  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of satisfaction with workplace child-care on the parenting stress, job commitment, and job satisfaction of parents. The questionnaires survey of this study was conducted on 185 parent-employees (97 fathers & 88 mothers) who used employer-supported child-care in the province of Kyungki-do. The results of this study were as follows: As the level of satisfaction with workplace child-care became higher, the level of parenting stress became lower. And as the level of satisfaction with workplace child-care became higher, the level of job commitment and job satisfaction became higher. Among five components of satisfaction with workplace child-care, satisfaction with the environment for child-care had an independent influence on parenting stress. And satisfaction with the management of child-care facility had an independent influence on job commitment and job satisfaction. This study suggested that education programs that target employers need to raise employers' awareness about the importance of workplace child-care in order to reduce parenting stress and to enhance job commitment and job satisfaction of parent-employees.

Methods: The participants of this study were 343 child-care teachers from 131 daycare center in Seoul and Gyeon-gi province. Statistical analyses of data for this study included descriptive statistics and hierarchical regressions. The moderating effect of social support was analyzed by using the procedures proposed by Baron and Kenny (1986). Results: The results of this study indicate that the level of child-care teachers' depression increases the level of burn-out and that the level of social support in workplace and the level of social support from out of workplace decreases the level of burn-out. In addition, social support from out of workplace only moderated the influence of child-care teachers' depression on their burn-out. Conclusion/Implications: The influence of child-care teachers' depression on burn-out was lower when the level of social support from out of workplace was high, compared to when it was low.

  • This study is intended to look into parents' satisfaction of contracting-out system in employer-supported childcare centers. To achieve this, a survey was carried out to 400 parents who use national, public and private employer-supported childcare centers. The results were as follows. First, employer-supported childcare factors were the qualities of childcare environment, childcare program and early childhood teacher in both contracted-out and in-house services. The satisfaction with facility, program, operation and childcare training was improved in good employer-supported childcare factors And the satisfaction with the relationship between these factors could improve the expectation for the use of employer-supported childcare centers. Second, the difference in the operation of employer-supported childcare centers showed that the most preferred size was 50 to 74 children. The contracted-out services was more preferred than in-house services. And the location of on-the-job facility was more preferred than off-the-job facility. As stated above, the preference of employer-supported childcare centers was more raised than that of general kindergartens or childcare centers by an increase in the trend of working child parents' dual income. In other words, small and medium sized childcare centers of some 50 children were more preferred than large scaled childcare centers. Consequently, the retainment of childcare programs, facilities and quality teachers contracted out to professional childcare centers can improve the satisfaction with them.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare working mothers' sftisfaction with child day care service between those using child care centers in their workplace and those using child care centers close to their houses. their demand for better child care service was also assessed. The study findings can be used as basic information for establishing alternative solutions and developing child day care programs able to meet the different needs of mothers with preschool children. The results from this study were as follows. Firstly, there was a significant difference in satisfaction levels associated with the quality of child day care centers (programs and safety) between the two groups. There were no significant differences in satisfaction levels associated with demographic factors. Secondly, while working mothers using child care centers in their workplace were most concerned with the quality of the center, the other group of working mothers was most concerned with the distance between their houses and the child care centers. Thirdly, both groups preferred the idea that the government make child care subsidies. Thus study results suggest the need for establishing systematic efforts to increase child care services in workplaces and communities and eventually support working mothers.

  • This study examined the relationships among work-family role conflicts(WFC, FWC), work distress(WDIS), and life satisfaction(LS) for female workers using child daycare center in workplace. From the data of 137 female workers, it showed statistically significant results that FWC on WDIS and WDIS on WFC were positive. It also demonstrated the degree of WFC was higher, the LS level was lower. The results revealed not only WDIS fully mediated between FWC and LS, but also WFC partially mediated the relationship between WIDS and LS. Comparing to the previous studies that failed to tell the directions of work-family role conflicts on LS, this study distinguished the bi-directional work-family role conflicts in searching for causal relationships among WFC, FWC, WDIS, and LS. This study recommended further studies for comparing female workers using child daycare center in workplace or not.
