However, psychological and physical factors that contributed to stress were identified: lack of sleep, high task burden, physical fatigue, and boring daily life. Furthermore, the driving crews' irregular working conditions and irregular meal time and burden related to on-time transit service with prolonged immobilization raised their stress levels. In terms of external environmental factors, it was found that driving crews' anxiety due to possible accidents caused a roughly four-fold increase in stress levels compared to other factors. Furthermore, personnel system and salary issue were also found to be closely related to the driving crews' job stress.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand in depth the experiences regarding the healing of stress that takes place in the process of the job performance of fire fighting officers. For this, by having seven incumbent fire fighting officers as the subjects of the research, the individual in-depth interviews had been conducted. As a result of analyzing their experiences based on the phenomenological research method of Colaizzi, the 17 topic bundles, 5 subcategories, and 3 categories were derived. Regarding the results of the research, firstly, it appeared that the stress resulting from the job performance in the diverse processes of solving the petitions experienced as the obsessive anxiety, feeling of depression and sleep disorder, etc. Secondly, it had appeared that fire fighting officers show the strong feeling of pride and sense of calling regarding the job performance, but their dread regarding the life after the retirement was high. Thirdly, it appeared that such stress were offset and healed through the positive experiences, including the professional vocation, companionship and support by the family, etc. Because the high job stress gets developed into the continuous and complex physical problems and the emotional and psychological problems, it shows that there is a limitation to the healing with only the professional calling, companionship and support by the family. As such, for the healing of stress that takes place in the job performance by fire fighting officers and not just for the environmental improvements that are related with the job, but for the psychological and emotional support, this research arrived at the point of the suggestion that the operations of the complex and systematized supporting programs, including the strengthening of vocation and companionship, emotional support by the family etc., must be carried out.

Methods: This study was based on the questionnaire survey carried out among 340 nurses in schoolwork at Korea National Open University. The questionnaire included the general factor, schoolwork related factor, health related factor, work related factor, stress level and stress-coping level. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The mean score of stress-coping level was 2.23 (SD=0.27). Time for study, exercise, and work as well as stress on daily life and job stress were significant predictors of nurses' stress-coping level in schoolwork. Conclusion: Findings of this study can be an important resource to improve stress-coping strategies of nurses in schoolwork.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the trends of nurses' stress based on the last 10 years of international research and to suggest directions for future research. Methods: Fifty three articles between 2002 and 2011 were selected using key words such as 'nurse' and 'stress' from the PubMed and CINAHL. Results: The number of experimental studies increased. The nurses from the various fields were studied. Most studies used a reliable and valid tool for measuring stress of specific nursing staff. The Internet survey was recently used for a data collection method. Significant variables correlated with nurses' stress were categorized into 8 domains: Individual susceptibility, quantitative workload, qualitative workload, physical environment, organizational factors, and interpersonal conflict. Conclusion: In Korea, the next phase of research on nurses' stress needs to consider the experimental study design to find more specific causal relationships. Also, it is necessary to develop the nurses' stress tool for reliable and valid measurement.
