method utilized the aging coefficient approach of Bazant and the linear creep theory. The position of neutral axis and strain and stress distributions of cracked section after creep and shrinkage were determined from the requirements of strain compatibility and equilibrium of a section. With this proposed algorithm, examples were given for rectangular section and a comparative analysis for stress and strain was also made.

This study analyzed a monitoring data, based on the initial limit values of monitoring in subway, of concrete lining stress and reinforcement stress. The data is obtained from 7 sections of the Seoul metropolitan subway line No 6, 7, and 9 in about 5 years. Also, a research is performed to set up the limit values of management monitoring, which will be applied to management monitoring in tunnel, through comparing the limit values of overseas management monitoring data and that of domestic management monitoring data. And the result obtained from comparison shows that the safety phase is 60% of allowable stress, the attention phase is 80% of allowable stress and the precision analysis phase is 100% of allowable stress. Also, we presented a method of management monitoring by the absolute value which can be easily applied in practical affairs.

A general finite element method is developed to analyze reinforced concrete plates under dead loads and monotonically increasing live loads. This method can be used to trace the load-deformation response and crack propagation through elastic, inelastic and ultimate ranges. The internal concrete and steel stresses can also be determined for any stage of the response history. A layered 8 node isoparametric element taking account of coupling effect between the membrane and the bending action is developed. An incremental tangent stiffness method is used to obtain a numerical solution. Validity of the method is studied by comparing the numerical solutions with other results.

The sectional methods of current design codes have been broadly used for the design of various kinds of reinforced concrete pile caps. Lately, the strut-tie model approach of current design codes also became one of the attracting methods for pile caps. However, since the sectional methods and the strut-tie model approach of current design codes have been established by considering the behaviors of structural concrete without D-regions and two-dimensional concrete structures with D-regions, respectively, it is inappropriate to apply the methods to the pile caps dominated by 3-dimensional structural behavior with disturbed stress regions. In this study, the refined 3-dimensional strut-tie models, which consider the strength characteristics of 3-dimensional concrete struts and nodal zones and the load-carrying capacity of concrete ties in tension regions, are proposed for the rational analysis and design of pile caps. To examine the validity of the proposed models and to verify the necessity of appropriate constituent elements for describing 3-dimensional structural behavior and load-transfer mechanism of pile caps, the ultimate strength of 78 reinforced concrete pile caps tested to failure was examined by the proposed models along with the sectional and strut-tie model methods of current design codes.
