The Story of Two Women's Career Transition as a Counselor (두 여성의 상담자로의 진로전환 경험이야기)

  • This study examined the experiences and meanings of career transition becoming a counselor by examining the experiences of career transition process before two women became counselors through the narrative inquiry method. To do this, two counselors with career counseling qualifications and two or more career transition experiences were selected as research participants. The results are as follows. First, they had several career experiences without having the opportunity to think about their interests or aptitudes. Second, it was an experience that career transition adapts itself. Third, as they went through various occupations, they gradually went to the work and study they wanted. Fourth, They were satisfied with the profession of the counselor they had chosen, and they were inspecting themselves as a counselor. In this study, it is meaningful to accept the career transition as a part of life and to confirm the meaning of career transition experience as a counselor walking the path of counseling specialist.

Experiences of Permanency Planning Establishment by Persons with Mental Disabilities (정신장애인의 평생계획수립을 위한 경험)

  • This study is a qualitative research whose purpose is to analyze subjective experiences of permanency planning establishment by persons with mental disabilities. For the purpose, this researcher selected 12 persons with mental disabilities who have been maintaining their job for more than 6 months since they got it independently and then profoundly interviewed them to examine their subjective experiences in permanency planning establishment. Data were collected from Jan. 11th to Feb. 10th, 2011. Statements by the participants were analyzed and, from which, 38 constructed meanings were obtained. Those meanings were grouped and classified according to their similarities. As a result, they were finally categorized into 17 themes and 7 theme clusters. Those 7 clusters included stable job maintenance, self-capacity development, social supports, health management, awareness in preparation for the future, hopeful thinking and various social activities. Based on the findings of the study, finally, the researcher suggested some practical implications.

The study on feminization of French occupational nouns: comparative analysis in the Francophonie (프랑스어 직업명사의 여성화에 대한 고찰: 프랑스어권의 지역별 비교)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the issues concerning feminine forms of nouns which indicates occupations in French. In distinguishing the French masculine and feminine forms, many linguistic issues about feminizing occupational nouns became a hot issue among scholars. However, reasonably logical and effective methods to solve such issues are not suggested yet. The first part is focused on how the feminine forms were historically altered to investigate changing process of nouns representing jobs. Through this, we found that the occupational nouns' feminization is quite related to the social big changes, the woman's social condition and reality reflecting on languages periodically. We discussed the important factors deciding such changes, such as semantic, linguistic and sociolinguistic causes, in the second part of the study. And we mentioned issues which can be suggested in investigating grammatical rules of the feminine form of occupational nouns. The last part is on plans to learn the feminine form of occupations in an effective way. The language is being developed while it is closely related with social and cultural environment of people who use the languages. In this meaning, occupational nouns' feminization is a good example which can reflect chronological and social changes. Through the thesis, we know that it is not enough to provide explanation of changes of feminine occupational nouns about the woman's social roles' alteration. We just hope it can be at least a small help in doing more systematic and deeper analysis which can show the fact that languages reflect the phenomenon of social changes.

A Critical Review of Commitment in the Workplace (일터몰입에 대한 연구)

  • This study is based on a review of the literature on workplace commitment(Cohen, 2000; Morrow, 1993; Randall & Cote, 1991). Commitment is an important multifaceted construct but also one that is hard to define. Given this, this study starts from identifying that how previous research has suggested various conceptualizations for workplace commitment. The aim of this review on workplace commitment is to suggest that team commitment should be considered as one of important commitment foci in the workplace. The implication of this study is that subsequent operationalization, analysis and inference has overlooked differences between these commitment forms, leading to an oversimplified account of employee commitment that mixes together different forms of commitment.

Analysis on the Affecting Factors of School Career Educational Activities for Junior-high School Students' Career Development Competencies (중학생의 학교 진로교육 참여활동이 진로개발역량에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aims to suggest the appropriate career educational policies in order to improve junior-high school students' career development competency through various school career educational activities with the hierarchical analysis by using data surveyed by 10,728 third grade junior high school students of 400 schools from the '2015 School Career Education Survey'. The results showed that 'career and occupations' subject learning, career psychological tests, and career experience activities were found to have statistically significant effects on career development competencies. These results in that 'career and occupations' subject learning, career psychological tests, and career experience activities help to enhance career development competency of junior-high school students. The implication of these results were discussed in terms of the importance and the need for school career educational activities, and suggestions for future research are provided.

The Effects of Career Exploration Journal Writing with Reading on Career Maturity of High School Girls (독서기반 진로 탐색 보고서 쓰기가 여고생의 진로 성숙도에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to measure the significant change in the career maturity of high school female students influenced by career exploration report writing program based on reading activities. This program was operated for a total of six weeks, and it took 100 minutes for two sessions per week with 23 high school female students. According to pre-post test comparative analysis, 5 out of 8 sub-factors of career maturity showed significant change. The 5 Factors are planning, self understanding, information search and career exploration and preparation actions. Above all the factor of knowledge on desired job especially showed a very considerable effect. But 3 factors such as attitude for occupation, independence and rational decision making did not show a significant result. Based on these, authors proposed some improvement plans of the career exploration report writing program.

  • Over the past decades, changes in economic, social and demographic structures have pushed the growth of care employment across countries around the world. Women's increasing labor force participation has squeezed the time so far available for unpaid caregiving and led to increased demand for paid care services. Population aging and increasing needs for pre-school education also have contributed to the growth in demand for care services. As a result, care workers now comprise a large and growing segment of the labor force in many countries including South Korea. But, there are not a few problems. Especially, we take underpaid and undervalued care work very seriously. care work has been generally characterized as underpaid and undervalued compared with other work in developed and developing countries alike. This study tries to show current situation of care work and estimate the wage penalty for doing care work in Korea using official employment micro-data and applying propensity matching analysis. Especially, recent expansion of social service is a big step up for Korean Welfare State. But, there are not a few problems. Especially, we take underpaid and undervalued care work very seriously.   • Computing Technology implementation suggests a dramatic change in work or organizational environment. The study aims to examine how IT adoption affected employees' attitudes toward jobs and behaviors toward customers in restaurant operations. The employee attitudinal variables examined in the study included employees' perceptions on internal work motivation, general job satisfaction, and pride in organization, while positive employee behaviors were used to examine employees' behavioral changes induced by IT implementation. The study sampled employees of full-service and mid-scale restaurants. To test the relationships among the employees of full-service and variables proposed in the research model changed by the IT implementation, six hypotheses were proposed. This study is meaningful in making a progress in finding a support for a link between task perceptions and attitudes in organizational environment change. The practical contribution of this research lies in for restaurant owners or managers to obtain a better perspective of the technology adoption and implementation decisions.

  • There has been an increasing attention to social diversity within communities. Previous studies suggest that social diversity is positively related to social trust and social capital that are intimately related to quality of life. Because of the controversy on social segregation that is an opposite concept of social diversity and is a factor negatively affecting quality of life, more studies on the association between social diversity and quality of life should be undertaken. This study employs a multilevel model to examine the association between social capital and quality of life. We analyzed the association using both the pooled sample and samples splitted based on social class. The empirical result shows that the occupational diversity positively affects quality of life while the income diversity negatively affects quality of life. These results provide useful policy implications for setting urban policy directions.

  • Recently the arts and cultural sector is drawing attention as a new growth engine of the Korean economy. The paper is empirically analyzed on the gender wage differentials in the arts and cultural sector and specially focused on decomposing the wage differentials between the manufacturing sector and the arts and cultural sector. Our results may be partly useful for explaining the existing phenomenon of the arts and cultural sector in Korean labor markets, for example, young, highly educated, part-time contracts, less gender discrimination, etc. The results might provide somehow the policy directions of reducing the gender wage differentials.
