  • This study examines the effect of consumption level on the life satisfaction of baby-boom generation and further examines the mediating effect of subjective expectation(standard of living and government policy). This research uses the panel survey to explore ageing society in 2012 made by Korean Labor Institute, which studied 1,756(born in 1955~1961). SPSS 21.0 Package was applied to analyze the date and multi-regression analysis was conducted. As a result, first, the findings show that as the consumption level increases, the life satisfaction of the baby-boom generation goes up. Second, the findings reveal that subjective expectation partially mediates the influences of consumption level on the life satisfaction of baby-boom generation. This study further discusses the theoretical and political implication of the direction properties on baby-boomer based upon the results of the study.

  • This study identified the relationship between perceived mother-grandmother conflicts and subjective well-being among multicultural children, and examined the double mediating model of acculturative stress and adjustment to school life on that relationship. Participants were 205 male and female adolescents living at J county in Gangwon-do. PROCESS Macro 3.5 Model 6 was used for analysis of a double mediating effect. Results revealed that perceived mother-grandmother conflicts was positively correlated with acculturative stress of multicultural children, and negatively correlated with adjustment to school life and subjective well-being. And, acculturative stress of multicultural children was negatively correlated with adjustment to school life and subjective well-being, whereas adjustment to school life was positively correlated with subjective well-being. This study found that acculturative stress and adjustment to school life were sequentially mediating perceived mother-grandmother conflicts and subjective well-being of multicultural children. These findings suggest that the perceived mother-grandmother conflicts might cause multicultural children to experience acculturative stress, and as a result, their subjective well-being level might be reduced due to their low adjustment to school life.

  • In order to investigate the factors influencing QOL and life satisfaction of the physically disabled, the author interviewed, by using structuralized questionnaire, 440 individuals among the physically disabled who were participated in Health Examination from April to July, 1997. The questionnaire consisted of the general characteristics(sex, age, marital status, family number, etc), the Reintegration to Normal Living Index(RNLI) to assess QOL, and the single item of five-likert scale to evaluate life satifaction. The means of RNLI were $16.2{\pm}4.8$ in total score, $12.2{\pm}3.4$ in daily functioning and $4.0{\pm}2.1$ in perception of self. The respondents were less reintegrated toward social activities and relationships than impairments or disabilities. While the satisfied group was 47.3%, the dissatisfied group was 52.7%. As the results of multiple regression and logistic regression analysis, the significant predictors of QOL were age, education, job, grade of disability and subjective health status. The life satisfaction were related to economic status, job and subjective health status. To improve QOL and life satisfaction of the physically disabled, it is important that we improve their basic socioeconomic status by getting a job through rehabilitation education and induce them to have positive self-assessment by extending the opportunity of social participation.

Psychosocial stress was significantly influenced by socio-demographic characteristics and family life variables, while anxiety and depression symptoms were influenced more so by psychosocial stress. • The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of perceived care-related burden and social support on life satisfaction and the moderating effect of social support from elderly spouses caring for their elderly partners with dementia. The subjects were 165 spouses aged over 60 years, caring for their elderly partners afflicted with dementia, and living in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. The analysis results are as follows: First, the quantified total care-related burden shouldered by the participant spouses was 3.76 points (SD = .57), which was slightly higher than the median value. In the case of social support, informal support was scored 2.65 (SD = .78), and formal support was scored 2.60 (SD = .77), which was lower than the median value. Life satisfaction earned a score of 3.11 points (SD = .78), which somewhat exceeded the median. Second, subjective health status, income level, burden from social activity, and informal support influenced life satisfaction. Put differently, the higher the subjective health status of a caring spouse, the higher the income level, the lower the social activity burden, the stronger the informal support, and the greater the life satisfaction. Third, the interaction terms of social activity burden and informal support were significant. Therefore, informal support had a moderating effect on the relationship between social activity burden and life satisfaction among the elderly with dementia. In other words, even though the caring spouses experienced a burden from social activities, the higher the frequency with which they accessed informal support, the lower the decrease in life satisfaction.

  • This study's goal is to compare influencing factors to life satisfaction and sport participation of the elderly in the rural and urban area. And it is to provide basic information that is appropriate to the local peculiarity. In the research, we used the 2006 KLoSA, got the following result through the more than 60 years old 502 peoples in the rural area and 1129 in the urban area. There were significant differences of factors related to the life satisfaction between rural and urban elderly, and the most sport participants have higher life satisfaction than non-participants. Through the probit analysis, the result shows that significant factors affecting sport participation for the rural elderly are gender, age, working/retired, and for urban elderly, the education level and income are added. About the participation, there were also significant differences on the participation frequency for the rural elderly and on the participation hours for urban elderly. The significant factors of life satisfaction for rural elderly are the education level, subjective health, and sport participation, and for urban elderly were the education level, income, subjective health, and sport participation. Overall, it shows the urban elderly have higher life satisfaction than the rural elderly. The welfare system to improve the sports participation and life satisfaction needs the differentiated support reflecting the social demographic characteristics.

  • This study aims to empirically structure the patterns of consumption and their effects on depression among the employed baby-boomers who were born in 1955 to in 1963. We used the 5th wave of Korea Retirement and Income Study(KReIS) in 2013 (n=2,585). The Latent Profile Analysis(LPA) estimated the empirical patterns of consumption and then a multiple regression analyzed the effect of consumption patterns on depression. The LPA results showed that the consumption patterns consist of four groups: Basic life-oriented class, Social life-oriented class, Home-based lifestyle class, and Advanced consumption-oriented class. The working baby boomers' depression was associated with their consumption patterns. Specifically, the social life-oriented class showed significantly lower depression than the basic life-oriented class and advanced consumption-oriented class. Other associates with higher levels of depression were found as lower education, having no spouse, lower self-rated health, higher levels of physical limitation, having a diagnosed disability, lower satisfaction with leisure activities, lower income, and lower subjective economic status in this study. Based on the results of this study, we propose the need for specialized financial intervention better for baby-boomers' retirement preparation in Korea.
