A Study on Relation between Attribution Style of Elementary Gifted and Talented in Information and Their Attitude to Information Science (초등 정보과학영재의 귀인성향과 정보과학에 대한 태도와의 관계에 대한 조사연구)

  • This paper aims at figuring out specific characteristics of affective attitude of gifted and talented in information, predicting follow-up activities and desirable direction of learning. Based on the analysis of this paper as educational directions and suggestions for elementary gifted and talented students in information are as follows: First, in gender ratio of gifted and talented in information, including the fact that ratio of boys is high, there remain the previous prejudice of higher information capability and it seems that girls who depend on external factors, parents and teachers should make more efforts to help girls trust their own capability in information science and lead them to give more value to attribution of efforts for achievement in information science. Second, as grade is higher, motivation to learn information science and attitude for success in information science among sub-elements of attitude to information science, motivation to seed positive recognition to higher graders is required. Third, in screening and selecting gifted and talented students in information, attitude to information science should be considered as main cause and the existing gifted and talented students in information should be prompted to improve their attitude to information science with value on effort for information science.

  • It is needed to make more efforts to activate the gifted child education in elementary information science regarding selection of the gifted, development of appropriate curriculum, however, as a saying goes that a quality of education is depended on teacher's quality, and outstanding performance of teachers in charge of teaching the gifted is critical to make education for the gifted in elementary information science successful. Considering the significances of teacher variances, the research on the professionality of teacher who is responsible for the elite education in elementary information science should be made, along with a plan to cultivate their competence.

Analysis of Computer Scientific Attitude of Information Gifted Students in the University of Science Education Institute for Gifted (대학교부설 과학영재교육원의 정보영재 학생들의 컴퓨터 과학적 태도 분석)

  • There are 27 science education institutes for gifted education institutes in the university with support from the MSIT (Ministry of Science and ICT). Mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, earth sciences, and information classes are given in each science education institute for the gifted. The authors developed a curriculum with components of computing thinking for information-gifted students. To determine if the curriculum is effective on the computer scientific attitude of the information gifted, TOSRA was modified and the test was then developed. Information students were educated at K university's science education institute for the gifted with the developed curriculum for one year and the computer scientific attitude of them was tested. According to the test results, there was a significant difference in the computer scientific attitude of the curriculum conducted at the institute at 0.05 level of significance. Statistically significant differences were observed in the social implications of computer science, attitudes of computer scientific inquiry, and the normality of computer technicians at the level of significance of 0.05. On the other hand, there were no significant differences in the adoption of computer scientific attitudes, the enjoyment of computer science lessons, leisure interest in computer science, and career interest in computer science.

The self-efficacy beliefs of gifted students in the area of sciences and High Achievers -Focused on Elementary School- (과학분야 영재학생과 학업우수학생의 자기 효능감 -초등학교 학생을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the self-efficacy of gifted students in the area of sciences. For this purpose, The Self-efficacy Beliefs Inventory was administered to 220 5th and 6th gifted students and high achievers. The research findings were as follows; First, there was no statistically significant difference in the general, academic, self regulated learning, and others’ expectation self-efficacy beliefs between gifted students and high achievers as well as among groups of gifted students. Second, the gifted students in mathematics were higher than other groups in the mathematics self-efficacy beliefs. Third, the high achievers were higher than other groups in the language art self-efficacy beliefs. Fourth, the gifted students in mathematics were higher than other groups in mathematics self-efficacy beliefs. Fifth, the gifted students in science were higher than other groups in science self-efficacy beliefs. Sixth, the gifted students in IT were higher than other groups in computer self-efficacy beliefs. Seventh, the gifted students in IT were lower than other groups in social self-efficacy beliefs.

Information Needs and Information Seeking Behaviors of Students in the Science School for Gifted (과학영재학교 학생들의 정보요구 및 정보이용행태에 관한 연구)

  • This study aims to analyze students' information needs and information-seeking behavior at science schools for gifted through in-depth interviews. The research design was conducted based on previous studies. Through in-depth interviews, this study examined ten students from six out of eight science schools for the gifted in Korea for information needs and overall information-seeking behavior. The results showed the information needs of students at science schools for gifted in the areas of curricular and extracurricular activities as well as the information-seeking behavior in teaching, learning, and research activities, which were the main topics of interest to students based on the ISP model. Based on these results, we identified the preferred information sources in the information-seeking process and discussed the peculiarities and implications of students' information-seeking behavior. The research is meaningful as it can be used as a basis for further research on the science school for gifted library and as a resource for providing services for students with deep interests and talents in science subject areas.

  • In this paper, we tried to identify implications of selecting gifted of information science & followed educational system via analyzing each of student's characteristics in each subjects they study within Science Education Institute for the Gifted. A study of the existing institutions do not have experience of the gifted students based on assessment through observation of the 1-year science, mathematics and information science education in the List of attribute analysis. Learners of Information Science became with analysis that Attitude Category was superior in mathematics to the subject of science and Problem Solving Category regardless of the subjects showed similar. As to, Attitude Category, Problem Solving Category and Mathematics Cognition Category was analyzed to be closed and we could confirm through the qualitative observation record. On this, the researcher concluded that the mathematics could know the effect fitness by a learner rather than the subject of science as to an attitude and problem resolution area.

  • 본 연구는 컴퓨터 과학 프로젝트 수행이 영재들의 창의성을 향상시키는데 미치는 효과를 분석하기 위하여 실제로 컴퓨터 과학 교과 수업에서 영재들을 대상으로 프로젝트를 수행하고 그 결과를 설문지를 통해 분석하였다. 이를 통하여 고등학교 수준의 영재들의 효과적인 컴퓨터 과학 프로젝트 활동을 위해 고려되어야 하는 문제점을 찾고 이를 보완하는 방안을 마련하고자 한다.

Conceptions Toward Career Development and Occupational View between Giftedness in Computer Science and Normal Students in Elementary School (초등정보과학영재와 일반학생의 진로발달 및 직업관 인식에 대한 조사 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the differences of the career development and the occupational view between giftedness in computer science and normal students in elementary school, so the results of this study provide assistance to the teacher for the direction and guidance on the career education of the giftedness in computer science in elementary school. This survey is based on 82 giftedness in computer science and 167 normal elementary school students. The questionnaires used in the study contain questions asking regarding the career development and the occupational view. The results of this study were as follows : First, according to the consciousness analysis result about career, the giftedness in computer science choose to be scientific technicians, the normal students choose to be artists. The both groups get career information from their parents, but they usually don't get career counseling from teachers. The education of giftedness in computer science does not contribute to changing their dreams, while normal students have no interest in computer science. Second, according to the career development analysis result, in comparison with non-gifted students, the gifted in information science had more success in all domains of career development. Third, according to the occupational view analysis result, the information science gifted students had higher meaningful rate than the normal students. Intrinsic domain' had higher meaningful rate among the subordinate domains, there is no difference in 'extrinsic domain' and 'incidental domain' between the information science gifted students and the normal students. Fourth, according to the correlation analysis result of the career development and the occupational view, there is a positive correlation in all domains of them. The high they are in the career development, the more they have the certain occupational view. Likewise, if they have the certain occupational view, they will be more successful in career development. Based on the findings of this research, the directing and guidance on the career education of giftedness in computer science in elementary school is same as the followings. We should educate parents regarding information about career for students who are under the influence of parents greatly and indicate them to apply to their children appropriately. In addition, for making them to have the positive image of the computer science, teacher should provide more information about the area of information and form various curriculums to induce more interests about computer science. We need to strengthen the career education for guiding the gifted to assist them to establish their own goal and realize them how to study and choose their career in the future. In school education field, it must develop and manage the definite and empirical program, not the career development program which is focused on only entrance into advanced school, to boost self-realization ability and the suitable career education program based on the correct understanding on giftedness in computer science. For this, through steady trying and research, teachers should be eater to develop the career education for students. Also, we have to implement the internal stability career education program, so it will help students to be aware of their job and career; therefore, students will be able to plan and prepare for their career in this rapid changing world.

  • The study shows the typical 7 models of gifted students teaching-learning developed at home and abroad so far and suggests on integrated teaching-learning model that we can commonly apply to mathematics-information gifted students.   • Researches on prodigies and education for those have recently been progressing in many fields. Education for the gifted, which was basically on Math and Science on the start, now includes Intelligence, Invention, Cultural Sciences, Art, and so on. With the progression towards extremely developed information society, interests in and importance on the courses for the talented get more and more focused. The problem is, however, choosing the gifted and educating them is not an easy matter, since the history of Intelligence Technology is relatively short and it is hard to identify prodigies and categorize what kinds of courses they need. Also, from 2010 "Science Education Institute for the Gifted" freshmen draft, paper-based admission test has been discarded and teacher-recommendation through long-term observation introduced. Therefore needs have been increasing for quality selection methods including observation records, recommendation letters, and portfolios. Reformation on teaching and creative selection methods has been accentuated because of lack of academic base for selecting candidates for education for the gifted. Because of all those mentioned above, reliances for the selection processes during the last three years and the one in 2010, observation records, recommendations and portfolios included, have been analyzed and evaluated. Several factors which can be used instead of paper-based tests were coordinated. Based on it, it was highly possible and has been successful to draft all the applicants in cognitive, sentimental, and creative fields.
