  • The objective of the study is to examine the perception of the residents in the Civilian Control Zone (CCZ) and the competent local government officials for nature conservation and local development. A survey was conducted on 265 residents as well as 285 government officials from Paju and Yeoncheon Municipals. Both residents and officials perceived the value of biodiversity, natural ecosystem and landscape in the CCZ and seemed to have a sense of pride regarding it. However, they conceived that nature has not been conserved properly and residents in Yeoncheon showed more concern on this matter than residents in Paju. Overall, residents were more devoted to nature conservation or perceived the importance of accordance with nature conservation in local development, which implicates the sound foundation of perception and good prospect for sustainable development in CCZ. Owing to the difference in situation, there was a significant difference in perception between residents and officials. There is a possibility of conflict in Paju because residents desired more local development, whereas officials showed more purpose for nature conservation. In order to achieve simultaneously local development and nature conservation in CCZ, we should pay special attention to studies on living standards of local residents and scientific surveys on natural resources.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the dietary habits and perception of vegetable intake of elementary students in Gwangju and Jeonnam Gokseong county. Data collection was conducted from 5th and 6th grade students of elementary schools in Gwangju and Jeonnam Gokseong county using a structured questionnaire survey. The SPSS program was used for statistics processing and data analysis. The chi-square test was also conducted. In terms of dietary intake habits, female students consumed their meals slower than male students. Information on dietary habits and nutrition was commonly obtained from family, including the mother or father who commonly prepared meals at home. Snacks were commonly consumed less than twice daily, with the Gwangju area having a higher frequency of snacks than the Jeonnam area. Elementary students indicated that vegetables were their least favorite food, with female students having a higher interest in vegetables than male students. The pattern and perception of vegetable intake came when the students (that did not eat vegetables) were lectured by their parents on the nutritive value of vegetables. Most students understood the important nutritional ingredients of vegetables. In the case of an interest in vegetables, the Gwangju area showed significantly more comprehension than the Jeonnam area on the definition and role of dietary fiber, the dental benefits of dietary fiber, and the identification of the environment-friendly certification mark.

Methods : A total of 89 older adults were recruited from a public health center in Gyeonggi-do. Awareness, experience, and related education regarding community-based dysphagia therapy were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results : We analyzed 89 questionnaires. Awareness, treatment experience, and education regarding dysphagia were low; however, the importance and intention to participate were high. Respondents wanted education about proper chewing and safe swallowing, oral health, oral motor exercise, and participation in community-based dysphagia programs in public health centers. The reason for the lack of experience in dysphagia education and therapy is insufficient information and opportunities. The respondents had a good understanding of dysphagia symptoms. Conclusion : Dysphagia therapy maintains swallowing and eating functions as a life-long Activity of Daily Living, and is a very important area in community rehabilitation. Based on the results of this survey, the necessity and importance of community-based dysphagia were identified. It is time to provide correct information and develop a systematic education program for community-based dysphagia therapy. Occupational therapists need to play an active role in improving quality of life by early detection and providing proper intervention.

  • The primary aim of this study is to provide effective operational directions of multi-purpose maneuver patrol via practical analysis on the fear of crime and its impact factors in the Hot Spots Policing target region. Comparative Analysis on fear of crime and its impact factors such as informal social control, disorder, and the perception of police activities is conducted in regions of maneuver patrol against its neighborhood. In Conclusion, no evident differences in fear of crime between the regions of maneuver patrol and its neighborhood were found. However, regions of maneuver patrol displayed significant distinctions in informal social control and perception of crime frequency in comparison to its neighborhood of no such patrol. In addition, it was noticed that in both regions disorder and perception of crime frequency served as the impact factors of fear of crime, which in part exhibits positive relationship with perception of hot spots policing. This study concludes that criterion in deciding on the regions of maneuver patrol should include subjective impact factors such as fear of crime. Furthermore, it suggests that along with the current unsatisfactory maneuver patrol system there needs specific guideline to enhance the perception of police activities including strengthened interactions with residents, improvement in social disorder.

  • There have been a growing number of studies that show huge discrepancies between individuals' perceptions of relative economic position and the economic position based on the reported income in the survey. If this is the case, it is expected that the impact of perceived income status on individual happiness can be different from that of objective income status based on the reported income. The aim of this study is to investigate the factors affecting the discrepancies between perception and reality with respect to relative income status, focusing on the 'Reference group theory'. This study also tries to extend existing knowledge of the relative status on the happiness level of individuals, by examining how individual's happiness can be changed by providing the accurate information about their objective income level. There are systematic biases in perceived income status. A majority of people who actually rank in the lower part of income ladder place themselves in higher positions, while a significant portion of rich individuals underestimate their actual income status. Secondly, the misperception about the income distribution is affected by a variety of individual, household characteristics and reference group income. Thirdly, providing individuals with accurate information has a considerable effect on their happiness level.
