Development of sumi-e effect from example image (예제 기반 수묵담채화 표현기술 개발)

  • Sumi-e is one of the art work that uses not only ink line but also color painting. This technique is well known as a representative Asian painting style and widely used in movie, advertisement poster and various effect in camera device. In this paper, we propose an algorithm that can generate result image with Sumi-e effects of example image based on computer graphics and image processing techniques. For this, we pass two steps. The first is painting expression step. We used texture transfer technique to generate result with texture effect of reference image by analyzing numerically. The second step is ink-painting effect generation step. We express ink-painting effect in outline by considering intensity variation in edge of example image. Our algorithm can express various Sumi-e style based on selected reference image. So it can be utilized to various contents generating research.

  • Recently, the improvement of virtual reality and augmented reality technologies leverages many new technologies like the virtual study room, virtual architecture room. Such virtual worlds require free handed drawing technology such as writing descriptions of formula or drawing blue print of buildings. In nature, lots of view point modifications occur when we walk around inside the virtual world. Especially, we often look some objects from near to far distance in the virtual world. Traditional drawing methods like using fixed size image for drawing unit is not produce acceptable result because they generate blurred and jaggy result as view distance varying. We propose a novel method which robust to the environment that produce lots of magnifications and minimizations like the virtual reality world. We implemented our algorithm both two dimensional and three dimensional devices. Our algorithm does not produce any artifacts, jaggy or blurred result regardless of scaling factor.

The Sensibility of Jacquard Fabrics Applied by Korean Traditional Motives (한국 전통 문양을 활용한 자카드 직물의 감성 평가)

  • In this research, we investigated the university students' consciousness and preference for the jacquard fabrics and developed the evaluation scale of the sensibility of jacquard fabrics appied by Korean traditional motives. 23 jacquard fabrics were assessed subjectively by 466 consumers using the 7-point scale of 23 descriptors of texture sensibility and 50 descriptors image sensibility. The percentage of students who were interested in jacquard fabrics was similar as that of students who were uninterested. 75.3% of students were shown to think that it was necessary to apply Korean traditional motives to the jacquard fabrics. Through cluster analysis, the hierarchy of the image sensibility was examined. The tactile sensibility of jacquard fabrics were classified into 9 sub-clusters, image sensibility of them were classified into 14 sub-clusters. The dimensions evaluating the image sensibility of jacquard fabrics were developed using multi-dimensional scaling method. A 3-dimensions and 6-axes system were determined, which consisted of 'classic-modern', 'splendid-plain', 'abstract-realistic'. It was shown that preference of jacquard fabrics was increased, as image sensibility such as 'various', 'gorgeouse', 'beautiful', 'mild', 'dim', 'traditional', 'orderly', 'comfortable', 'dignified', 'abundant', 'fantastic', and 'vague' were increased and those such as 'intense', 'old', 'stuffy', 'exotic' and 'static' were decreased.

A Study on Contents-based Retrieval using Wavelet (Wavelet을 이용한 내용기반 검색에 관한 연구)

  • According to the recent advances of digital encoding technologies and computing power, large amounts of multimedia informations such as image, graphic, audio and video are fully used in multimedia systems through Internet. By this, diverse retrieval mechanisms are required for users to search dedicated informations stored in multimedia systems, and especially it is preferred to use contents-based retrieval method rather than text-type keyword retrieval method. In this paper, we propose a new contents-based indexing and searching algorithm which aims to get both high efficiency and high retrieval performance. To achieve these objectives, firstly the proposed algorithm classifies images by a pre-processing process of edge extraction, range division, and multiple filtering, and secondly it searches the target images using spatial and textural characteristics of colors, which are extracted from the previous process, in a image. In addition, we describe the simulation results of search requests and retrieval outputs for several images of company's trade-mark using the proposed contents-based retrieval algorithm based on wavelet.

  • 본 연구는 염색 과정 중에 발생하는 수질오염을 줄이고 또한 홀치기 염색기법에 의해 제작된 패턴을 모티브로 하여 수작업에서 얻지 못한 다색 의 사용을 가능케 함으로써 새로운 느낌 의 홀치기 문양 표현과 3D 모델링을 통하여 텍스타일디자인이 상품화 되었을 때의 효과를 CAD를 이용하여 살펴보고자 한 것이다. 연구방법으로는 가장 일반적인 실로 묶기, 전통적인 손바느질 느낌이 나는 시침질, 현대적 느낌이 강한 깡통에 의한 묶기와 기하학적 효과가 나는 접기 등의 홀치기염색 기법으로 수작업 한 다음 CAD를 이용하였다 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 홀치기염색기법에 의해 제작된 패턴을 모티브로 하여 수작업에서 얻지 못하는 다색사용가능성이 주메뉴의 색정리, 색4전개, 색 바꾸기를 사용함으로써 가능하였다 둘째, 다양한 색을 얻기 위해서 홀치기염색의 수작업에서는 상당한 시간과 노력을 필요로 하지 만 CAD를 사용함으로써 이러한 작업 이 몇 가지 메뉴의 사용으로 짧은 시간 내에 쉽게 이루어질 수 있었다. 셋째, CAD를 통한 홀치기 염색패턴의 새로운 이미지 효과를 얻기 위해 Solarize와 Intensity Direct, Effect/Emboss를 사용함으로써 다양한 질감과 새로운 이 미지 의 홀치기염색패턴을 얻을 수 있었다. 넷째, 위의 작업 과정을 통하여 수작업에서 발생 하는 수질오염을 줄일 수 있었다. 다섯째, 이상에서 얻어진 염색패턴을 3D모델링을 통하여 상품의 제작과정과 소비자에게 착용되었을 때의 효과를 미리 볼 수 있음으로 인해서 생산자의 실패율을 줄여줄 수 있을 것으로 본다 여섯째, CAD를 이용한 이러한 일련의 과정들이 텍스타일산업 분야에 충분히 기여 할 수 있을 것으로 기대 된다.

A Real-time Plane Estimation in Virtual Reality Using a RGB-D Camera in Indoors (RGB-D 카메라를 이용한 실시간 가상 현실 평면 추정)

  • In the case of robot and Argument Reality applications using a camera in environments, a technology to estimate planes is a very important technology. A RGB-D camera can get a three-dimensional measurement data even in a flat which has no information of the texture of the plane;, however, there is an enormous amount of computation in order to process the point-cloud data of the image. Furthermore, it could not know the number of planes that are currently observed as an advance, also, there is an additional operation required to estimate a three dimensional plane. In this paper, we proposed the real-time method that decides the number of planes automatically and estimates the three dimensional plane by using the continuous data of an RGB-D camera. As experimental results, the proposed method showed an improvement of approximately 22 times faster speed compared to processing the entire data.

A Study on the Changes in the Make-up Color and Texture by the Type of Make-up Image Shown in the Beauty Trends (뷰티 트랜드에 따른 화장 이미지 유형별 화장색채와 질감 변화 분석)

  • This study aims to investigate makeup images shown in the beauty trends and analyzes the characteristics of makeup colors depending on the types of facial makeup. This survey's collected data includes a total of 365 makeup colors which have been shown in the beauty trends for the last three years. The pictures and vocabularies shown in such data were analyzed and thus we could have classificatorily six kinds of makeup images. In addition, makeup colors were divided into two subcategories: eye makeup and lip makeup, both of which have the most significant impact on the makeup images. As the results, the types of makeup images shown at beauty trends were classified such as natural image, gorgeous image, elegant image, sophisticate image, and romantic image. If analyzing yearly changes, active, romantic, and elegant images were common in 2008, and natural image displayed a certain strong tendency amid pro-environmental trends in 2009, and gorgeous images were appeared apparently in 2010, while natural image showed a bullish tendency yet. Regarding to color characteristics by makeup images shown at beauty trends, YR color in eye makeup and R in lip makeup looked bullish generally, and a lot of changes were shown in color tones. This fact gives help in grasping fashion colors and color tones of yearly makeups. Based on these results, this study examines makeup colors for expressing makeup images closely, and then suggests that it could be utilized in makeup color planning.

A Study on Game Contents Classification Service Method using Image Region Segmentation (칼라 영상 객체 분할을 이용한 게임 콘텐츠 분류 서비스 방안에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, Classification of characters in a 3D FPS game has emerged as a very significant issue. In this study, We propose the game character Classification method using Image Region Segmentation of the extracting meaningful object in a simple operation. In this method, first used a non-linear RGB color model and octree color quantization scheme. The input image represented a less than 20 quantized color and uses a small number of meaningful color histogram. And then, the image divided into small blocks, calculate the degree of similarity between the color histogram intersection and adjacent block in block units. Because, except for the block boundary according to the texture and to extract only the boundaries of the object block. Set a region by these boundary blocks as a game object and can be used for FPS game play. Through experiment, we obtain accuracy of more than 80% for Classification method using each feature. Thus, using this property, characters could be classified effectively and it draws the game more speed and strategic actions as a result.

Smoke Detection Method of Color Image Using Object Block Ternary Pattern (물체 블록의 삼진 패턴을 이용한 컬러 영상의 연기 검출 방법)

  • Color image processing based on smoke detection is suitable detecting target to early detection of fire smoke. A method for detecting the smoke is processed in the pre-processing movement and color. And Next, characteristics of smoke such as diffusion, texture, shape, and directionality are used to post-processing. In this paper, propose the detection method of density distribution characteristic in characteristics of smoke. the generate a candidate regions by color thresholding image in Detecting the movement of smoke to the 10Frame interval and accumulated while 1second image. then check whether the pattern of the smoke by candidate regions to applying OBTP(Object Block Ternary Pattern). every processing is Block-based processing, moving detection is decided the candidate regions of the moving object by applying an adaptive threshold to frame difference image. The decided candidate region accumulates one second and apply the threshold condition of the smoke color. make the ternary pattern compare the center block value with block value of 16 position in each candidate region of the smoke, and determine the smoke by compare the candidate ternary pattern and smoke ternary pattern.

Construction of Information System for Cultural Heritages Management Using Web (웹을 이용한 문화재 관리 정보시스템 구축)

  • Since 20th century, the rapid growth in economy development and ill-advisable construction of infrastructure which causing injury of nature has generated an El Nino phenomenon problems. For this reason, establishment of heritage preservation plan is being required to prevent damages of important cultural assets from natural disaster. In this study, we obtained both 3D-dxf and VRML-wrl(which support 3D image) files from stone pagodas(stone cultural heritages) by using the digital photogrammetric program. Then database are formed by these two files with other attribute informations. And we made existing cultural heritages management information data format to be unified using JAVA, HTML, and Cosmo Player. Thus, we could construct the web-server for Cultural Heritages Management Information System to contribute not only effective management but also ease of use for expert or amateur user in using of cultural assets informations. And, in virtual reality system, we could make texture presented like as actual texture by using the VRML program.
