Development of Creative Problem-Solving Activities for Integrating Mathematics and Information Science: Focusing on the Hat Game for Mathematically Gifted Students (수학 정보과학 융합을 위한 창의적 문제해결 활동 개발: 영재 학생을 대상으로 한 모자 게임을 중심으로)

  • The future society requires not only knowledge but also various competencies, including creativity, cooperative spirit and integrated thinking. This research develops a program for integrating mathematics and information science to enhance important mathematical competencies such as problem-solving and communication. This program does not require much prior knowledge, can be motivated using everyday language and easy-to-access tools, and is based on creative problem-solving activities with multilateral cooperation. The usefulness and rigor of mathematics are emphasized as the number of participants increases in the activities, and theoretical principles stem from the matrix theory over finite fields. Moreover, the activity highlights a connection with error-correcting codes, an important topic in information science. We expect that the real-world contexts of this program contribute to enhancing mathematical communication competence and providing an opportunity to experience the values of mathematics and that this program to be accessible to teachers since coding is not included.

  • IRWMS(Integrated Real time Water Management System)은 우리나라의 수자원 운영환경에 부합하도록 하천유역에 수자원 통합관리 개념을 도입한 실시간 물관리 의사결정지원 시스템이다. 국내 기술로 개발하여 실무에 적용함으로써 수자원 이용 효율을 극대화하고 선진국 수준의 수자원 관리기술을 확보하기 위한 방안으로 개발되어졌다. 이러한 물관리 시스템 구축을 위해서는 통합 유역에 적합한 모형의 선택과 이수, 치수, 수질 관리 모델의 통합 방안, 해당 유역특성을 반영한 시스템 구성 방법, 각각의 모형의 입,출력 자료의 관리 및 실무에 적용하기 용이한 GUI 구성 등을 고려하여야 한다. 물관리 시스템은 GIS 기반의 해석모형과 웹기반의 정보, 지식 전달 시스템, 수문자료 관리를 위한 DB시스템 등으로 구성되어져 있으며 SOBEK, RIBASIM, MIKE BASIN, WEAP 등 다양한 물관리 시스템들은 각각의 개발 시기나 쓰임에 따라 해석모형과 DB의 사용유무 등 여러 기능들을 차별화하여 구성하고 있다. RIBASIM(RIver BAsin SIMulation)의 경우 다양한 해석모형 들을 각각의 과정에 따라 사용하고 있으며 CMT(Case Management tool), CAT(Case Analysis Tool)라 불리는 기능들을 통하여 각각의 과정을 순차적으로 진행하고 분석하고 있으며 자사의 수문DB관리 프로그램, 수질, GIS도구 등과 연동하여 사용되고 있다. MIKE BASIN의 경우 ArcGIS의 EXTENSION으로 강력한 GIS기능과 비쥬얼한 화면 구성을 그 특징으로 가지고 있다. IRWMS는 강우유출모형과 댐군 저수지 연계 운영모형, 수질모형으로 구성되어져 있으며 DB와의 연동을 통하여 실시간으로 의사결정자들이 의사결정을 지원하며 실무진 중심의 GUI구성을 통하여 실용성을 중심에 두었다. IRWMS는 금강, 낙동강의 구축사례에서 보듯이 실시간 운영으로 수자원 관리 실무진의 사용에 그 주안점을 두었지만 차후 범용화와 상기에서 언급한 여러 국내외 시스템들의 장점을 받아들인다면 각각의 유역특성에 맞는 다양한 활용으로 수자원기술의 선진화에 크게 기여를 할 것이다.

A Method for Developing Items to Assess Earth Science Creativity (지구과학 창의력 평가 문항 개발 방법에 관한 연구)

  • This study suggests methods of assessing scientific creativity and developing items, which can be achieved when both earth science knowledge and general creativity are applied at the same time. According to the results of this study, the cognitive ability gaps between creativity and scientific creativity were clearly defined by the terms' operational definition. Four factors in the Subcategory Of Scientific Creativity-fluency, flexibility, elaboration, and originality-were selected, and the possibility of developing items out of these factors was discovered. The operational definitions of the four factors were given and the criteria for assessment and scoring were set. The validity, reliability, discrimination, and difficulty, which were the conditions required for the assessment instruments, were verified through three field trials of inputting the assessment instruments for scientific creativity. The assessment instruments were composed of 8 items with 2items for each factor. The average item fitness index obtained was 0.99, Cronbach , the item inter-consistency was 0.79,the inter-rater reliability of each item was 0.78, the inter-rater reliability of each factor was 0.75, the item discrimination power was 0.19, and the item difficulty was 0.00. Because the results were within the permitted limit of the conditions required for assessment instruments, the assessment instruments developed for scientific creativity in this study can be said to be very favorable.

Development of Program for Discretionary Activity Focused on Multiple Activity with Everyday-Life Materials to Enhance Scientific Creativity for Grade 6-7 Students and Exploring the Influence (과학창의력 신장을 위한 ‘일상생활 소재 다중활동’ 중심의 6~7학년 ‘재량활동’)

  • In this study, we developed the program for 'Discretionary Activity' focusing on the multiple activities with everyday-life materials to enhance scientific creativity (MAEM-SC), which was specifically for students in the 6-7th grade according to the 7th curriculum in Korea. As important factors for scientific creativity, we selected the ability to find out the context relevant to scientific problems, the ability to connect the problem context to scientific knowledge, the ability to invent the ways to solve the problem scientifically, and ability to concentrate on the scientific problem solving activity. The topics of the program were drawn from common and familiar things in our everyday contexts, such as human body, everyday tools, food, play and toys, and everyday episodes. The multiple activities here mean the activities which are systematically constructed with the various types of activities with a specific intention. The multiple activities were designed in three types, that is, series type, parallel type, and combination type. Each of them consists of the several activities as follows: estimating and measuring, carrying out an experiment using body, inventing implement (tools), thinking statistically, writing creatively with scientific themes, and connecting one concept to another concept etc. Through a trial of the program, we found that this program has some positive influence on the enhancement both of the ability to find out the context relevant to scientific problems and the ability to connect it to the students' existing scientific knowledge.

Design and Implement an Internet-Based Courseware (인터넷 기반의 코스웨어의 설계 및 구현)

  • The purpose of thesis is to design and implement an efficient Internet-Based courseware which facilitates the problem solving learning. This courseware was developed in order to provide important foundations of learning in open-education environment using WWW. The targeted level is elementary students, To do this, the definition of problem solving, its processes, and advantages or pitfalls of computer-based problem solving learning were examined, with the advantage of using WWW as an educational tool. The theme of implemented courseware was selected from SATIS which is relevant for the problem solving learning. The courseware has three main parts; learning activity module, teaching activity module, and learning tool module. The learning activity module controls courseware flows and was implemented in accordance with the problem-based teaming processes. It: can be proceeded either sequential way or random access by setting linker. The advantage of random accessing method is that it may facilitate student learning because each student can regulate their learning processes which correspond to their own experiences. The teaching activity module provides for teachers useful informations for helping student's learning and it also can be used as an assessment tool for student's achievements, The learning: tool module consists of conversational note, e-mail address, help, and search tool. It is linked with learning activity module and teaching activity module so that teachers and students can actively participate in teaching-learning processes.

Efficient Learning of Bayesian Networks using Entropy (효율적인 베이지안망 학습을 위한 엔트로피 적용)

  • Bayesian networks are known as the best tools to express and predict the domain knowledge with uncertain environments. However, bayesian learning could be too difficult to do effective and reliable searching. To solve the problems of overtime demand, the nodes should be arranged orderly, so that effective structural learning can be possible. This paper suggests the classification learning model to reduce the errors in the independent condition, in which a lot of variables exist and data can increase the reliability by calculating the each entropy of probabilities depending on each circumstances. Also efficient learning models are suggested to decide the order of nodes, that has lowest entropy by calculating the numerical values of entropy of each node in K2 algorithm. Consequently the model of the most suitably settled Bayesian networks could be constructed as quickly as possible.

  • This study analyzes the realities of computer curriculum to accommodate computer study as an elementary and secondary educational course of study, and reviews its value and character as a course of computer subject matter, and the strategy for organizing educational courses, reflecting those value and character, etc. First of all, the study raises some questions on the excessively instrumentaI and study-oriented approach of the computer educational curricula at this point of time, as well as summarizing and analyzing viewpoints from the related societies and experts on the character and distinctive feature of the computer study. And this study verifies that the character of computer study is pretty similar to the empirical meaning curriculum from the viewpoint of an educational scholar. Based on the foregoing, a strategy is needed to expand the extrinsic value of computer study as an elementary and secondary school educational curriculum, clarify the knowledge structure internally and to organize a computer subject curriculum which is closely related to daily life of students.

Development of a Test of Science Inquiry Skills for Elementary School Fifth and Sixth Graders (초등학교 고학년 학생의 과학 탐구능력 측정을 위한 평가 도구 개발)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a valid and reliable evaluating instrument for elementary school fifth and sixth graders. The instrument is developed through R&D procedure, which includes two checks of science specialist and two field trials of the instrument. Evaluating items are content-free for each science inquiry skill. Each science inquiry element is based on SAPA and the 7th curriculum. This study has selected 10 science inquiry skills(observing, classifying, measuring, predicting, inferring, recognizing of a problem, controlling variables, interpreting data, drawing a conclusion, designing an experiment), formulated a clear definition of the elements of science inquiry skills, and established the objectives of evaluation. The content areas are divided into three categories, material and energy, life and environment, and the earth and circulation. Each category contains 10 items. So the instrument consists of 30 items. The content validity of items, objectivity of the scoring keys, and clarity of the items has been checked twice by specialists in science education. At the same time, two field trials were performed to produce the reliability of the instruments, discrimination index, and item difficulty index. The instrument has the content validity is 91.6%, reliability 0.79, objectivity 93.3%, discrimination index 0.30, and item difficulty index 66.1%.

A Dynamic exploration of Constructivism Research based on Citespace Software in the Filed of Education (교육학 분야에서 CiteSpace에 기초한 구성주의 연구 동향 탐색)

  • As an important branch of cognitive psychology, "constructivism" is called a "revolution" in contemporary educational psychology, which has a profound influence on the field of pedagogy and psychology. Based on "WOS" database, this study selects "WOS Core database" and "KCI database", uses CiteSpace visualization software as analysis tool, and makes knowledge map analysis on the research literature of "constructivism" in the field of education in recent 35 years. Analysis directions include annual analysis, network connection analysis by country(region) branch, author, institution or University, and keyword analysis. The purpose of the analysis is to grasp the subject areas, research hotspots and future trends of the research on constructivism, and to provide theoretical reference for the research on constructivism. There are three conclusions from the study. 1. Studies on the subject of constructivism have continued from the 1980s to the present. It is now in a period of steady development. 2. Countries concerned with the subject of constructivism mainly include the United States, Canada, Britain, Australia and the Netherlands. The main research institutions and authors are mainly located in these countries. 3. Currently, the keywords constructivism research focus on the clusters of "instructional strategies", and the development of science and technology is affecting individual learning. In the future, instructional strategies will become the focus of structural constructivism research. With the development of instructional technology, it is necessary to conduct research related to the development of new teaching models.

The perceptions on the professionalism of teaching profession and science teaching of pre-service and inservice elementary teachers (초등 예비교사와 교사의 교직 전문성과 과학교수 전문성에 대한 인식)

  • This study investigated the preservice and inservice elementary teachers' perceptions on professionalism of teaching profession, professionalism of science teaching, and their self-efficacy on science teaching. For this study, 64 sophomore, 53 senior preservice teachers and 23 elementary teachers who were also graduate students were participated. The questionnaires consisted of 5 Likert scaled and descriptive items about the professionalism of teaching profession, professionalism of science teaching, and self-efficacy on science teaching. The results showed that some areas of the professionalism of teaching profession had significant differences between the grades in preservice teachers and/or inservice teachers. Most preservice teachers and teachers thought that they need to have professional ability, but not a few teachers thought it was not necessary to have professionalism of science teaching as a elementary teacher, even though their major was science education. The teachers who had higher perceptions on the needs of the professionalism of science teaching showed high self-efficacy on science teaching.
