Highway Ramp Metering Technique for Solving Non-Recurrent Congestion according to Incident (돌발상황에 따른 비 반복정체를 해소하기 위한 고속도로 램프미터링 기법)

  • Ramp metering has been used to solve recurrent or non-recurrent congestion on many highways. However, the existing ramp metering methods cannot control non-recurrent congestion like incident and don't have any methods to solve congestion after congestion. In addition, the methods cannot solve congestion quickly because ramp metering operates independently for each ramp. In this study, we developed SARAM which is ramp metering technique with shockwave theory in order to solve the problems. In simulation from Jangsoo IC to Joongdong IC, we confirmed that speed increased by 7.32km/h and delay time reduced by 39.14sec.

A Study on Characteristics of Highway Segments for Recreational Trips Using Principal Analysis (주성분분석을 이용한 고속도로의 여가성 도로구간 판별에 관한 연구)

  • A five-day work week has a great impact on the life styles of employed persons and their families. At the same time, the changes also impact on the transportation system because travel patterns, demand, and pattern of congestion change during weekends. The negative impacts on the transportation system should be examined in order to conceive measures to maintain dependable levels of service during weekends. The first step to pursue the issue is to identify the road segments heavily affected by augmented leisure trips. In this study, characteristics of highway segments are engineered by principal analysis using data from TCS database. Scores from principal analysis are employed to distinguish highway segments for leisure trips from total 197 segments considered in this study. In addition, indexes from principal analysis are proposed to identify highway segments for leisure trips.

시뮬레이션을 기반으로 한 지하철 혼잡도 개선에 관한 연구

  • 2009년 7월 개화에서 신논현까지 서울 지하철 9호선이 개통했다. 2010년 9호선 일평균 통행량은 예측 통행량 대비 97%수준이었으나, 2013년은 110%를 달성했다. 2015년 3월 2단계구간이 개통되어 평일 평균 이용객이 15만명 정도가 더 늘어났다. 국회 자료에 따르면, 출근시간 염창역에서 당산역까지의 혼잡도가 237%로 나타났다. 이는 다른 지하철 혼잡도 2배 뛰어넘는 수치이다. 당산역에서 여의도역(234%), 여의도역에서 노량진역(212%), 노량진역에서 동작역(216%)으로 기록이 될 만큼 특정 구간의 혼잡도가 높게 나타났고 급행노선을 선호하는 인원이 많아 시간이 지날수록 정체현상이 가중되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 혼잡도의 주 원인인 정체현상을 감소시키고 여객 수송율을 증가시키기 위해 기존의 급행 프로세스를 변경하는 방안을 제시한다. 여기에 적용된 연구방법은 혼잡도 수준을 낮추기 위해 필요한 프로세스 설정하고 아레나 시뮬레이션 프로그램 분석을 통해 본 연구에서 제시한 방안에 대해 검증한다. 본 연구에서 제안한 방식을 통해 지하철의 혼잡도 해소에 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다.

  • 정보통신기술이 발전함에 따라 수많은 데이터가 발생하고 있다. 이러한 '빅데이터'의 활용은 국민의 니즈 파악, 공공서비스 제공 등 미래 경쟁력의 핵심 가치라 할 수 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 기상데이터와 교통데이터를 수집한 후, 분산 시스템 환경 하에서 실행되는 기계학습 알고리즘을 이용하여 기상기후와 관련된 교통 정체 구간 예측 시스템에 대해 제안하고자 한다.

  • 경기 남양주 진접지구는 수도권에서 인기가 높은 신도시 중 하나다. 서울과 인접해 있으면서도 한적한 전원의 정취를 느낄 수 있기 때문. 최적의 주거환경을 갖춘 곳이지만 딱 한 가지 아쉬운 것이 있으니 바로 교통문제다. 진접지구와 서울을 잇는 유일한 도로인 국도47호선 퇴계원-진접구간은 상습 지 정체구간으로 악명 높다. 진접지구가 개발됨에 따라 인구유입은 지속적으로 늘고 있는데 반해 도로는 이를 감당키 어려운 4차로에 불과한 것. 그래서 지역민들은 늘 교통대란에 시달리고 있는 상황이다. 하지만 이 고생도 올해면 끝날 듯하다. 퇴계원-진접간 도로를 8차로로 확장하는 공사를 맡고 있는 쌍용건설이 공사에 더욱 박차를 가하고 있기 때문이다. 게다가 우수한 안전관리로 대 내외에 이름까지 떨치고 있어 도로의 안전성은 물론 공정 전반이 신뢰를 얻고 있다. 안전으로 미래 진접을 열어갈 길을 만들고 있는 쌍용건설(주) 퇴계원-진접간 도로공사 현장을 찾아가 봤다.

  • This study suggested experimental study results of congestion detection method for intruding vehicle enforcement system. This congestion detection method is developed to determine optimal operation criteria of intruding vehicle enforcement system as detecting traffic congestion. In ITS sector, traffic management systems generally have used a sectional travel speed for congestion detection. However, image sensors have high error rate of congestion detection because of speed error. This study suggested comprehensive congestion detection criteria based on speed and occupancy rate using field studies. As field study results, the proposed intruding vehicle enforcement system using image sensor is capable of accurately detecting the traffic congestion using sectional speed of 20km/h and occupancy rate of 60% as congestion detection criteria.

  • This research proposed integrated expressway traffic management strategy using ramp metering and toll mainline metering. This research suggested a traffic signal optimization model for integrated operation of ramp and mainline metering based on Demand-Capacity Model that is used to optimize allowable input volume for ramp metering in FREQ model. The objective function of this model is sectional throughput volume maximization, and this model can calculate optimal signal timings for mainline metering and ramp metering. This study conducted an effectiveness analysis of integrated metering strategy using PARAMICS and its API. It targeted Seoul's Outer Ring Expressway between Gimpo and Siheung toll gate. As a simulation result, integrated operation of mainline and ramp metering provided more smooth traffic flow, and throughput volume of mainline increased to 14% in congested section. In addition, a queue of 400 meter was formed at metering point of toll gate. This research checked that integrated traffic management strategy facilitates more efficient traffic operation of mainline and ramp from diffused traffic congestion.

  • This study focuses on improving the performance of freeway incident detection by introducing some new measures to reduce false alarms in developing a new incident detection model. The model consists of the 5 major components through which a series of decision makings in determining the given traffic flow condition are made. The decision making process was designed such that the causes of traffic congestions can be accurately classified into several types including incidents and bottlenecks according to their unique characteristics. The model performance was tested and found to be compatible with that of the existing well-recognized models in terms of the detection rate and detection time. It should noted that the model produced much less false alarms than most of the existing models. The study results prove that the initial objective of the study was satisfied as it was an experimental trial to improve the false alarm rate for the incident detection model to be more pactically usable for traffic management purposes.

Macroscopic Analysis on Supercritical Transition of Liquid Hydrocarbon Fuel (액체탄화수소의 초임계 천이과정에 대한 거시적 특성 분석)

  • In order to analyze supercritical transition of liquid hydrocarbon fuel which used propulsion engine, visualization of phase changing using Methylcyclohexane (MCH) was performed. Also, measurements of temperature and pressure were conducted to obtain saturation lines of MCH and Decane. delayed increase of the pressure existed near the critical point due to dramatical increase of specific heats and the critical opalescence was only observed from the end point of delaying to the critical point. Beyond the critical point, the boundary between phases disappeared and the strong density gradient was observed. As the comparison between experimental and numerical saturation lines, the numerical estimation for mixture had relatively little difference while the results of pure components had almost coincidence.

Development of VSL Control Algorithms for Various Traffic Conditions in Tunnels (교통상황별 터널부 VSL 표출제어 알고리즘 개발)

  • This paper developed the VSL control algorithms for various traffic conditions in tunnels. Various algorithms determining control speed, buffer speed, and display time were suggested in order to apply three gantry locations. The algorithms were evaluated by constructing simulation environments using python and VISSIM Com-Interface. Results show that speed difference between congested flow and normal flow was 50 km/h without algorithm application, but the difference was reduced to 20 km/h with algorithm application. In addition, the length of congested region in the exit section of the tunnel was also reduced from 800m to 300m with algorithm application. It is expected that the traffic accidents in tunnels may be reduced since the average and standard deviation of the speed are greatly reduced after applying the algorithms suggested.
