In this study, nitrogen doped carbon felt (CFt) is prepared using thermal oxidation and liquid phase ammonia treatment to improve the efficiency for vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFB). The electrochemical properties of prepared CFt electrodes are investigated using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and charge/discharge test. The XPS result shows that the increase of liquid phase ammonia treatment temperature leads to the increased nitrogen functional group on the CFt surface. Redox reaction characteristics using CV reveal that the liquid phase ammonia treated CFt electrodes are more reversible than the thermally oxidized CFt. When CFt is treated by the liquid phase ammonia at $300^{\circ}C$, VRFB cell energy efficiency, voltage efficiency, and current efficiency are increased about 6.93%, 1.0%, and 4.5%, respectively, compared to those of the thermally oxidized CFt. These results are because nitrogen functional groups on CFt help to improve the electrochemical properties of redox reaction between electrode and electrolyte interface.

In this study, a heat treatment experiment was conducted to select a new melt composition that can easily control the unintentionally doped nitrogen (N-UID) without degrading the SiC single crystal quality during TSSG process. The experiment was carried out for about 2 hours at a temperature of 1900℃ under Ar atmosphere. The used melt composition is based on either Si-Ti 10 at% or Si-Cr 30 at%, and also Co or Sc transition metals, which are effective for carbon solubility, were added at 3 at%, respectively. After the experiment, the crucible was cross-sectionally cut, and evaluated the Si-C reaction layer on the crucible-melt interface. As a result, with Sc addition, Si-C reaction layers uniformly occurred with a Si-infiltrated layer (~550 ㎛) and a SiC interlayer (~23 ㎛). This result represented that the addition of Sc is an effective transition metal with high carbon solubility and can feed carbon sources into the melt homogeneously. In addition, Sc is well known to have low reactivity energy with nitrogen compared to other transition metals. Therefore, we expect that both growth rate and Nitrogen UID can be controlled by Si-Sc based melt in the TSSG process.
We have investigated the effect of annealing on the structural and optical properties of polycrystalline Ga doped ZnO (GZO) films grown on glass substrates by RF-magnetron sputter at room temperature. The structural and optical properties of as-grown GZO films were characterized and then samples were annealed at $400{\sim}600^{\circ}C$ in $N_2$ ambient for 30, 60 minutes, respectively. The field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) were used to measure the grain size and the crystalline quality of the films. We found that the crystalline quality was improved and the grain size tends to be increased. The optical properties of GZO thin films were analyzed by UV-VIS-NIR spectrophotometers. It is found that optical properties of thin films are increased by annealing and can be used for transparent electrode application. We believe that the appropriate post-growth heat treatment could be contributed to the improvement of GZO-based devices.

Tantalum nitrides ($Ta_3N_5$) have been developed to substitute the Cd based pigments for non-toxic red pigment. Various doping elements were doped to reduce the amount of high price Tantalum element used and preserve the red color tonality. Doping elements were added in the synthesizing process of precursor of amorphous tantalum oxides and then Tantalum nitrides doped with various elements were obtained by ammonolysis process. The average particle size of final nitrides with secondary phases was larger than the nitride without the secondary phases. Also secondary phases reduced the red color tonality of final products. On the other hand, final nitrides without secondary phase had orthorhombic crystal system and presented good red color. In other words, in the case of nitrides without secondary phases, doping elements made a solid solution of tantalum nitride. In this context, doping process controlled the ionic state of nitrides and the amount of oxygen/nitrogen in final nitrides affected the color tonality.

This paper describes the thermal and mechanical properties of doped thin film 3C-SiC and porous 3C-SiC. In this work, the in-situ doped thin film 3C-SiC was deposited by using atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition (APCVD) method at $120^{\circ}C$ using single-precursor hexamethyildisilane: $Si_2(CH_3)_6$ (HMDS) as Si and C precursors. 0~40 sccm $N_2$ gas was used as doping source. After growing of doped thin film 3C-SiC, porous structure was achieved by anodization process with 380 nm UV-LED. Anodization time and current density were fixed at 60 sec and 7.1 mA/$cm^2$, respectively. The thermal and mechanical properties of the $N_2$ doped porous 3C-SiC was measured by temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) and nano-indentation, respectively. In the case of 0 sccm, the variations of TCR of thin film and porous 3C-SiC are similar, but TCR conversely changed with increase of $N_2$ flow rate. Maximum young's modulus and hardness of porous 3C-SiC films were measured to be 276 GPa and 32 Gpa at 0 sccm $N_2$, respectively.

ME - ARE (Magnetically Enhanced A Activated Reactive Evaporation)법 에 의 해 합성 된 BN박막의 광학적 특성 에 관하여 조사하였다.
The role and effect of Sb surfactant on structure and properties of p type gallium nitride (GaN) epilayers have been investigated. It was found that there was a increase of hole concentration with Sb surfactant, compared to typical Mg-doped p-GaN. The structural and optical quality of p-GaN epilayers were accessed by x-ray diffraction, photoluminescence and atomic force microscope measurements. The results clearly show that the increase in hole concentration with Sb surfactant can be resulted from decrease in the dislocations and nitrogen point defects.

$Er^{3+}$ doped $Y_3Al_5O_{12}$ (Er:YAG) single crystals, in which the concentrations of $Er^{3+}$ ion were 5, 7.3, 8, and 10 at.%, were grown by the Czochralski method under nitrogen atmosphere. The <111> oriented Er:YAG single crystals with diameters of up to 50 mm were grown at a pulling rate of 1.0 mm/h and rotation rate of 10 rpm. The thick part of the core region was generated mainly when there was a diameter change during the crystal growth. The concentrations of $Er^{3+}$ ion in the crystals were the same as it was in the melt. $Er^{3+}$ concentration of core region was slightly higher than the other regions in the compositional analysis. The fluorescence lifetime was saturated according to the increase of $Er^{3+}$ doping concentrations.
In this paper, we explore interfacial properties of the mineralized CNTs when they are employed as reinforcing fillers in a polymer nanocomposite using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. Recently, several studies on mineralizing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with an aid of nitrogen doping to CNTs have been reported. However, there is a lack of studies on the reinforcing effects of the mineralized CNTs when it is employed as a filler of nanocomposites. Silica ($SiO_2$) is used as a mineral material and poly (methyl metacrylate) (PMMA) is used as a polymer matrix. Pull-out simulations are conducted to obtain the interfacial energy and the interfacial shear stress. It was found that the silica mineralized CNTs have higher interfacial interaction with the polymer matrix. In the future, by examining various thermomechanical properties of the mineralized-CNT-filler/polymer nanocomposites, we will search for potential applications of the novel reinforcing filler.
In this paper, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation was carried to predict thermo-mechanical behaviors for carbon nanotube (CNT) reinforced epoxy composites and to analyze the trends. Total of six models having the volume fractions of CNT from 0 to 25% in epoxy were constructed. To predict thermal behaviors, temperature was increased constantly from 300 to 600 K, and the glass transition temperature ($T_g$) and coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) analyzed using the relationship between temperature and specific volume. The elastic moduli that represented to the mechanical behaviors were also predicted by constant strain. Additionally, the effects of functionalization of CNT on mechanical behaviors of composite were analyzed. Models were constructed to represent CNTs functionalized by nitrogen doping and COOH groops, and interfacial behaviors and elastic moduli were analyzed. Results showed that the agglomerations of CNTs in epoxy cause by perturbations of thermo-mechanical behaviors, and the functionalization of CNTs improved the interfacial response as well as mechanical properties.
