마이크로채널 내부의 저속 유동장 수치해석 (Numerical Analysis of Low-Speed Flows in Micro-Channels)

  • Low-speed gas flows in micro-channels are investigated using a kinetic theory analysis. The Boltzmann equation simplified by a collision model is solved by means of a finite difference approximation with the discrete ordinate method. Calculations are made for flows in simple micro-channels and a micro-fluidic system consisting of two micro-channels in series. The results are compared well with those from the DSMC method and an analytical solutions to the Wavier-Stokes equations. It is shown that the present method is a useful tool for the modeling of low-speed flows in micro-channels.

  • Accurate prediction of a supersonic missile base drag continues to defy even well-rounded CFD codes. In an effort to address the accuracy and predictability of the base drags, the influence of grid system and competitive turbulence models on the base drag is analyzed. Characteristics of some turbulence models is reviewed through incompressible turbulent flow over a flat plate, and performance for the base drag prediction of several turbulence models such as Baldwin-Loman(B-L), Spalart-Allmaras(S-A), k-$\varepsilon$, k-$\omega$ model is assessed. When compressibility correction is injected into the S-A model, prediction accuracy of the base drag is enhanced. The NSWC wind tunnel test data are utilized for comparison of CFD and semi-empirical codes on the accuracy of base drag predictability: they are about equal, but CFD tends to perform better. It is also found that, as angle of attack of a missile with control fins increases, even the best CFD analysis tool we have lacks the accuracy needed for the base drag prediction.

  • A supersonic base flow is computed to investigate the effect of the eddy viscosity coefficient to the linear ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence models. Slight modifications to the eddy viscosity coefficient, which are based on the realizability condition, are given to the Launder-Sharma turbulence model so that present models satisfy the realizability condition. Numerical results for supersonic base flow show that turbulence models with the weaky-nonlinear eddy viscosity coefficient can lead to reasonable enhancements in the prediction of the velocity and turbulent kinetic energy profiles.

  • Super-cavitating flows around under-water bodies are being studied for drag reduction and dramatic speed increase. In this paper, high speed super-cavitating flow around a two-dimensional symmetric wedge-shaped body were studied using an unsteady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations solver based on a cell-centered finite volume method. To verify the computational method, flow over a hemispherical head-form body was simulated and validated against existing experimental data. Various computational conditions, such as different wedge angles and caviation numbers, were considered for the super-cavitating flow around the wedge-shaped body. Super-cavity begins to form in the low pressure region and propagates along the wedge body. The computed cavity lengths and velocities on the cavity boundary with varying cavitation number were validated by comparing with analytic solution.

  • In the present study, the pressure coefficient of a cubic building model is numerically simulated. Three turbulence models of standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$, RNG ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ and LES are adopted and the results are compared with the available experimental data. From the results, it has been found that RNG ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model and LES turbulence model were shown to predict fairly well the experimental pressure coefficient. In contrast, the results of the standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model showed large discrepancies in pressure coefficient on the side and top surfaces of the cubic building, which limits the applicability of the standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model on wind engineering.

  • 최근 개발된 니켈 초합금 금속폼은 기존의 매연저감장치 신소재로 여겨지고 있다. 금속폼은 세가지 두드러진 특징을 갖고 있다. 첫째, 금속폼은 큰 기공의 다공성 매질로써 매연을 포집하여 축적할 수 있는 용량이 기존 필터에 비해 상대적으로 크며 그로인하여 재생 시 연소 안전성이 두드러진다. 둘째, 복잡하고 굴곡있는 기공 구조와 큰 비표면적은 물질전달 특성을 향상시켜 촉매 적용 시 촉매의 전환성능을 향상시키고 그로 인하여 귀금속 촉매량을 줄일 수 있는 장점이 있다. 셋째, 금속폼은 다양한 기공크기를 가지며, 다양한 조합의 금속폼을 개발할 수 있어 요구 성능에 따른 최적의 필터 설계를 가능케 한다. 이번연구에서는, 금속폼의 필터 성능을 다양한 실험을 통하여 측정 평가하며, 이런 이해를 기반으로 필터로 제작하여 엔진실험벤치에서 그 성능을 검증하였다. 필터의 성능은 수트 포집효율과 그에 따른 필터의 압력강하와 촉매 활성 능력으로 평가되었다. 이러한 실험과 병행하여 금속폼에서의 수트 포집과정을 모델링하고 이를 상용 프로그램인 CFD-ACE+에 추가하여 설계전용 프로그램을 개발하였으며, 엔진실험결과와 비교 검증하였다. 본 논문에서는 금속폼의 높은 매연축적용량과 향상된 물질전달 특성이 어떻게 필터의 귀금속 촉매와 체적을 줄일 수 있는지 제시하고 있다.

  • The characteristics of heat transfer in a two-dimensional channel obstructed by a square rod is investigated by a turbulence model. The computation is made for the six cases of different rod positions between channel walls. To analyze the wall heat transfer, the heat flux of channel walls is set as a constant value and the $k-{\epsilon}-f_{\mu}$ model is employed. Downstream the square rod, the flow recirculation region appear and they are varied by the rod position. The enhancement of the turbulent heat transfer to the wall is induced by the flow instability using a square rod. The averaged heat transfer rate is maximized at a specific rod position. Finally, the effects of square rod on unsteady flows are scrutinized with the frequency analysis.

  • In this study, aerodynamic analyses based on unsteady computational fluid dynamics (CFD) have been conducted for a 2-bladed vertical-axis wind turbine (VAWT) configuration. Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ and SST $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence models are solved for unsteady flow problems. The experiment model of 2-bladed VAWT has been designed and tested in this study. Aerodynamic experiment of the present VAWT model are effectively conducted using the vehicle mounted testing system. The comparison result between the experiment and the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis are presented in order to verify the accuracy of CFD modeling with different turbulent models.
