  • In a magnetic train set composed of more than two cars, the installation of dampers between cars is carefully considered for improving both the ride quality and the safety, particularly during curve negotiation. In this study, a dynamic simulation of the ride quality and curve negotiation of a Maglev vehicle was carried out. The dynamic model is developed based on multibody dynamics. The presented full vehicle multibody dynamic model integrates the electromagnet model and its control algorithm. By using this model, the effects of the dampers are numerically analyzed. The proposed damper is installed on the vehicle and tested to analyze its effects. In this study, the simulation and measured results of the vehicle behavior and ride quality are discussed.

  • In this study, a modeling method of power-assisted steering systems and driver models for vehicle dynamic analysis using AUTODYN7 is presented. Pressure-flow relations of flow control valve are derived, and the equations of motion of a steering gear are obtained. Combining pressure-flow relations and equations of motion, the steering force can be represented as a function of steering wheel angle or torque. Driver model was modeled based on a PID controller and forward target method. With the steering systems and driver model, various driving tests are conducted using AUTODYN7.

  • A rubber bushing connects the components of the vehicle each other and reduce the vibration transmitted to the chassis frame. A rubber bushing has the nonlinear characteristics for both the amplitude and the frequency and represents the hysteretic responses under the periodic excitation. In this paper, one-axis durability test is performed to describe the mechanical behavior of typical vehicle elastomeric components. The results of the tests are used to develop m empirical bushing model with an artificial neural network. The back propagation algerian is used to obtain the weighting factor of the neural network. A numerical example is carried out to verify the developed bushing model and the vehicle simulation is performed to show the fidelity of proposed model.

  • This paper presents a design of the controller for vehicle lateral dynamics using active yaw moment. Vehicle lateral motion is incorporated with directional controllability and stability. These are conflicting each other from the view of vehicle handling performance. To compromise the trade-off between these two aspects, we suggest a new control algorithm based on the sliding mode with time-varying switching surface according to the body side slip angle. The controller can deal with the nonlinear region in vehicle driving condition and be robust to the parameter uncertainties in the plant model. Control performance is evaluated from the simulation for the vehicle of real parameters on the road with various tire-road frictions.

  • To maintain the safety and efficiency of railroad vehicles, it is important to understand the working of the brake system with anti-skid control unit (ASCU) for rolling stocks. In this paper, a HILS (Hardware In-the Loop Simulations) system with ASCU hardware (for logic) and a DSP board (for dynamics) is developed to analyze skidding of the Hanvit-200 train during the process of braking. Experimental results are presented for the case that the skid on one of the four wheels is artificially generated using a Simulink model. A convenient GUI is prepared using ControlDesk of dSPACE.

  • During the development of vehicles, durability tests are time consuming and costly. Recently, automobile companies have attempted to develop their own durability evaluation procedures by modifying and complementing . In this paper, we propose an integrated computer-aided engineering (CAE) method to evaluate the durability of a torsion beam axle (TBA). We compare this method with the standardized durability evaluation method used by an actual automobile company in order to determine the feasibility of this method. We compare the results with the test result data to enable us to estimate the reliability of the analysis results. In this study, we analyze the processes and results of the quasi-static fatigue analysis, and found improved methods and problems. Furthermore, we perform a thorough test using the requirements of the actual company. Based on the results, the structural analysis process in the quasi-static fatigue analysis method was superseded by the multi-body dynamics analysis process. Generally, this method is referred to as the resonance-fatigue analysis method.

  • Vehicle dynamic states used in various advanced driving safety systems are influenced by road geometry. Among the road geometry information, the vehicle pitch angle influenced by road slope and acceleration-deceleration is essential parameter used in pose estimation including the navigation system, advanced adaptive cruise control and others on sag road. Although the road slope data is essential parameter, the method measuring the parameter is not commercialized. The digital map including the road geometry data and high-precision DGPS system such as DGPS(Differential Global Positioning System) based RTK(Real-Time Kinematics) are used unusually. In this paper, low-cost cascade extended Kalman filter(CEKF) based road slope estimation method is proposed. It use cascade two EKFs. The EKFs use several measured vehicle states such as yaw rate, longitudinal acceleration, lateral acceleration and wheel speed of the rear tires and 3 D.O.F(Degree Of Freedom) vehicle dynamics model. The performance of proposed estimation algorithm is evaluated by simulation based on Carsim dynamics tool and T-car based experiment.

  • Longitudinal and lateral forces acting on tires are known to be closely related to the tract-ability braking characteristics handling stability and maneuverability of ground vehicles. In thie paper in order to develop tire force monitoring systems a monitoring model is proposed utilizing not only the vehicle dynamics but also the roll motion. Based on the monitoring model three monitoring systems are developed to estimate the tire force acting on each tire. Two monitoring systems are designed utilizing the conventional estimation techniques such as SMO(Sliding Mode Observer) and EKF(Extended Kalman Filter). An additional monitoring system is designed based on a new SKFMEC(Scaled Kalman Filter with Model Error Compensator) technique which is developed to improve the performance of EKF method. Tire force estimation performance of the three monitoring systems is compared in the Matlab simulations where true tire force data is generated from a 14 DOF vehicle model with the combined-slip Magic Formula tire model. The built in our Lab. simulation results show that the SKFMEC method gives the best performance when the driving and road conditions are perturbed.

  • This study aims to investigate the dynamic interaction characteristics between Maglev vehicles and an elevated guideway. A more detailed model for the dynamic interaction of the vehicle/guideway is proposed. The proposed model incorporates a 3D full vehicle model based on prototyping, flexible guideway by a modal superposition method, and levitation electromagnets including the feedback controller into an integrated model. The proposed model was applied to an urban transit Maglev developed for a commercial application to analyze the dynamic response of the vehicle and guideway, and the effect of the surface roughness of the rail, mid-span guideway deflections, and air gap variations are then investigated from the numerical simulation.
