A Study on the Middle School Principals' Perception Changes of Secondary Vocational Education Institutions (중학교 교장의 중등단계 직업교육 기관에 대한 인식 변화 연구)

  • This study was conducted to investigate and reveal secondary vocational education institutions' perception changes and suggest the need for supporting the improvement of their perception by analyzing middle school principals' perception changes of the past, the present, and the future about them. For this, middle school principals' perception of the past, the present, and the future about secondary vocational education institutions was investigated and analyzed targeting 214 persons. The results of the study are as follow: First, middle school principals' perception of secondary vocational education institutions has found to make more positive changes in the present than the past and be going to make more positive changes in the future than the present. This can be interpreted that various policies of secondary vocational education institutions have a positive effect on the improvement of their perception since 2005. Second, in the result that analyzed changes in the ranks about middle school principals' perception of the past, the present, and the future about secondary vocational education institutions, the fields of "nurturing students' aptitude and talent early" and "their fast financial independence after graduation" were recognized as positive in the past, the present, and future. As the field of "entering universities in the same field easily" was recognized ranking high in the past and the present, but doing low in the future, it has found that the perception of secondary vocational education institutions is changing according to governmental policies' directions.

조직관리와 직무만족: 한국의 교육기관에 대한 위계적 선형모형(HLM) 분석

  • 본 연구는 조직관리자의 조직 내부 및 외부관리 노력과 관리경력 등 관리자의 개인적 특성이 조직구성원의 직무만족에 미치는 영향에 관한 실증적 분석을 실시한다. 층화군집추출로 표집된 한국의 150개 중학교에 대해 3년간 학교, 교장 및 교사 조사를 통해 얻어진 다중원천 자료에 근거하여 위계적 선형모형(HLM)분석을 실시한 결과, 조직관리자인 교장의 관리경력 등 개인적 특성과 함께 교장의 내부관리 노력과 상부기관 및 학부모 등 주요 이해관계자에 대한 의견수렴 등 외부관리 노력이 모두 교사들의 직무만족에 긍정적 영향을 미치고 있음을 발견하였다. 이러한 결과는 선행연구에서 제시하는 개인 및 조직수준 직무만족 설명변수들인 교사의 인구통계학적 특성, 직무동기, 자기효능감, 학교유형, 조직규모, 소재지역, 학교자원 등을 모두 통제한 상태에서 나타났다는 점에서 최근 공공관리 문헌에서 주목받고 있는 관리가 중요하다(management matters)는 주장의 한국적 맥락에서의 타당성을 지지하고 있다.

Middle school Home Economics teachers' perception and actual performance of self-supervision at school related to Home Economics (중학교 가정과 교사의 교과 관련 교내 자율장학에 대한 인식과 실태)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate what middle school Home Economics(HE) teachers perceive, practice and need for self-supervision at school related to HE. Questionnaires were sent by E-mail and 150 were collected. Descriptive statistics including frequency, percentage, average, standard deviation, t-test and ANOVA analysis were reported using SPSS/win 10.1. The results of this research were as follows: First, middle school HE teachers perceived that self-supervision at school was essential since it promoted self reflection of teachers themselves and improved professional skills. Furthermore, peer-coaching was highly preferred. Second, negative responses to the supervision of principal, vice-principal, and peer teachers overwhelmed positive answers. Information exchange among peer teachers was frequent, yet, approximately 22.6% of middle school HE teachers were still avoiding sharing information process for several reasons. About half of the teachers answered that all teachers needed to participate in this process. Third, they pointed out that self-supervision at school was not implemented well because of the lack of time due to the heavy work load, negative and passive attitude for the improvement of teaching-learning activities, administration-centered supervision that did not reflect teachers' opinion, and shortage of economical, and environmental support.. HE teachers perceived that peer teachers who were doing good practices were most helpful for the supervision. Also, they preferred self-evaluation at the end of the self-supervision at school. Forth, to improve self-supervision at school, there were very high demands for reduction of administrative work, additional time, fundamental philosophy toward HE education. Fifth, the purpose and detailed plans of self-supervision were recognized as the results that were democratically derived by the HE teachers. Sixth, class inspection and informal inspection were operated once in a year, and self-training was rarely operated. Peer coaching and self-coaching were operated occasionally. Self-coaching and peer coaching were reported as the most helpful types of supervision. In addition, HE teachers answered that supervision was helpful to teaching method followed by contents, evaluation, and philosophy of education.

Current status of dietary education in elementary, middle and high school in Gyeonggi province: Comparison according to school level and placement of nutrition teacher (경기도 초·중·고등학교의 식생활 교육 현황 : 학교급 및 영양교사 배치여부에 따른 비교)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the current status of dietary education carried out by dieticians or nutrition teachers at elementary, middle, and high schools in Gyeonggi province. We compared dietary education status not only among school level but also between dieticians and nutrition teachers. Methods: The survey using self-administered questionnaires was conducted by dieticians or nutrition teachers at 91 schools (43 elementary schools, 33 middle schools, and 15 high schools) in Gyeonggi province in December, 2015. The questionnaire consisted of questions regarding general characteristics of respondents, current status of dietary education, opinion about dietary education methods, and cooperation level of persons concerned. Results: The placement rate of nutrition teachers was 50.5% overall. Only 36 out of 91 schools conducted regular dietary education, and the percentage of schools conducting regular dietary education was significantly different according to school level with the lowest percentage in high schools, equivalent to 20% (p = 0.003). The average annual dietary education time was 12.4 hours, and it was very low in high schools (5.1 hours) and in schools without a nutrition teacher (1.6 hours). The levels of cooperation and support from principals, teachers, parents, and students were significantly lower in high schools than elementary and middle schools (all p < 0.001) and in schools without a nutrition teacher than schools with a nutrition teacher (all p < 0.05). Conclusion: The results show that the level of dietary education is not enough and needs to be improved, especially at middle and high schools and at schools without a nutrition teacher. Government support polices need to be implemented to encourage dietary educational activities.

Analysis of the Effects of In-service Education Program on Rural Amenity (농촌어메니티 교원 연수 프로그램 효과 분석)

  • 본 연구에서는 초 중등 교원들의 농업 농촌에 대한 가치 인식 및 학교 현장에서의 학생 지도력을 높이기 위해 교원들에게 농촌어메니티에 대한 이론과 체험 학습을 제공하는 '농촌어메니티 체험 연수 프로그램'의 개발 적용하고, 프로그램의 효과를 분석하였다. '농촌어메니티 개념 및 정책 이해', '농촌어메니티 현장 이해 및 체험', '농촌어메니티 수업 적용'의 3개 영역으로 구성된 총 20시간의 교원연수 프로그램을 개발하였으며, '09. 7. 23. ~ 8. 13.까지 2박 3일씩 5차에 걸쳐 200명의 교사를 대상으로 연수 프로그램을 운영하고, 연수 전후 설문조사를 실시하여 그 결과를 분석하였다. 연수에 참여한 교원들의 인구통계학적 특성을 분석한 결과, 여성의 비율이 56.9%로 남성(43.1%)에 비해 높았으며, 일반교사의 비율(53.3%)이 부장교사(26.9%)나 교장 교감 (19.8%)의 비율에 비해 높았다. 연령 분포에서는 50대가 35.2%로 가장 많고, 40대가 32.7%를 차지하고 있었으며, 경력이 20년 이상인 교원들이 67.2%인 것으로 나타났다. 근무기관 분포에서는 초등학교 교원들이 54.8%로 가장 많았으며, 중학교, 고등학교 교원이 각각 20.3%, 18.8%인 것으로 나타났다. 근무지역 분포에서는 중소도시에서 근무하는 교원들이 70.6%로 대다수를 차지하고 있었으며, 농촌거주 경험이 있는 교원들이 64.8%인 것으로 분석되었다. 연수 참여 사전-사후 설문조사를 통한 인식 변화를 분석(Paired samples t-test)한 결과 참여 이후 '농업 농촌에 대한 관심 정도', '농업의 중요도에 대한 인식', '농촌의 생활 정주, 관광 휴양 여건에 대한 인식', '농촌어메니티에 대한 이해도'가 모두 개선된 것으로 나타났다. '농촌어메니티에 대한 중요도 인식'(5점 척도)에서는 환경자원, 자연자원, 역사자원, 경관자원, 시설자원, 경제활동자원, 공동체활동자원으로 분류된 37개의 세부자원들에 대한 중요도 인식이 연수 참여 이후 높아진 것으로 나타났다. 단, 환경자원 가운데 '수질'의 평균 점수는 사전 4.8671, 사후 4.8960로 유의미한 차이가 발견되지 않았다. 연수 전반에 대해 만족하는 교원의 비율이 98.5%로 나타났으며, 연수 이후 농업 농촌에 대한 이해도가 증가했다는 응답이 98.0%, 학생 지도력이 증가했다는 응답이 95.0%, 연수에서 학습한 내용을 학생지도시 활용하겠다는 응답이 97.5%로 집계되어, 개발된 연수 프로그램이 설계시 수립한 목적 달성에 기여하고 있는 것으로 분석되었다.

TEACHERS' PERCEPTIONS OF MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS IN STUDENTS AND PSYCHIATRIC CONSULTATIONS (학생들의 정신건강문제와 정신과 의뢰에 대한 교사의 인식도 조사)

  • This study is attempted to examine Korean teachers’ perceptions of mental health problems in students and their attitudes towards psychiatric consultations through a questionnaire survey. The results of this study are as follows. 1) Teachers thought that 5.3% of their students had mental health problems, 1.9% of students required psychiatric evaluation, and 1.2% of students were referred or recommended psychiatric evaluation by their teachers. 2) The most frequent mental health problems in students discovered by teachers were distractibility and inattention, lack of academic skills, and language difficulties in elementary schools;distractibility and inattention, conduct problems, and lack of academic skills in middle schools;and conduct problems, distractibility and inattention, physical symptoms, and substance abuse in high schools. 3) Teachers thought the mental health problems in students were caused by the family environment, psychological factors, the educational system, and a lack of mental health services. 4) Teachers desired smaller classes, improvement of the school environment, more time, regular mental health education, a special program for students with mental health problems, and the counseling staffs or consultants for the school mental health. 5) Teachers consulted with other teachers, the parents of the students, the counseling teachers, the health care teachers, the counseling institutes, the psychiatric clinics, and the principals in descending order to handle the hard case problems. The frequent reasons for failing in psychiatric consultations were the prejudice of parents against psychiatric services, the teachers’ sense of superiority in dealing with the problems of students, the prejudice of teachers themselves against psychiatric practice, and inaccessible professional consultation. 6) About 20.4% of teachers reported they had proposed psychiatric consultations or had recommended their students to receive psychiatric evaluations.
