This study analyzed the factors of the physical and social characteristics, self-esteem as well as life satisfaction of elderly women, and analyzed the effects of the physical and social characteristics on self-esteem and life satisfaction. The survey was conducted from January 10 to February 10, 2011 among the elderly women aged 60 or older in the Guri-si and its environs of Gyeonggi-do, and 380 responses were used in the data analysis. The statistical analysis methods were frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis. As a result, the physical characteristics of elderly women were classified by the activities of daily living(ADL), physical function, and disease status. The social characteristics of elderly women were classified by the religious and social activities. ADL, physical function, religious and social activities were shown to influence the self-esteem. In addition, ADL, physical function, and religious activities influenced the life satisfaction of elderly women.

The purpose of this study is to examine the impacts of religious activities on the death anxiety and self appearance, life quilty of senior citizens in a bid to give some suggestions on how the elderly could lead a successful life. The subjects in this study carried out face-to-face interview targeting and convenience sampling 300 elderly people who were aged 65 and over and resided in the city of Gwangju. SPSS 17.0 and AMOS 7.0 programs were used to analyze the collected data. The findings of the study were as follows: First, whether there were any gaps in death anxiety and self appearance, life quality according to the type of religious life was examined, and that made significant differences to life satisfaction(F=9.498, p<.001) and self- esteem(F=9.370, p<.001). But that produced no statistically significant results in association with depression. Second, a confirmatory factor analysis was made to find out the relationship of religion to depression and psychological well-being, and most of their indexes were positive, which proved that the variables had something to do with each other. Last, a path model was analyzed to verify the relationship of the participation of the elderly people in religious activities to their depression and psychological well-being, and the GFI, AGFI, and CFI of the variables were above .80, which lent credibility to the validity of the study.
Ever since gaining liberation in 1945, Korean society has constantly recalled memories of Japan's invasion and Korea's anti-Japanese movements for an independent state (AMIS). In the process, a small number of new religious groups were also identified as main subjects within AMIS. However, the logic necessary to connect these religious groups with AMIS was still weak. In order to solve this situation academically, the purpose of this article is to illuminate the activities of Mugeukdo (無極道) and Jo Jeongsan (趙鼎山) through the lens of AMIS and to reflect on the issues that will arise when linking the religion with AMIS. Regarding this purpose, this article analyzed the internal and external data collected by Daesoon Jinrihoe (大巡眞理會) about Jo Jeongsan and Mugeukdo's activities linked to AMIS. Later, this paper presents several tasks for future research on this subject matter. Specifically, according to Chapter II, the AMIS of Jo Jeongsan and Mugeukdo were generally centered on resistance at the family level, Jo Jeongsan's order to participate in the March 1st Movement, and Mugeukdo's industrial activities. In Chapter III, I reviewed the contents of Chapter II using Daesoon Jinrihoe's external materials. According to the results of the review, future research is required to discover and cross-check materials related to the AMIS of Jo Jeongsan and Mugeukdo believers. Likewise, further research is needed to highlight the theory of the enthronement of emperor (天子登極說) and the Great Opening of the later world (後天開闢) in terms of AMIS. These efforts can make contributions that increase the credibility of Daesoon Jinrihoe's internal data on the AMIS of Jo Jeongsan and Mugeukdo and expand the periphery of AMIS as it relates to certain religious groups. Subsequently, in Chapter IV, I present three items for reflecting upon the connection between certain religious groups and AMIS. The first is that criteria for establishing the category of AMIS is necessary to determine whether religious activities can be included. Second, reductionist approaches make it difficult to explain the reasons why some of the people who participated in AMIS did so while forming 'new religious movements,' and why these groups have maintained their religious identity even after liberation was achieved in 1945. Third, it is necessary to distinguish between the primary and the secondary dimensions to elaborate on the connection between these religions and AMIS. This means that researchers should be expected to look at whether the activities in question are based on a religious worldview and whether the goal of the activities is the realization of AMIS or the implementation of some aspect of that religious worldview. In the future, considering the mechanisms that make AMIS memorable in Korea, religious groups and religious studies should take greater interest in discovering and accumulating data that facilitates research on these topics. At the same time, effort should be made to find the basis for AMIS within religious worldviews. It can also be made possible through specific interest in further elaboration on the various AMIS-related activities of Jo Jeongsan and Mugeukdo.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among social activity, leisure activity and the level of life satisfaction of the rural elderly. 324 data was collected using structured questionnaires from the rural elderly aged 60 plus. The result of this study were as follows. First, the health and economic status of the demographic characteristics affect the level of life satisfaction of the rural elderly. Second, the economic, religious, and participation in community activity had a positive effect on the overall satisfaction level of the rural elderly life. And the economic activity had a positive effect on the subjective satisfaction of economic. Third, the hobby and social life activity had a positive effects on the overall satisfaction of life. The hobby, social life and pastime activities had a positive on the subjective satisfaction level of health. And the hobby and social life activities affected on the subjective satisfaction of economic positively.
Purpose - This study aimed to investigate the correlation between the social activity of the elderly and recognition of family cohesion of the elderly who are exposed to the current aging society. In addition, the study has delved into the method of family cohesion improvement through the differences between groups based on the mediator effect of how the results have effects on the elderly's self-control capabilities. Research design, data, and methodology - This study has targeted the elderly who are attending the elderly university among users in seven community centers located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do area. The study has also conducted a survey by the format of a half-structured questionnaire. It is aiming to investigate the elderly's family cohesion with children and their self-control capability, and understand their satisfaction of social activity to help successful elderly life. The study has suggested the following as mentioned. First, the study analyzed that the perceptual factor of family cohesion with children would be deducted based on advanced researches. Second, the influencing relationship would be analyzed through the relational analysis between the elderly's family cohesion and social activity. Results - The family cohesion with children has a significant effect on psychological happiness and it showed the influencing relationship with improvement of the elderly's self-control capability. Therefore, creating fellowship through meaningful conversation with children would be needed. In addition, various programs and consultant service would be offered to build healthy relationship between aged parents and their children. Through this, the elderly will be able to have not only better relationships with their family, but also increased psychological health and well-being as well. Conclusions - It is needed that not only supporting policies for children who take care of aged parents but also that the elderly who need long-term care could meet their children whenever they want through increased numbers of sanatoriums operated by cities and countries. In addition, the nation would offer financial and administrative support continuously so that people receive the benefits from sanatoriums located in the locality of children's residence beyond the elderly's residence. Moreover, social infra would be established as well.
The objective of this study is to examine whether there are differences in participation in social activities and the effects of social activity types on the levels of happiness of the Korean older adults by age groups. The 5th wave(2014) of the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing (KLoSA) was used and a total of 3,273 elderly were selected from the 5th wave, who were 65 years old and older and who were not living with their offsprings. Chi-square test, ANOVA, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis were used. The rate of participation in economic activities declined with age and the levels of participation in leisure activities was higher in the young-old group in comparison to the middle- and the oldest- old groups. The levels of participation in family activities was higher in the middle- and the oldest-old groups in comparison to the young-old group. Socializing activities and religious activities measured by the frequencies of activities were not significantly different among the age groups. The results of a regression analysis of social activity types and their effects on happiness by age groups are the followings: 1) Leisure, socializing, religious, and family activities all (with the exception of economic activities) significantly affected the level of happiness of older persons in the young-old group. 2) However, only socializing and family activities in the middle-old age group, and only family activities in oldest-old group, had a statistically significant impact on the levels of happiness. These results support that the rates of participation in the five types of social activities and their effects on the levels of happiness were different by age groups. The implication of this study was to report that needs and the interests of older individuals are different by age groups based on empirical evidences.

The purpose of this study was to examine the workday leisure time of dual-income fathers and mothers with preschool children. Data were gathered from the Statistics Korea Life Time Surveys from 2004(y1) and 2019(y2) (n=2,697). Life time was composed of three types(inevitable time, compulsory time, and leisure time) and leisure time was categorized into 11 activities(voluntarism, participation, social relationships, religion, rituals, culture and tourism, sports, game and play, media, rest, and others) to investigate gender differences and time effects. The major results were as follows: First, both working fathers and mothers with preschool children spent less inevitable time, more compulsory time, and less leisure time, than other adult group. Second, fathers spent more time on 10 leisure activities except religion in y1, and on all activities than mothers in y2. In y2, less time on three activities(social relationships, rituals, and media) for both fathers and mothers, less time on religion for mothers only, more time on two activities(participation, game and play) for both groups were spent than y1. Third, in the regression analysis of fathers' and mothers' leisure time on three leisure activities(sports, game and play, and media) with a distinct pattern from leisure time for adult group between y1 and y2, socioeconomic variables and lifetime variables showed different effects by gender and waves. Based on the results, family policy and programs to improve the work-life balances of working fathers and mothers discussed.

This study was conducted to identify factors affecting acculturation stress among Chinese students in Korea. 239 Chinese students in Korea were surveyed using a structured questionnaire from September 1, 2014 to January 31, 2015. The results were as follows. The subjects' acculturation stress was 3.29 out of 5. Their overall spiritual well-being was 3.10 out of 5, and their existential spiritual well-being and religious spiritual well-being were 3.67 and 2.54, respectively. On the other hand, demand for religious activities was 4.37 out of 6. Factors affecting acculturation stress among Chinese students in Korea were age, school year, period of stay in Korea, Korean language skill, demand for religion, and existential spiritual well-being, and their explanatory power was 36.1%. These findings suggest that religious activities need to include programs not only for guiding their lives of faith but also for improving their understanding of Korean culture and their Korean language skill and supporting their practical lives while studying in Korea.
The purpose of this study is to analysis the effects of religious activities on adolescents' life satisfaction. For this purpose, we surveyed the general trend of adolescents' religious activities and life satisfaction as well as life satisfaction according to demographical variables. In addition, this study analyzed adolescents' life satisfaction according to variables related to individual adolescents' religious activities and to parents' religious activities. The analyses of the results are as follows. First, since the childhood, adolescents have been participated in religious activities habitually or by enforcement or encouragement of their acquaintances. However, most adolescents think that the main purposes of their religious activities are a receiving grace and self-growing. So, they are willing to participate in worship service and spiritual training camp. Second, adolescents' life satisfaction was high when they got a high grade in school or they felt their health condition is good. The life satisfaction of adolescents who belong to economically high class families and whose fathers were college graduates or above is high. Third, the facts that effect on adolescent's life satisfaction are not how long they spend their time on religious activity, but the contents, motives and purposes of religious activities and satisfaction with religious activities. Fourth, adolescents' life satisfaction was high when their parents have same religion to them and their fathers participated in religious activities and their mothers did not participate in religious activities.
