The increased potential for the lifespan of a child with cancer is largely due to advances in drug treatment, radiation treatment, and surgical techniques. In this generation cancer has become associated with chronic illness. Therefore supportive nursing intervention for children with cancer is needed to promote normal growth and development. This study was designed to develop and test the supportive nursing intervention program for promoting body image and self-esteem of children with cancer The supportive nursing intervention program involved emotional, physical, informational, and social support. The subjects were 41 children with cancer(20 in intervention group, 21 in control group) in K city. Measurements were taken concerning body image and self-esteem from both groups during pre and post test The data were analyzed using Cronbach's alpha, x$^2$-test, paired t-test and t-test. The results were as follows : The intervention group had a more positive body image as measured by the Body Cathexis Scale (t=2.436, p=.020) and a more self esteem as measured by the Cpopersmith self-inventory (t=2.768, p=.009) than the control group at post test. According to this study, the supportive nursing intervention program was effective for promoting the body image and self-esteem of children with cancer. Repeated research is needed to develop a refined supportive nursing intervention program for children with chronic illness.
Purpose: This study was to evaluate the effect of supportive nursing care program for patients with total hip arthroplasty. Methods: Forty-two patients with total hip arthroplasty were enrolled in this study from September, 20, 2011 to January, 3, 2012. The participants were assigned to one of two groups: Twenty-six subjects in the experimental group were provided with supportive nursing care program which comprised of 6 nurse visits pre and post operation and 4 follow-up phone calls after discharge. Another 26 subjects received conventional nursing care program as a control group. Hip function, anxiety, and uncertainty were evaluated before the intervention, and 5 weeks after completion of the intervention. The analysis included descriptive statistics, Chi-square test, and t-test by SPSS 18.0. Results: Hip function was significantly increased in the experimental group (t=-3.31, p<.002). Anxiety and uncertainty group was significantly lower in the experimental group (t=7.12, p<.001 and t=4.66, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the supportive care intervention for patients receiving total hip arthroplasty could be utilized as a nursing intervention to improve hip function and to reduce anxiety and uncertainty of patients receiving total hip arthroplasty.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of helplessness, depression, subjective health status, family support, and social support on health promoting behaviors of elderly people over 65 years old. The subjects of this study were 3 welfare centers in G city and C city, 3 senior citizen center and 225 elderly people in 2 geriatric hospital, and this study was analyzed with descriptive statistics, reliability, correlation, confirmatory factor analysis, fitness test, total effect, direct effect, and indirect effect. The direct effects of variables affecting health promoting behaviors were social support, depression, family support, subjective health status, and helplessness. These variables accounted for 66% of health promoting behaviors. Depression, helplessness had a significant indirect effect on family support and social support, and subjective health status had a significant indirect effect on social support, but didn't have a significant indirect effect on family support. In this paper, we propose a new approach to elderly's health promoting behaviors and it is recommended that an intervention program be developed and applied to on personal situation should be necessary for elder's depression, helplessness and subjective health status.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate partnerships with nurses, social support and readiness for discharge among mothers of premature infants in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and to examine the factors associated with readiness for discharge. Methods: A survey was conducted among 85 mothers of premature infants hospitalized in a NICU in Seoul, Korea. The collected data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, the t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson' correlation coefficients, and multiple linear regression using SPSS version 25.0. Results: The results of the regression analysis showed that partnerships with nurses (${\beta}=.32$, p=.011) and parenting experience (${\beta}=.32$, p=.001) were significantly associated with readiness for discharge. Conclusion: To improve the readiness for discharge among mothers of premature infants, developing strategies to strengthen their partnership with nurses and to provide family-centered care will be needed.
Purpose: This cross-sectional survey study explored the moderating effect of social support between hierarchy-oriented nursing organizational culture and turnover intention in clinical nurses. Methods: Data were collected using self-report questionnaires from 240 nurses working at three general hospitals in February 2018. Hierarchy-oriented nursing organizational culture, turnover intention and social support were measured using 5, 6, and 8 items, respectively, of validated instruments. Descriptive analysis and hierachical multiple regression were conducted using SPSS/WIN 21.0. Results: Nurses rated $3.66{\pm}0.50$ for hierarchy-oriented nursing organizational culture, $3.40{\pm}0.64$ for turnover intention, and $3.77{\pm}0.56$ for social support respectively. Nurses' turnover intention was positively correlated with hierarchical organizational culture, but negatively with social support. The moderating effect of social support was not significant in the relationship between hierarchical nursing organizational culture and turnover intention. Conclusion: It is required to improve the hierarchy-oriented nursing organizational culture. Institutional preparation and education are urgently needed to strengthen the boss and peer support for clinical nurses and finally to reduce turnover intention.

Purpose: To identify and clarify the concept of labor support. Methods: This study used Schwartz-Barcott & Kim's hybrid model to identify the main attributes and indicators. In the fieldwork stage, data were collected in Seoul and Chenmam, Korea. The participants were five nurses working in the delivery room and four women who delivered more than two children by vaginal delivery. Results: The concept of labor support was found to have nine attributes and 23 indicators in two dimensions. For the physical intervention dimension, five attributes were derived. They were pain relief, selective use of technology, ambulation/positioning, physiological pushing, and increasing comfort. For the labor support practices dimension the attributeswereprovidinginformation, relief and encouragement, family support, and presence. Conclusion: The concept analysis of labor support in this study could provide guidelines for 'labor support' nursing practice and be useful for research in the women's health field.
This study was designed to examine the effects of self-efficacy and social support on test anxiety among nursing students taking the National Examination for Registered Nurses. A convenience sample of 212 nursing students was obtained from three nursing colleges. Data were collected by a self-administered questionnaire during December 2015. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson correlations and multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 18.0. The mean score for test anxiety was located in the middle range, with the score of $2.84{\pm}0.53$; those for self-efficacy and social support were located higher in the 1-5 scale, each scoring $3.50{\pm}0.54$ and $3.72{\pm}0.48$. Test anxiety correlated negatively with self-efficacy (r=-.32, p<.001), social support (r=-.27, p<.001), friends support (r=-.21, p=.002), family support (r=-.25, p<.001) and professor support (r=-.14, p=.038). Self-efficacy, family support and gender explained 13.0% of participants' test anxiety (F=11.01, p<.001). Findings from this study suggests that improving the self-efficacy and family support will be helpful for nursing students to relieve their test anxiety.
