  • 방송에서의 광고의 비중이 높아짐에 따라 광고 수익을 극대화하기 위한 기술의 발전이 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 최근의 이러한 광고 관련 기술들을 일반적으로 Advanced Advertising 이라고 하며 그 중 시청자의 선호에 맞는 광고만을 시청자에게 제공하는 타깃광고(Targeted Advertising) 방식 등 수신기별로 특화된 광고를 제공하는 기술을 클라이언트 기반 광고 삽입 방식이라고 한다. 북미의 인터랙티브 케이블방송 규격인 OCAP(OpenCable Application Platform)은 OCAP DPI(Digital Program Insertion) 라는 명칭의 클라이언트 기반 광고 삽입 방식에 대한 북미 일부 지역에서의 시험 방송의 성공한 후 관련 규격을 OCAP1.1-I01 에 발표하기에 이르렀다. 조만간 상용화되면 OCAP DPI 를 통해 북미 케이블방송 사업자들의 광고 수익 향상에 기여할 것은 물론이고 시청자들의 만족도를 향상시킬 것이다. 이런 움직임은 케이블 진영뿐만 아니라 Open IPTV Forum, ATSC 등 IPTV 나 지상파 TV 진영에서도 이 기술에 대한 타당성 검증 및 표준화가 논의가 활발히 진행되고 있는 실정이다. 본 논문은 클라이언트 기반 광고 삽입 기술에 대해 OCAP DPI 를 구현한 경험을 바탕으로 그 원리 및 동작을 설명하고, DVR(Digital Video Recorder) 또는 PVR(Personal Video Recorder)의 주요 기능인 스토리지에 방송스트림을 저장하고 재생하는 기능을 이용하는 광고 삽입 방법에 대해 제안하며, Cable-IPTV Hybrid 의 웹 접근성을 이용하여 웹 서버에 저장되어 관리 및 운용되는 광고컨텐츠의 스트리밍을 통한 광고 삽입 방법에 대한 제안하고, 마지막으로 실제 이러한 광고 삽입 기술을 적용하는 데에 있어 발생되는 문제점들을 언급하고 그 해결에 대한 의견을 제시한다.

Small-sized Planar Spiral Monopole Antennas by Using Parasitic Elements (기생소자에 의한 소형 평면 맴돌이형 모노폴 안테나)

  • In this paper, a small-sized planar square-spiral monopole antenna is proposed by using parasitic elements. The Parasitic element is composed of a crossed strip and additional right-angle folded(L-type) stirps. And these parasitic elements are printed on a substrate which is the opposite side of a radiation element . When the parasitic elements are used, the size of the square-spiral monopole antenna is reduced by $32\%$ for the same operating frequency compared to the antenna without parasitic elements. The radiation pattern of the proposed antenna is nearly omni-directional in azimuth. The designed antenna can be used in the application of channel 12 digital mulimedia broadcasting(DMB) handset.

A Study of Spreading code for Watermarking of TxID of ATSC-DTV (ATSC-DTV의 송신기 식별을 위한 워터마킹용 확산코드에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, we proposed a TxID(Transmitter Identification) system using ZCD (Zero Correlation Duration) code as interference-cancelled spread codes for single frequency network of ATSC terrestrial DTV broadcasting. ZCD codes are simply implemented and have ZCD characteristics. Then, Proposal system can fundamentally solve interference problems caused by ICI(Inter Code Interference) and MPI(Multi-Path Interference) which happens in TxID system using spread coding method. Also, those can cancel truncated error which happens at watermarking for TxID since those can remove its period. In this paper, we identified the availability of TxID system applying interference-cancelled ZCD codes by analyzing DER (Detection Error Rate) which is simulated in various interference environments such as AWGN, ICI, and MPI.

  • Terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (TDMB) is a method of bringing multimedia images, radio, internet, and television to portable devices through terrestrial digital radio transmissions. TDMB related educations being carried out in colleges are focusing on developing firmware which enables users to choose a wanted service. TDMB transmission frame is made up of synchronization channel (SC), fast information channel (FIC), and main service channel (MSC). Services such as video, audio and date are transmitted in the form of subchannel in the MSC. FIC carries information related to each services and subchannels. This paper presents a TDMB frame analysis simulator for analyzing and displaying FIC data on PC. TDMB frame analysis simulator contains functions such as controlling TDMB receiver through USB, establishing the frequency, bringing FIC to PC, displaying ensemble ID and levels, and displaying informations related to services and subchannels. In addition to that, this simulator has a function of being able to store FIC date and subchannel data. This simulator being developed with C++ is expected to be used to view those data visually so that it helps students to understand the TDMB system better and bring about the educational motivation.

  • By recent development of wired and wireless communication technology, any service can be delivered through broadcasting networks or communication networks. So contents consumers want to receive broadcasting program via any accessible network. Network independent broadcasting system can receive optimized multimedia contents by combining the high-quality multimedia contents transmitted through broadcasting network and the additional contents delivered through communication network. Additional contents can be other multimedia contents, URL of contents, some texts for indicating information of received multimedia, etc. Network independent broadcasting system is in early stage of development, and receivers and the monitoring system for hybrid broadcast are under development. Thus the multiplexing method and demultiplexing method to perform hybrid broadcasting is on study. In this paper, we designed the demultiplexing algorithm to perform hybrid broadcasting system and implemented demultiplexer system based on modulator interface system standard T2-MI of DVB-T2.

  • IPTV current service change from a TV IPTV service providing digital broadcast, one- way VOD service, terrestrial broadcast to a web IPTV service,which is using wireless networks which is also used by interactive digital broadcasting However, IPTV, is being currently serviced, causes a lot of interaction with viewers because of inconvenience of using and has problems that users do not have enough content type to access. Additionally, there is also a problem that adding contents cover a large part of screen. To solve these problems, the thing that adding QR code to IPTV screen being recognized by Smartphone. In this way, we can provide the idea how to access to interaction information and also provide to clients an easy way creating and accessing to the contents by developing an editor that can insert QR code to video.

  • It has been 3 years since the TV broadcasting industry migrated to the UHDTV broadcasting service. Theoretically UHDTV picture quality is four times better than HDTV. UHDTV broadcast has been put to practical use by domestic broadcasters, excluding public broadcasters. The resolution of UHDTV does not correspond to the standard UHDTV values, the viewer have no choice but to watch existing contents on UHDTV. Therefore this paper analyses the current broadcast technology level for the image quality improvement, and to investigate the bandwidth of UHD broadcasts. In this paper we have studied current condition of HDMI interface technology and suggesting Super MHL interface technology capable of performing a successful establishment of the new broadcasting platform in future 8K UHD broadcasts alternatively. In order to improve the UHD broadcasting, we are expecting the development change of UHD broadcasting service user experience.

  • As broadcasting contents are recognized as a key competition means, there are issues raised such as improvement of terrestrial retransmission system, introduction of PAR in broadcasting market and so forth. Especially, in pay broadcasting market, strategic partership between SP and PP leads to contents exclusivity for competitors, which causes to hinder normal competition and limit viewers' right of access. Consequently, not only is it claimed that essential facilities doctrine should be adopted in broadcasting market, but also clause of content equal access in IP TV law and adoption of prohibited acts regulation can be viewed in the same context. However, adoption of essential facilities doctrine in broadcasting market is likely to be counterproductive because of the differences of philosophies, economies and legal systems on which general facilities and contents are based. Therefore, it is time for a essential facilities concept, a fundamental concept of a refusal to dealing of essential facilities, and basic works to review specific cases and precedents implemented in competition laws market This study aims to review and propose beforehand if adoption of essential facilities doctrine is appropriate for broadcasting contents.

Control Method of BIFS Contents for Mobile Devices with Restricted Input Key (제한적 키 입력을 갖는 휴대 단말에서의 BIFS 콘텐츠 제어방법)

  • T-DMB is using MPEG-4 BIFS standard format for broadcasting interactive data service. BIFS enables us to represent contents as a scene which consists of various objects such as AV, image, graphic, and text. It also enables us to control objects by using user interaction. BIFS was designed to be adapted to multimedia systems with various input devices. Today, however, we are in lack of considering about mobile device with restricted input unit. The problem is that a consistent user control of interactive data contents is not possible due to the limitations of input units in T-DMB terminals. To solve the problem, we defined KeyNavigator node that provides a means to select or navigate objects (like menu) in BIFS contents by arrow keys and enter key of mobile terminal. By using KeyNavigater node, not only BIFS contents providers can make BIFS contents as they want, but also users can get a way to control BIFS contents consistently and easily.

The Analysis of TxID Signal's Effect to Legacy Receivers in ATSC DTV System (ATSC DTV 시스템에서 TxID 신호가 기존 수신기에 미치는 영향 분석)

  • When we implement the single frequency network (SFN) in ATSC terrestrial DTV system, there is an interference problem to DTV receivers due to the use of same frequency channel among transmitters and repeaters. To resolve this problem, it is recommended to adopt the transmitter identification signals in transmitting equipments. In this paper, we analyzed the influence suffered by legacy DTV receivers when the TxID signal is added to the DTV transmitting signals and the results were further verified by computer simulation, laboratory test and field test. The above tests show that if the TxID signal is added to the level of -30dB compared to the original DTV signal, the TOV(Threshold Of Visibility) increment in legacy receivers is about 0.17 dB. It means that we can insert and transmit the TxID signal in ATSC terrestrial DTV system without making the negative effect to the legacy DTV receivers.
