지구의 자전 에너지와 공전에 대한 새로운 시각(視覺)

  • 본 연구자는 우주의 자연원리 가운데서 지구의 자전은 어떠한 힘에 의하여 자전을 하게 되는지? 지구공전은 기존에 알고 있는 태양을 중심으로 공전을 하고 있다는 개념은 공전하는 이치에 맞지 않는 점을 발견하고 새로운 공전원리를 제시하고자 한다. 우주 공간의 여러 현상들 중에서 지구의 자전과 공전운동에 관해 살펴보면 그 요인으로는 운동을 할 수 있는 지구, 지구를 둘러싸고 있는 대기, 지구를 비쳐주는 태양광선이 있다. 이 세 가지 자연현상이 지구 운동의 핵심요소라는 것을 알았다. 태양광선은 지구에 열을 가해주는 역할을 하고 대기는 이 열을 받아서 변화를 일어나게 하여 운동을 한다고 생각한다. 본 연구자의 소견으로 내린 결론의 기저는 ‘대기가 태양열에 의한 팽창과 수축이 대기의 상승기류와 하강기류로 변하여 이 기류의 이동에 따른 마찰력과 압력의 차이가 생겨서 지구가 자전하면서 공전한다고 생각한다.’ 따라서 지구공전운동은 태양을 중심으로 하지 않는다는 점과 지구는 원근법칙(遠近法則)에 의하여 공전을 한다는 점으로 설명할 수 있다.

Effects of Exercise Training and Selenium on MCT1 and MCT4 Protein Levels in Skeletal Muscles of Diabetic Goto-Kakizaki Rats (지구성 운동과 셀레니움 투여가 당뇨 Goto-kakizaki 쥐의 골격근의 MCT1과 MCT4단백질 발현수준에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the possible additive effects of endurance exercise training (EXER) and selenium (SELE) on the improvements of glucose and lactate transport capacities in diabetic Goto-kakizaki rats. Animals either remained sedentary control (SED) or performed EXER or received SELE [$5{\mu}mol$ kg body wt (-1) day (-1)], or underwent both EXER and SELE (COMBI), which lasted for 6 wk. Compared with sedentary control, EXER alone or the SELE alone group, or the combined treatment group had significant reduction in glucose response measured at 90 min and 120 min during an intraperitoneal glucose tolerance test (IPGTT) and body weight after 6week treatment. EXER alone, or combined group individually had significantly higher glycogen contents in liver compared with SED or SELE groups. EXER alone increased glycogen content in soleus and plantaris compared with SED, and this parameter was increased to greatest extent in the combined treatment groups compared with SED or SELE groups. EXER alone, SELE alone or COMBI, caused significant decreases in the plasma lactates, serum glucose, insulin, total cholesterol and HOMA-IR along with a significant increase in high-density lipoprotein cholesterol compared with SED. In addition, EXER or COMBI individually had significantly lower serum triacylglycerol compared with SED or SELE. With respect to protein expression related to glucose and lactate transport capacities, EXER alone, SELE alone, or COMBI increased in MCT1 and MCT4 protein level in soleus and plantaris. Furthermore, EXER alone, SELE alone or COMBI caused significant increases in mt MCT1 protein level in soleus and plantaris. The findings of the current study suggest that endurance exercise training and selenium treatment may provide therapeutic values to type II diabetic patients with peripheral insulin resistance and hyperlactatecemia by improving glucose and lactate transport capacities, leading to improvements in plasma lactate, serum glucose, insulin and lipid profiles (TC, TG, HDL).

The effects of long term endurance or resistance exercise training on anabolic and catabolic pathway in skeletal muscle of middle-aged rats (장기간의 지구성 운동 또는 저항성 운동이 중년 흰쥐의 골격근 내 단백질 동화 및 이화기전에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of long-term endurance exercise or resistance exercise training on muscle anabolic/catabolic pathway. 50wks-old male Wistar rats(n=30) were randomly assigned for 3 groups (sedentary, endurance exercise, resistance exercise group). After 12-week of training, plantaris muscles were dissect to measure protein level. Akt/mTOR signal-related proteins were significantly increased only after resistance exercise training, but catabolic signal-related proteins, FoxO1 and MuRF1, were significantly decreased after resistance and endurance exercise training. After endurance exercise training, AMPK and PGC-1α protein levels were significantly increased. Therefore, the endurance exercise training has been shown to affect the protein balance of aging muscle through inhibition of muscle protein catabolism. The present results suggest the possibility that not only resistance exercise but also endurance exercise will be affectable to keep or increase muscle volume and capacity of middle-aged people.

A Case Study of Elementary Students' Developmental Pathway of Spatial Reasoning on Earth Revolution and Apparent Motion of Constellations (지구의 공전과 별자리의 겉보기 운동에 대한 초등학생들의 공간적 추론 발달 경로의 사례 연구)

  • This study investigated elementary students' understanding of Earth revolution and its accompanied apparent motion of constellation in terms of spatial reasoning. We designed a set of multi-tiered constructed response items in which students described their own idea about the reason of consecutive movement of constellations for three months and drew a diagram about relative locations of the Sun, the Earth, and the constellations. Sixty-five sixth grade students from four elementary schools participated in the tests both before and after science classes on the relative movement of Earth and Moon. Their answers to the items were categorized inductively in terms of transforming frames of reference which are observed on the Earth and designed from the Space-based perspective. We analyzed those categories by the levels of spatial reasoning and depicted the change of students' levels between pre/post-tests so that we could get an idea on the preliminary developmental pathway of students' understanding of this topic. The lower anchor description was that constellations move around the Earth with geocentric perspective. Intermediate level descriptions were planar understanding of Earth movement, intuitive idea on constellation movement along with the Earth. Students with intermediate levels did not reach understanding of the apparent motion of constellations. As the upper anchor description students understood the apparent motion of constellations according to the Earth revolution and could transform their frames of reference between Earth-based view and Space-based view. The features as the case of evolutionary learning progressions and critical points of students' development for this topic were discussed.

Periodicities of Rainfall Variation and Forcing Factors Cause Severe Droughts (가뭄을 유발하는 강수량 변동의 주기성과 유발요소)

  • 한반도 중부지방은 2014년과 2015년에 연이은 강수량 부족으로 많은 지역에서 가뭄 현상이 나타났다. 특히, 한반도는 여름철에 강수가 집중되는 몬순기후대에 속하기 때문에 여름철 강수량은 생활용수나 농업용수 확보 등 이수 측면에서 매우 중요하다 할 수 있다. 이러한, 한반도(남한)의 중부지역 가뭄을 유발하는 강수량의 부족 현상은 대략 5-10년(평균 7-8년) 주기로 반복된다. 그리고 이러한 10여년 주기 변동성과 더불어 예외적인 경우가 발생하고 매번 그 심도도 변화한다. 이러한 주기성을 우연이라 보기는 어려울 것이나 예외적인 경우나 심도를 가늠할 수 없다는 점(인과관계가 불분명하다는 점)에서 확정론적 현상이라 단정하기도 어려운 현실이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이러한 주기적 가뭄을 야기하는 강수량 변동의 원인을 지구물리학적 측면에서 추론해 보고자 한다. 가뭄은 인위적인 조건에 의해서도 발생하고 인과관계에 따른 정의도 다양하지만, 본 연구에서는 자연 상태에서 강수량의 부족에 의한 가뭄 조건만을 고려하였다. 강수과정은 지구의 물순환 운동에 의해 야기되고 지구의 물순환 운동은 지구의 역학적 운동 및 상호작용 관계에 의해 발생한다고 알려져 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는, 지구물리 과정의 일부로 강수과정을 유발하는 지표인자로 SST와 같은 기후 인자에 대해 변동 주기의 상관성을 범지구적인 시공간 규모에서 검토하였다.

Middle School and Science-gifted Students' Conceptions about Motion of Objects on the Surface of the Earth and the Moon (지구와 달 표면에서 물체의 운동에 대한 일반 중학생들과 과학영재학생들의 개념)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate middle school and science-gifted students' conceptions about motion of objects on the surface of the earth and the moon. The subjects were 61 first-, 51 second-, 51 third-year students, for a total of 163 in a middle school and 32 science-gifted students from a university-affiliated sciencegifted education center for secondary school students. The research contents were conceptions about motion of objects by the vertical direction, an inclined plane and horizontal plane on the surface of the earth and the moon. The questions were as follows: If two balls, same size but different mass, were put on, thrown over, by the vertical direction, an inclined plane and a horizontal plane on the surface of the earth and the moon at the same time and speed, which one would arrive faster than the other?; In the same mass in the earth and the moon, how fast could the object reach to which location, the earth or the moon? The results showed that science-gifted students offer meaningful difference on the concept of objects in motion at the vertical direction, an inclined plane and a horizontal plane on the earth and at the vertical direction on the moon than general middle school students. There were meaningful difference on the vertical up direction, an inclined plane and a horizontal plane in the same situation in the earth and the moon. Finally, based on the results of our study, we discuss possible educational implications for teaching the concept of objects in motion.

A Least Square Fit Analysis on the Earth's Polar Motion Time Series: Implication against Smylie's Conjecture (지구의 극운동에 대한 최소제곱법 분석: 스마일리의 추측에 상반됨)

  • From the Earth's polar motion time series (IERS 08 C04, since 1981), after removal of seasonal variation by band-pass filtering, we acquired Earth's free Eulerian motion (Chandler wobble) time series. By successive least square error fittings on it, we analyzed amplitude and phase variation of Chandler wobble. We attempted to identify any precursory behavior of the pole before large earthquakes but only to fail. Unlike Smylie's conjecture there was no appreciable motion of the Earth's pole detected at around the each times of recent six largest earthquakes of magnitude over 8.5.

The effect of different dietary on expression of AMPK and MAPK in rat muscle after a bout endurance exercise (서로 다른 식이 섭취와 일회 지구성 운동 후 쥐 골격근 내 AMPK와 MAPK 발현)

  • 요약은 이 연구는 다양한 식이 섭취와 일회 지구성 운동으로 야기되는 근육(백색 비복근) 내 AMP-activated protein kinase(AMPK), Extracellular signal-regulated kinase(ERK 1/2)와 p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)의 신호전달체계를 구명해 보고자 실시되었다. 실험에 사용된 쥐(Sprague-Dawley)는 총 160마리로 크게 일반 탄수화물 식이(CHO; 40마리), 포화지방 식이(SAFA; 40마리), 단일불포화 식이(MUFA; 40마리)와 다불포화 식이(PUFA; 40마리)로 나누어 연구를 진행하였다. 운동 프로그램은 일회 지구성 운동으로 30분 운동 후 5분 휴식의 사이클을 지속적으로 6번 반복하여 총 3시간의 지구성 수영 운동을 실시하였고, 분석을 위한 조직 샘플링은 운동 전, 운동 후 0시간, 1시간, 4시간, 24시간에 걸쳐서 이루어졌다. 연구의 결과는 서로 다른 식이 섭취와 운동에 따른 AMPK의 신호전달 단백질의 발현은 유의한 치이가 나타나지 않았다. 그러나 서로 다른 식이를 섭취한 쥐의 근육에서 ERK 1/2(p<.01)와 p38 MAPK(p<.001)의 신호전달 단백질의 발현은 유의한 차이를 보였다(p<.05). 흥미로운 결과는 운동에 대한 유의한 차이는 AMPK, ERK1/2와 p38 MAPK 모두 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다는 것이다. 결론적으로 일회 지구성 운동보다 서로 다른 식이의 섭취가 근육 내(백색 비복근)의 대사적 변화를 일으키는데 주도적인 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 시사할 수 있다.

Learning Effects and Difficulties of Role Play Activities to Learn Earth Rotation and Sun's Apparent Motion (지구 자전과 태양의 겉보기 운동 학습을 위한 역할놀이 활동의 학습 효과 및 학생들이 겪는 어려움)

  • In this study, to find out the learning effects and difficulties of role play activities to learn the earth's rotation and the sun's apparent motion, the degree of concept understanding through role play activities, difficulties arising from activities collected by interview, and eye movement during activities are analyzed. 22 fifth graders participated in this study and collected and analyzed experimental behaviors, post-interviews, and eye movement data during the role play of the students. The study found that students could explain the rotation and direction of the Earth through role play activities, but it was difficult to explain the apparent motion of the sun. Since it is difficult to perceive the sun's apparent motion through role play activities, the learning effect of the earth rotation role play activity is low.

An Inquiry Activity in the Subject Matter of Earth Science: Apparent Rotation of Lunar Configuration (지구과학 교과 영역 탐구 활동 소재로서의 월면 회전)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between lunar and earth rotation, by quantitatively describing the rotation of lunar configuration which is observed during the lunar diurnal motion. Our research suggests that observation of the lunar diurnal motion could be used as a study topic in the earth science courses. The rotation of the lunar configuration is an apparent phenomenon that can be seen when an observer. standing on the ground. looks at the moon as if the lunar dark configuration rotates on the basis of horizontal line. In spite its competence as a study topic because it is observable by naked eyes, there are only few major textbooks that introduce this phenomenon with regard to the earth rotation. Therefore, this study induced the mathematical principle of the lunar rotation in detail and proposed that this could be developed as a scientific inquiry through practical observation. In addition, an analytical proof and qualitative method of explanation of the lunar reverse rotation were also presented.
