  • Previous studies using facial expressions have revealed valence and arousal as two core dimensions of affective space. However, it remains unknown if the two dimensional structure is consistent across ages. This study investigated affective dimensions using six facial expressions (angry, disgusted, fearful, happy, neutral, and sad) at three ages (young, middle-aged, and old). Several studies previously required participants to directly rate subjective similarity between facial expression pairs. In this study, we collected indirect measures by asking participants to decide if a pair of two stimuli conveyed the same emotions. Multidimensional scaling showed that "angry-disgusted" and "sad-disgusted" pairs are similar at all three ages. In addition, "angry-sad," "angry-neutral," "neutral-sad," and "disgusted-fearful" pairs were similar at old age. When two faces in a pair reflect the same emotion, "sad" was the most inaccurate in old age, suggesting that the ability to recognize "sad" decreases with old age. This study suggested that the general two-core dimension structure is robust across all age groups with the exception of specific emotions.

  • The purpose of this study was to explore the mediating effect of emotional dysregulation on the relationship between the specific domains of self-esteem and aggression. Three questionnaire were administered to 287 individuals and the multiple regression analyses and Baron and Kenny's hierarchical regression analyses were used. The result shows that social and objective ability and positive character had significant influence on aggression, while impulse control difficulties, lack of emotional clarity and limited access to emotion regulation strategies largely contributed to aggression. Moreover, emotional dysregulation functioned as a significant mediator variable for explaining the link between self-esteem and aggression. Impulse control difficulties have fully mediated positive personality and hostility, limited access to emotion regulation has partially mediated social and objective ability and hostility, respectively.

  • The purpose of this study was to carry out cognitive movement therapy program for children with affective and behavioral disorder based on neuro science, psychology, motor learning, muscle physiology, biomechanics, human motion analysis, movement control and to quantify characteristic of expression and gestures according to change of facial expression by emotional change. We could observe problematic expression of children with affective disorder, and could estimate the efficiency of application of movement therapy program by the face expression change of children with affective disorder. And it could be expected to accumulate data for early detection and therapy process of development disorder applying converged measurement and analytic method for human development by quantification of emotion and behavior therapy analysis, kinematic analysis. Therefore, the result of this study could be extendedly applied to the disabled, the elderly and the sick as well as children.

  • The purposes of this study were to compare elementary gifted students with general students in respect of their character strengths, emotional intelligence and learning flow and to analyze the relationships. The results obtained in this study were as follows. First, the character strengths, emotional intelligence, and learning flow of the gifted students were higher than those of the general students. Humanity was the highest virtue for both gifted and general students. Gifted students showed a significantly lower mean difference in humility and modesty than that of general students. The gifted students showed a statistically higher mean value in the sub-regions of emotional intelligence and all sub-areas of the learning flow than that of the general students. Second, the strong correlations were found between character strengths and emotional intelligence, between character strengths and learning flow in gifted students. Third, the results showed that the character strengths of gifted students affected their emotional intelligence and learning flow significantly.

  • This study reviewed the previous research materials and made a positive investigation to identify the structural interrelation of caddies' emotional labor, job stress and turnover intention. Some analytical findings are as follows: First, the job stress increases in proportion as the emotional labor. Second, the turnover intention is not in proportion as the frequency of emotional display or the subordinate element of the emotional labor but the degree of the emotional expression and dissonance. Third, the turnover intention is in proportion as the job stress. In other words, the higher the emotional labor, the more the job stress and turnover intention. Consequently, the caddies should be highly qualified to express themselves according to their job conditions. Also, the stronger the caddies' job stress, the more their turnover intention. It is necessary to use the leadership to relieve the job stress and motivate the caddies to have the pride. My solution will have a positive effect on lessening the job stress and turnover intention.

  • This study investigated empirically the structural relationship of golf participants' basic psychological needs, exercise emotion, and exercise-adherence behavior. Using two-hundred thirty questionnaires, the results were as follows. First, golf participants' autonomy, competence, and relatedness had a significant impact on the positive emotions. On the other hand, only competence lowered the negative emotions, and the other variables did not have a significant impact. Second, golf participants' autonomy, competence, and relatedness increased the exercise-adherence behavior. Third, golf participants' positive emotion increased the exercise-adherence behavior but a negative emotion decreased it. In terms of the indirect effect, golf participants' autonomy, competence, and relatedness influenced the exercise-adherence behavior, which was mediated by exercise emotion. This study is useful to sports participants interested in real value and a happy life through exercise-adherence behavior.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating effect of perceived parental empathy in the relationship between adolescent depression and eat problem. For this purpose, we conducted a hierarchical regression analysis for 246 middle and high school boys in the K region. As a result, the relationship between eating problem and depression was controlled by parental sympathy. As a result of analyzing the moderating effects of sub- factors of parental sympathy, in the case of the father, awareness of emotion, cold emotional reaction, and excessive emotional reaction showed moderating effects. And in mothers, awareness of emotion, perspective taking, cold emotional reaction, and excessive emotional reaction moderated the relationship between eating problem and depression. It is significant that this study confirmed that the empathy of parents perceived by adolescents is a control variable to mitigate the adverse effects of depression on eating problems.

  • The purpose of the present study was to test the relationship between perceived parenting styles and emotional problems among adolescents, and to obtain basic informations in terms of preventing and reducing the emotional problems. Based on literature review, a structural equation model to explain the causal relationships between democratic parenting and emotional problems, and between controlling parenting and emotional problems respectively. This study analyzed the 6th and 7th data from Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey. The major results of the study are as follows. First, democratic parenting had a negative relationship with emotional problems. Second, controlling parenting had a positive relationship with emotional problems. Third, according to the gender and level of subjective health, there were significant differences in perceived parenting styles and emotional problems. Finally, in terms of improving parenting skills and reducing emotional problems, implications of the research findings and suggestions were discussed.

  • This study examined the type and extent of interruption between induced emotion and succeeding arithmetic operation. The experiment was carried out to determine the influence of the induced emotions (anger, joy, and sorrow) and stimulus types (picture and sentence) on the cognitive process load that may block the interactions among the constituents of working memory. The study subjects were 32 undergraduates who were similar with respect to age and education parameters and were especially instructed to attend to induced emotion by imitation of facial expression and to make a correct decision during the remainder calculation task. In the results, the stimulus types did not exhibit any difference but there was a significant difference among the induced emotion types. The difference was observed in slower response time at positive emotion(joy condition) as compared with other emotions(anger and sorrow). More specifically, error and delayed correct response rate for emotion types were analysed to determine which phase the slower response was associated with. Delayed responses of the joy condition by sentence-inducing stimulus were identified with the error rate difference, and those by picture-inducing stimulus with the delayed correct response rate. These findings not only suggest that induced positive emotion increased response time compared to negative emotions, but also imply that picture-inducing stimulus easily affords arithmetic fluctuation whereas sentence-inducing stimulus results in arithmetic failure.
