  • This research aims to figure out the impact of different reflective thinking methods on pre-service geography teachers' teaching knowledge. Four pre-service teachers in the same level were selected through the first simulated instruction, Then, different reflective methods were given them to carry out the reflection. Afterwards, they carried out their second simulated instruction. The change of average score of pre-service teachers was analyzed through the peer reviews and Paired samples T-test. The results are as follows. First, when the first peer review score were compared with second peer review, average score of all pre-service teachers improved. But, pre-service teachers who got cooperative reflection with a specialist had the widest variation in the increase level of average score comparing to those without reflection or reflective journal writing. Second, reflective journal writing through self-reflection led to their reflective thinking, but it did not induce them to reflective practice. Finally, pre-service teacher who got cooperative reflection with experienced teachers got the significant improvement in PCK through the T-test. In particular, it had significant statistical value in instruction section and understanding of students section. It demonstrates that the contextual section could be improved by self-reflection or repetitive class practices, while instruction section and understanding of students section needed consulting by assistants.

  • This study is intended to draw a scale for problem behaviors of young children. To achieve this, an empirical survey was carried out on experts from three groups of daycare center teachers, kindergarten teachers and early childhood education-majored professors. A total of 209 items were measured by the scale for young children's problem behaviors from the 1970s to now. The results showed that 96 of a total 209 items in 5 categories related to the scale for young children's problem behaviors were adopted as major items. Using these 96 major items in 5 categories, 17 out of 40 items in a peer relationship category, 13 out of 41 items in a development category, 20 out of 50 items in a fundamental habit category, 22 out of 38 items in a morality category, and 24 out of 40 items in an emotion category were adopted. Most items were adopted in the emotion category, whereas most items were rejected in the development category. Therefore, it is judged that their problem behaviors are caused mainly by anxiety, shrinking, unexpected behaviors, dependence on parents or teachers, and slow behaviors due to the latent negative emotions of young children at the developing stage.

  • This study seeks to identify the duties and tasks of a social welfare worker when developing a combined death education program for welfare workers using DACUM method. The program would adopt both a medical and humanistic perspective that can be applied to real life. The study period was between March 2 to March 10, 2015. The study was conducted on eight DACUM committee members who are professors in the field of healthcare or humanities and social sciences. Their medical, humanistic and social viewpoints were investigated. The results show that the focus of the education needs to be on 'the acceptance and understanding of death' and 'healing the stress from loss and suicide prevention'as tasks under the duty of 'loss and mourning'. The tasks for the duty 'the need for death education'were identified as 'death in traditional society and death in contemporary society' as well as 'understanding of issues related to death'. The results show that there is a need to develop death education programs that emphasize healing for the acceptance and understanding of death from a humanistic perspective.

  • In distance education, contents are to convey what to learn to learners, and the efficient quality assurance of contents is the very first step to the enhancement of distance education. Most studies of the quality assurance of contents have mostly centered around the development of evaluation tools, and few studies have ever focused on analysis of the quality of contents itself, since it's not easy to do that due to difficulties in the selection of evaluatees or of contents to be analyzed. The purpose of this study was to analyze the quality of 58 distance education contents of on-the-job training and another training for the acquisition of qualifications. As a result, the contents of the learning contents segment ranked first. Among the components of each segment, there was room for improvement in the level of learning and learning elements in the learning contents segment. In terms of instructional design, the quality of interaction components should be taken to another level to boost the quality of contents in this segment. The findings of the study are expected to give some suggestions about which parts of contents should be improved in quality from a perspective of contents developers or suppliers to enhance the overall quality of contents.

  • The understanding of mathematical concepts should be backed up on a constant basis in oder to grow problem-solving skills which is one of the ultimate goals of math education. The purpose of the study was to provide readers with the information which could be considered valuably for the math educators trying both to prevent mathematical misconceptions and to develop curricular program by estimating the actual conditions and developing backgrounds of the mathematical misconceptions held by the gifted education learners. Accordingly, this study, as the first step, theoretically examined the meaning and the developing background of mathematical misconception. As the second step, this study examined the actual conditions of mathematical misconceptions held by the participant students who were enrolled in the CTY(Center for Talented Youth) program run by a university. The results showed that the percentage of the correct statements made by participant students is only 35%. The results also showed that most of the participant students belonged either to the level 2 requiring students to distinguish examples from non-examples of the mathematical concepts or the level 3 requiring students to recognize and describe the common nature of the mathematical concepts with their own expressions based on the four-level of concept formulation. The causes could be traced to the presentation of limited example, wrong preconcept, the imbalance of conceptual definition and conceptual image. Based on the estimation, this study summarized a general plan preventing the mathematical misconceptions in a math classroom.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate high school students in natural science track and engineering major university students' perceptions about the writing and composition education. A total of 318 high school students in natural science track from two high schools in a metropolitan area and 447 university students majoring in engineering from three universities participated in the survey and asked to response their perceived status and needs of writing education for science-engineering track. The survey instrument, developed by Lee et al.(2009), was used for this study. The data was analyzed through the SPSS 18.0 program for Windows for Multiple Response Frequency Analysis, Descriptive Statistics, Independent Samples t-test, and One-way Analysis of Variance. The results indicated that high school students relatively perceived that writing education was less necessary compared to university students. In addition, high school students found writing less difficult than university students do. In related to studying their experience with writing and composition education, almost no high school students have taken writing classes and university students have taken an average of one class. Most university students who took writing classes took basic writing classes that were not programmed for students in Science and Engineering. In the basic survey to revitalize writing and composition education for Science and Engineering students in different majors, the level of writing and composition education required by students in each major was different. Writing was considered most necessary for students majoring in Chemical Engineering, followed by students majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Electronic Engineering. The study of writing and composition education for high school and college should extend to studies on teachers or professors who teach writing, studies on contents and methods of writing education, and studies on the development of writing programs for different majors in university.

  • The primary purpose of this study was to gather knowledge about $5^{th},\;6^{th},\;and\;7^{th}$ graders' proportional reasoning ability by investigating their reactions and use of strategies when encounting proportional or nonproportional problems, and then to raise issues concerning instructional methods related to proportion. A descriptive study through pencil-and-paper tests was conducted. The tests consisted of 12 questions, which included 8 proportional questions and 4 nonproportional questions. The following conclusions were drawn from the results obtained in this study. First, for a deeper understanding of the ratio, textbooks should treat numerical comparison problems and qualitative prediction and comparison problems together with missing-value problems. Second, when solving missing-value problems, students correctly answered direct-proportion questions but failed to correctly answer inverse-proportion questions. This result highlights the need for a more intensive curriculum to handle inverse-proportion. In particular, students need to experience inverse-relationships more often. Third, qualitative reasoning tends to be a more general norm than quantitative reasoning. Moreover, the former could be the cornerstone of proportional reasoning, and for this reason, qualitative reasoning should be emphasized before proportional reasoning. Forth, when dealing with nonproportional problems about 34% of students made proportional errors because they focused on numerical structure instead of comprehending the overall relationship. In order to overcome such errors, qualitative reasoning should be emphasized. Before solving proportional problems, students must be enriched by experiences that include dealing with direct and inverse proportion problems as well as nonproportional situational problems. This will result in the ability to accurately recognize a proportional situation.

  • The study aims to assess needs of administrative and financial support for effective performance of teacher professionalism of gifted. For this end, practicing teachers of gifted education were nationwide selected for survey questionnaires. The first survey of five-scale Likert item was conducted in July 2005 with 236 teachers and the second survey of open-ended item was done in November 2005 with 123 teachers. All the respondents provided their perceptions to current status of administrative and financial support for gifted education and needs for their effective performance of professionalism. Suggestions for improving conditions of administration and finance in terms of effective performance of teacher professionalism in gifted education were as follows: First, teachers should be assigned as full-time for gifted education. Otherwise, their teaching hours and other related jobs should be, reduced Second, the financial support for gifted education should be increased, in particular, more in provincial areas than metropolitan cities. Third, appropriate grouping and counseling according to diverse differences of students should be done. Fourth, understanding of principals and teachers in general education as well as parents and general public toward gifted education should be improved through inservice education program and other education programs. Further, teachers of gifted education should be provided with more frequent opportunities for participating inservice programs in quality, share knowledge and experiences among teachers through network systems, and be given appropriate incentives for better performance of professionalism.
