  • In current knowledge-based society, development and growth of IT-related industry is essential for a nation's competitiveness since it's economic power depends on IT industry in many countries. A success of IT industry depends on a few IT geniuses like Steve Jobs and Bill Gates. Thus, it is necessary to identify and foster gifted children in IT as early as possible. The purpose of this paper is to identify the correlation of academic performance per subject for the gifted children in IT. The analysis is focused on three subjects, that is, Information, Science, and Mathematics, respectively. For this purpose, the gifted children are selected and analyzed in a gifted science education center attached in a university at Seoul Metropolitan Area. The analysis results show that there is meaningful correlation among three subjects. That is, if high scores in a subject means high scores in other subjects. For instance, a gifted child with high scores in Information got high scores in Science and Mathematics. The result will be useful to improve selection examinations and curriculum for gifted education in IT, for inclusive education and convergent education.

  • For the increasingly complicated and technology dependent 21st century, ICT literacy is being emphasized by education authorities as a key ability needed to succeed in a knowledge-based society. Accordingly, since 2007, several studies have been conducted to measure the ICT literacy levels of students. This study aimed at analyzing how ICT literacy levels vary according to students' skill sets from the viewpoint of educational convenience. To fulfill this goal, the ICT literacy abilities of 167 elementary students and 159 middle school students (all receiving education at "gifted students" education centers) were compared with the following results. First, elementary students displayed differences with regards to 'computer and network' and 'information society and ethics' among the content elements, and 'critical mind' and 'information communication' among capability elements according to their skill sets. Second, middle school students displayed differences with regards to 'information society and ethics' and 'information organization and creation' elements according to their skill sets. The significance of this study lies in the fact that it measured the ICT literacy levels of --and made suggestions for education to-- students specially gifted in information, science and mathematics rather than general students.

  • This study aims to analyze students' information needs and information-seeking behavior at science schools for gifted through in-depth interviews. The research design was conducted based on previous studies. Through in-depth interviews, this study examined ten students from six out of eight science schools for the gifted in Korea for information needs and overall information-seeking behavior. The results showed the information needs of students at science schools for gifted in the areas of curricular and extracurricular activities as well as the information-seeking behavior in teaching, learning, and research activities, which were the main topics of interest to students based on the ISP model. Based on these results, we identified the preferred information sources in the information-seeking process and discussed the peculiarities and implications of students' information-seeking behavior. The research is meaningful as it can be used as a basis for further research on the science school for gifted library and as a resource for providing services for students with deep interests and talents in science subject areas.

  • In recent years, parents of students and government have been taking a growing interest in education for the gifted students and there are many research reports about the gifted education. Most of the reports, however, focuses on the conceptional feature of the gifted education program such as organization, operation, management, evaluation, etc,. In other words, there are very few researches on instructional materials for gifted students even though the materials is a critical factor for successful education programs. So, this paper introduces a lecture notes used in a personal education for gifted students to contribute in developing education contents in computer science area. The instructional materials titled as "The Necessity and Application of Matrix in Computer Science" is based on linear equation to usher the students into creative problem recognition and groping for solutions. Also, the instructional materials is useful for students to understand the tight mathematics-computer science relationship and the basic concept of liner algebra.

  • Since the science of information is appearing no less important than mathematics and natural science as our society is rapidly becoming information-oriented, the necessity to distinguish prodigies of this field and to educate them as early as possible is also being emphasized. Unfortunately, however, the pertinent study is still in its beginning stage. In this study, I have reviewed the character, definition and method to distinguish prodigies and the procedure of developing a test, as well as researching and analyzing the proper process of distinguishing prodigies, through theoretical contemplation on the method of distinguishing the gifted children. Also, I have characterized and defined the information prodigies after clarifying the character of 'Discrete Mathematics' which becomes the basis of the science of information, paving the way to make a test method that can distinguish those information prodigies. As a result of our applying the system by using the distinction test, it turned out that the distinction test was pretty reliable. Accordingly, it can be utilized as a significant distinction test for information prodigies in the forthcoming future.

  • Research of information gifted analysis through the adult gifted electrical of information field is not nearly done. Therefore, there is a need for a study to analyze the information gifted property through the life of adult talent. In the present study, the 'Alan Turing' who left the achievements in the field of information was chosen to study. And analyzed the biographies of Alan Turing in the content analysis method was used to derive the factor of information gifted property. As a result, it was found that it contain twelve factors to information gifted of the two regions of Alan Turing. The information special education for extending the gifted of information that is exposed in various forms, there is a need to provide a curriculum that can extend the capabilities of mathematics and science education methods, long-term and multilateral it is necessary to determine the tools and good sense of the information talent teacher that can be to determine the information gifted. Based on this understanding, in future studies, to determine the elementary school information gifted, various information gifted either present were present as may be a substantial aid targeting a map information gifted of the factor analysis, there is a need to be sustained process of information gifted expression of adult information gifted in the direction of a more systematic analysis.

  • The technology development is the one of the motive leading power to change the world. At this point of time, the most countries in the world take notice of the gifted science education because they believe that the development of a high-grade manpower resources is the only way of the development of their own country. Before the gifted education, however, the study of the gifted characteristics should be achieved first. Analysis of the intellectual characteristic in the research of the gifted characteristic has been accomplished with many of standardized test tool, however, analysis of the non-intellectual characteristics has not been researched with real sources because of the measuring method and the vogue range. Accordingly, this research will analyzed characteristics of the gifted in computers to focus on the non-intellectual through the difference of normal child. The field of the gifted in computers, in particular, hardly has been researched because the beginning of this study has a short period of time. Therefore, this research focus on analysis of the non-intellectual characteristics of the gifted in computer so that we understand well gifted child in computers in education of that.

  • In this study, contents of programming curriculum were designed as instrumental subjects for scientifically gifted students, not for IT gifted ones. Firstly, the programming curriculum consisted of 3 sections; Programming Understanding, Object-Oriented Programming, and Simulation Programming as a result of two semesters. Then, the lectures including project-based and problem-solving tasks were given to scientifically gifted students in a high school during one semester to verify whether they could apply the contents to studies and researches in math or science or not. As a result of this study, the students could improve numerical analysis and simulation program development capabilities in math or science as well as the problem-solving ability based on computational thinking. Moreover, it was proved that the students changed their perception about programing learning. They started to think that programing learning was necessary to studies and researches in math or science. The results of this study propose guideline to design programming curriculum as instrumental subjects for scientifically gifted students.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the perceptions of scientifically gifted middle school students about their engineering design process according to gender and talent division. The instrument in surveying their perceptions about the engineering design process consists of 24 items (Likert 5 point type) five domains: problem definition, information collection and utilization, idea generation, inquiry performance, and teamwork (communication, cooperation, leadership). A total of 102 scientifically gifted students participated in the survey, according to gender (69 males and 33 females) and talent divisions (physics, biological sciences, software, mathematics, space-geological sciences, and chemistry). They had a high level of awareness of their engineering design ability. It is necessary to develop a customized gifted-education program so that their talent in their field of interest can be fully displayed according to the gender and talent division. In addition, the teaching and learning methods and strategies of the engineering design program for the scientifically gifted middle school students should be established to fully reflect the practical needs of the talented.
