We investigated the charging characteristics of a conducting solid sphere (glassy carbon sphere) comparing with that of a water droplet and check the applicability of the perfect conductor theory. For the systematic research, sphere size, applied voltages, viscosity of the medium were changed and the results were compared with that of corresponding water droplets and the perfect conductor theory. Basically, a glassy carbon sphere follows the perfect conductor theory but the charging amount was lower as much as 70~80% of theoretical prediction value due to oil film formed between electrode and a carbon sphere. We hope this result provides basic understandings on the solid sphere contact charging phenomenon and related applications.
Birdwhistell explains in the whole communication, language conveys only 35% of the meaning and the rest 65% is conveyed by non-linguistic media. Humans do not entirely depend on linguistic communication, but are sensitive being, using every sense of theirs. Human communication, by using facial expression, gesture as well as language, is able to convey more concrete meaning. Especially, facial expression is a many-sided message system, which delivers Individual Personality, interest, information about response and emotional status, and can be said as powerful communication tool. Though being able to be changed according to various expressive techniques and degree and quality of expression, the symbolic sign of facial expression is characterized by generalized qualify. Animation characters, as roles in story, have vitality by emotional expression of which mental world and psychological status can reveal and read naturally on their actions or facial expressions.
The effects of the operating conditions in AFC single cells have not been studied in detail. In this study, by using a one-dimensional isothermal model a computational simulation was conducted to investigate the effects of the initial electrolyte concentration and the operating gas pressure. According to the result, the optimum electrolyte concentration at the base-case was found to be within $3.0\~3.5$ M. The variation of the cell performance according to the electrolyte concentration was found to be caused mainly by the charge transfer resistances of both electrodes, Henry's constant and the liquid phase diffusivity of the dissolved gases. It was also found that an increase in operating pressure increased the reaction rates and the solubilities of the gases, which led to a considerable enhancement of the cell performance.
${\beta}$-Substituent effect on the reactivity of retro-ene decarboxylation of but-3-enoic acid was investigated theoretically. It was found that charge effect is important not only through ${\pi}$-electron transfer as has been claimed to rationalize experimental results but also through polarization as found for the $CH_3$ substituent. The reactivity was not determined by the charge effect alone but the HOMO-LUMO energy gap was also found to affect the reactivity. In general it was confirmed that the greater the ${\pi}$-electron donating power of the substituent, the greater is the reactivity.

This paper presents a jitter characteristic improved phase locked loop (PLL) with an RC time constant circuit. In the RC time constant circuit, LPF's voltage is inputted to a comparator through small and large RC time constant circuits. The signal through a small RC time constant circuit has almost same loop filter output voltage. The signal through a large RC time constant circuit has the average value of loop filter output voltage and does as a role of reference voltage to the comparator. The output of the comparator controls the sub-charge pump which provide a current to LPF. When the loop filter output voltage increases, the sub-charge pump discharges the loop filter and decreases loop filter output voltage. When the loop filter output voltage decreases, the sub-charge pump charges the loop filter and increases loop filter output voltage. The negative feedback loop reduces the variation of loop filter output voltage resulting in jitter characteristic improvement.
SEI (solid electrolyte interphase) layers are generated on a graphite negative electrode from three different electrolytes and low-temperature ($-30^{\circ}C$) charge/discharge performance of the graphite electrode is examined. The electrolytes are prepared by adding 2 wt% of vinylene carbonate (VC) and fluoroethylene carbonate (FEC) into a standard electrolyte solution. The charge-discharge capacity of graphite electrode shows the following decreasing order; FEC-added one>standard>VC-added one. The polarization during a constant-current charging shows the reverse order. These observations illustrate that the SEI film resistance and charge transfer resistance differ according to the used additives. This feature has been confirmed by analyzing the chemical composition and thickness of three SEI layers. The SEI layer generated from the standard electrolyte is composed of polymeric carbon-oxygen species and the decomposition products ($Li_xPF_yO_z$) of lithium salt. The VC-derived surface film shows the largest resistance value even if the salt decomposition is not severe due to the presence of dense film comprising C-O species. The FEC-derived SEI layer shows the lowest resistance value as the C-O species are less populated and salt decomposition is not serious. In short, the FEC-added electrolyte generates the SEI layer of the smallest resistance to give the best low-temperature performance for the graphite negative electrode.

In this study, the polyaniline films of emeraldine base(EB) and lucoemeraldine base(LEB) form chemically doping with poly(sodium-4 styrenesulfonate, PSS) were prepared by casting the mixed solution of chloroform and m-cresol on ITO(indium tin oxide) electrode. By analyzing UV-vis spectra of the mixed solutions, the effects of the secondary doping by m-cresol were obtained. And the conductivity of polyaniline film was increased with increasing m-cresol content. The results suggest that the improvement of conductivity obtained by secondary doping results primarily from interaction of polyaniline and m-cresol. As the results of analyzing cyclic voltammograms, it was known that the redox peak currents of polyaniline electrode prepared from LEB were larger and more reversible than those of polyaniline electrodes prepared from EB. The charge transfer resistances($R_{ct}$) of polyaniline electrodes were reduced with increasing m-cresol content, and LEB/PSS electrodes were smaller than EB/PSS electrodes. This result agrees to the analysis of the redox peak current of cyclic voltammograms. The solution resistance and the capacity of electrical double layer almost unchanged in all prepared polyaniline electrodes. It was confirmed that solution resistance was independent of frequency factor in AC impedance spectra. Also the polyaniline film doping with PSS was revealed pseudo n-type characteristics of conducting polymer.

In order to investigate the origin of capacity fading with charge/discharge cycling in $LiMn_2O_4$ thin film battery, impedance studies have been performed with increasing cycling in $LiMn_2O_4/1M\;LiClO_4-PC/Li$ cells. The fitted values obtained from impedance data show good agreements with the experimental results. Especially, the element of charge transfer resistance of $LiMn_2O_4/liquid$ electrolyte interface initially increased, and then saturated with increasing the charge/discharge cycles, which could explain the cause of initial abrupt capacity fading of $LiMn_2O_4$ thin film with cycling due to interfacial reaction. The steady capacity fading is caused by the increasing of Warburg resistance. The chemical diffusion coefficient of Li ions decreased from $5.15\times10^{-11}cm^2/sec$ at 1st cycles to $6.3\times10^{-12}cm^2/sec$ at 800th cycles, which attributed to the Jahn-Teller distortion/Mn dissolution which diminishes tetra hedral sites necessary for Li diffusion in $LiMn_2O_4$.
Synthetic gene carriers such as poly-cationic polymers easily form complexes with plasmid DNA which contains negative charge. Chitosan is a polysaccharide that demonstrates much potential as a gene delivery system. The ability of depolymerized chitosan to condense DNA was determined using electrophoresis. Dynamic laser scattering and scanning electron microscopy were used to examine the size and the morphology of the chitosan/DNA complex. Parameters such as chitosan molecular weight and charge density influenced the complex size and the DNA amount condensed with chitosan. The cell viabilities in the presence of chitosan ranged between 84-108% of the control in all experiments. Gene expression efficacy using chitosan/DNA complex was enhanced in 293 cells relative to that using naked DNA, although it was lower than that using lipofecamine. Transfection efficacy using low molecular weight chitosan (Mw=8,517) was higher than those of the control and the other chitosan (MW=4,078). The low molecular weight chitosan (MW=8,517) with a high charge density (18.32 mV) fulfilled the requirements for a suitable model gene delivery system with respect to the condensing ability of DNA, complex formation, and transfection efficacy.
This work presents a non-destructive and straightforward approach to assemble a large-scale conductive electronic film made of a pre-treated single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) solution. For effective electron transfer between the immobilized enzyme and SWCNT electronic film, we optimized the pre-treatment step of SWCNT with p-terphenyl-4,4"-dithiol and dithiothreitol. Glucose oxidase (GOx, a model enzyme in this study) was immobilized on the SWCNT electronic film following the positively charged polyelectrolyte layer deposition. The glucose detection was realized through effective electron transfer between the immobilized GOx and SWCNT electronic film at the negative potential value (-0.45 V vs. Ag/AgCl). The SWCNT electronic film-based glucose biosensor exhibited a sensitivity of 98 ㎂/mM·cm2. In addition, the SWCNT electronic film biosensor showed the excellent selectivity (less than 4 % change) against a variety of redox-active interfering substances, such as ascorbic acid, uric acid, dopamine, and acetaminophen, by avoiding co-oxidation of the interfering substances at the negative potential value.
