The purpose of this study is to analyze relationship between community participation and smartphone usage level. The study was conducted for 100 people aged 55 or older. We conduct a task-based questionnaire to evaluate smartphone usage level. The levels of smartphone use were reclassified as 0~3 points C level, 4~7 points B level, and 8 points or more A level based on task-based survey score. For data processing, SAS 9.4 was used. As a result, a total of 97 data were included in the result analysis, and 85 smartphone users(87.6%). There was a significant correlation between smartphone usage level and community participation(r=0.22). As a result of using ANOVA, the smartphone usage level and community participation scores showed a significant difference(p=0.04). This study confirmed that there is a difference in community participation by smartphone usage level. Most elderly people showed high smartphone education demand. It is considered necessary to develop educational programs and educational tools to improve educational satisfaction and smartphone usage.

Objectives: This study was performed to identify the associations of empowerment and social capital (such as social participation and trust) with self-rated health in Korean communities with poor health. Methods: This study used the data from community health interviews conducted at 29 administrative sections (dong, eup, or myeon) with high mortality from August to October in both 2010 and 2011 as part of the Health Plus Happiness Plus Projects in Gyeongsangnam-do Province. The study subjects comprised 6,383 individuals composed of approximately 220 adults randomly sampled from each administrative section. The empowerment was measured with five-point Likert scale responses to seven perceived control questions (two at the individual level, five at the community level). The social participation was measured with 'participation in formal and/or informal group' and trust using responses to three questions about trust of others. Results: The high empowerment scores at both individual and community levels, social participation in informal groups, and high trust level had independent and significant associations with good self-rated health after adjusting for socio-demographic factors (sex, age, marital status, occupation, and food affordability) and health behaviors (smoking, alcohol drinking, and exercise) in the logistic regressions. There were weak but significant associations among empowerment, social participation, and trust levels. Conclusions: Empowerment, social participation, and trust were weakly inter-related and significantly associated with self-rated health. More studies are warranted for empowerment and other social capital indices in health promotion.

This paper analyzed the data of 7,486 people who participated in the 4th research of the 2012 Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing (KLoSa) by Korea Labor Institute. The outcome is as follows. First, among socio-economic factors, educational background, total household income and net asset were found to have positive impact on the elderly's satisfaction with life. When the level of the three factors was higher, the satisfaction with life was also greater. Second, the three socio-economic factors (educational background, total household income and net asset) affected the elderly's satisfaction with life through mediating effect of leisure participation. Those with higher educational background, total household income and net asset showed more leisure participation, leading to greater satisfaction with life.

The results are as follows: first, the main effects of gender and exercise participation on depression are statistically significant. However, the interaction effect between gender and exercise participation is not significant. Second, the main effect of gender on depression is statistically significant. However, the main effect of exercise frequency on depression and interaction effect between gender and exercise frequency are not significant. Third, the main effects of gender and exercise hours on depression are statistically significant. However, the interaction effect between gender and exercise hours is not significant. Fourth, the main effects of gender and exercise participation on cognitive function are statistically significant. Additionally, the interaction effect between gender and exercise participation is significant. Fifth, the main effects of gender and exercise frequency on cognitive function are statistically significant. However, the interaction effect between gender and exercise frequency is not significant. Lastly, the main effects of gender and exercise hours on cognitive function are statistically significant. Moreover, the interaction effect between gender and exercise hours is significant. In conclusion, participating in exercise has shown to be beneficial for decreasing the level of depression and increasing level of cognitive function in elderly of both genders. An additional discovery made through this research is that women's level of cognitive function improves larger than men's when they participate in exercise.

The higher team interaction is and the lower team metacognition is, the higher continuous participation is. Second, among team interaction factors that affect a continuous participation in learning community, the more number of learning is and the more encouragement of one another is, the higher continuous participation is. But the less participation of members is, the less flow to learning is, and the less learning time is, the lower a continuous participation is. Third, among team metacognition factors that affect a continuous participation in learning community, the more number of learning is, the higher continuous participation is. But the more use of various learning tools is and the more learning time is, the lower continuous participation is. Based on these results, the convergent ways of support for continuous participation in the university learning community are as follows. Objective : This study aimed to identify common activities with similar participation levels between community-dwelling individuals in the United States (US) and South Korea (Study 1), and analyze the changes in activity participation patterns across the adult lifespan in South Korea (Study 2). Methods : We administered the online survey-based Activity Card Sort version 3 (ACS-3) to adults living in the US and South Korea. In Study 1, we computed the average participation level and visualized 100 activities of the ACS-3 from both the US and Korean samples. The average participation level across the four age groups in Study 2 was calculated and visualized to understand the changes in patterns of involvement across the four ACS-3 domains in a Korean sample. Results : In Study 1, data from 161 Americans and 163 Koreans were analyzed. Of the 100 activities, 48 (instrumental: 20; leisure: 13; fitness/health: 6; social: 9) demonstrated similar levels of participation between the two samples. In Study 2, data from 420 Koreans were analyzed and a tendency for decreased participation with age was found in all domains, except for the instrumental domain. Conclusion : Common daily activities may be used as a means of intervention across cultures in occupational therapy. Protective approaches and support are recommended to optimize older adults' participation in daily life.
