Using alumina-glass infiltrated material which has been in the spotlight of biomaterials including dental material, appropriate composition of glass infiltrated material mainly depends on the thermal expansion coefficient. To obtain proper compositional glass of suitable thermal expansion coefficient effiiently. a Taguchi analysis was conducted. The influence of alkali oxide and alkali earths oxide, which affect mostly the thermal expansion coefficient of glass infiltrated material, was infiltrated material, the effect having influenced on the thermal expansion coefficient of glass was presented in this order (Na$_2$O≫K$_2$O ≫MgO≒CaO). The effect of Na$_2$O was about eight times as great as the effects of MgO, CaO and $K_2$O was about four times. Among the interaction affects of each variables the interaction affects of $K_2$O-CaO showed most significantly and thermal expansion property of specified composition was predicted by calculating contribution rate on each level of variables and interaction affects.
Purpose: This study provided the basic data for selecting the zirconia blocks by comparing the mechanical properties of the all ceramic crown between the domestic, import, translucent and shade blocks that were used in clinically. Methods: Currently, the most commercial block of five types(one import and two domestic block which is the translucent and shade) were used. It were elucidated by means of three point bending test, hardness test, FE-SEM observations and EDX analysis. The results were analyzed using a one-way ANOVA and Scheffe post hoc test for significant findings. Results: For flexural strength, LT specimen was the highest as 733.1 MPa, followed by JT specimen(712.0 MPa), ZT specimen(646.0 MPa), LS specimen(553.1 MPa), JS specimen(429.0 MPa). One-way ANOVA showed statistically significant difference between groups for flexural strength(p<0.05). For hardness, ZT specimen was the highest as 1556.5 Hv, followed by JT specimen(1540.3 Hv), LT specimen(1512.3 Hv), JS specimen(1472.0 Hv), LS specimen(1353.3 Hv). One-way ANOVA showed statistically significant difference between groups for hardness(p<0.05). Conclusion: Domestic block was higher than import block for flexural strength, and translucent block was higher than shade block for flexural strength. However, all blocks showed clinically acceptable range. There was no significant difference in hardness between domestic and import blocks. And significant difference was observed in translucent and shade blocks.

The patient was a 26-year old female who was not satisfied with the aesthetic approach of her maxillary incisors. The treatment goal throughout the process was to manage the risk and recreate the original and youthful appearance of the smile. The biomechanical risk was managed by providing coverage of the exposed dentin and rebuilding the eroded structures with minimal tooth reduction throughout the treatment. Functional risk and prognosis for this patient were both improved by achieving acceptable function. The patient was satisfied with the full-ceramic restorations and the symmetry, harmony gingival architecture.

he purpose of this study was to compare the fracture resistance of the IPS Empress ceramic crown with 1.0mm width rounded shoulder, which is usually recommended in all ceramic crown, and 0.5mm width chamfer finish lines on the maxillary first premolar. 30 sound maxillary first premolars were selected and then storaged in 5% NaOCl and saline. 15 teeth were performed preparation for each group(1.0mm rounded shoulder, 0.5mm chamfer). After 30 stone dies were made for each group, the IPS Empress ceramic crowns were fabricated and cemented with resin cement(Bistite resin cement, Tokuyama Soda Co. LTD., Japan) on the natural teeth. The cemented crowns were mounted on the positioning jig and the universal testing machine(Zwick Z020, Zwick Co., Germany)was used to measure the fracture strength, with stress loading on the occlusal surface between buccal and lingual cusp. And also, three-dimensional finite element model was used to measure the stress distribution with two types of the finish lines(1.0mm rounded shoulder, 0.5mm chamfer) and two loading conditions(both buccal and lingual cusp inclination, lingual cusp inclination only). The result of the this study were as follows. In the fracture resistance experiment according to the finish line, the mean fracture strength of rounded shoulder(842N) showed higher value than that of the chamfer(590N) (p<0.05). In the three dimensional finite element analysis of all ceramic crown, metal die and natural teeth model did not show any differences in stress distribution between finish lines. Generally, when force was loaded on the occlusal inclination of buccal and lingual cusp, the stress was concentrated on the loading point and the central groove of occlusal surface. When force was loaded only on the occlusal inclination of lingual cusp, the stress was concentrated on the lingual finish line and loading point.
Poor marginal fidelity resulting in a large marginal gap increases plaque accumulation, gingival inflammation and dental caries. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal fit of three different cervical finishing methods of prepared teeth. A stereomicroscope was used to measure the space between the margin of restoration and the finishing line of prepared tooth. The results were statistically analyzed using the ANOVA and Multiple Range Test(Tukey's HSD). The results were as follows : 1. There were no significant differences concerning the types of tooth and positon (P>0.05), whereas the differences were statistically significant in case of cervical finishing methods (P<0.05). 2. There were statistically significant differences between before and after cementation (P<0.05). 3. In comparison according to variable margins after cementation, the gap discrepancies were increased in $130^{\circ}$ shoulder margin, chamfer margin and $90^{\circ}$ shoulder margin in ascending order, and there were significant differences between $90^{\circ}$ shoulder margin and chamfer, $130^{\circ}$ shoulder margin 4. In comparison according to variable margins, the gap discrepancies were increased in chamfer margin, $130^{\circ}$ shoulder margin and $90^{\circ}$ shoulder margin in ascending order, and there were significant differences between $90^{\circ}$ shoulder margin and chamfer, $130^{\circ}$ shoulder margin. 5. This study demonstrated a better marginal fit with all-ceramic crowns fabricated on chamfer and $130^{\circ}$ shoulder margin compared with $90^{\circ}$ shoulder margin.
Statement of problem: At all times people have tried to fabricate tooth restorations using tooth colored materials. Recently, demands for esthetics, even in restorations requiring strength, has brought a revolution to dentistry and increased use of zirconia. The basic color of zirconia is white to ivory. The color can be partially adapted by veneering it with ceramic materials. However, it would be better if the substructure could already be adapted to the basic color shade of neighboring teeth. By adaptation to the basic shade, it can help to reduce the necessary layer thickness of the veneer ceramic to achieve the desired color. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to spectrophotometrically evaluate the influence of shading of zirconia core on the final shade of all-ceramic restorations using the CIE $L^{*}a^{*}b^{*}$ system. Material and methods: Core specimens (n = 20 per group) of Lava Frame Zirconia, KaVo Everest Zirconia, Digident CAD/CAM Zirconia were fabricated at 20 mm in diameter and 0.5 mm in thickness. Halves of each groups were shaded in A3 color. These core specimens were veneered with A3 porcelain of the recommended manufacturer at thickness of 0.5 mm. CIE $L^{*}a^{*}b^{*}$ coordinates were recorded for each specimen with a spectrophotometer (Model CM-2600d, Minolta, Japan) at 0.5 mm, 0.4 mm, 0.3 mm in thickness. Color differences were calculated using the equation ${\Delta}E^{*}=[({\Delta}L^{*})2+({\Delta}a^{*})2+({\Delta}b^{*})2]1/2$. Results: 1. In the case where porcelain layer has a thickness of 0.5 mm, Lava Frame Zirconia and KaVo Everest group did not show clinically perceived color difference, however Digident CAD/CAM Zirconia group showed clinically perceived color difference according to shade allowed on core. 2. When the thickness of porcelain layer decreased from 0.5 mm to 0.4 mm, Lava Frame Zirconia and KaVo Everest group did not show clinically perceived color difference, on the other hand Digident CAD/CAM Zirconia group showed clinically perceived color difference according to shade allowed on core. 3. When the thickness of porcelain layer decreased from 0.5 mm to 0.3 mm, clinically perceived color differences were observed from all three groups. Conclusions: Ziroconia system, which is possible to allow shade on core, are thought to be much more favorable to reproduce natural shade compared to systems that is impossible to give shade. Therefore, clinicians ought to choose adequate system for certain clinical situation by considering above specific character.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the fit of zirconia core using MAD/MAM system comparing to that of conventional metal-ceramic and CAD/CAM system. Materials and methods: Duplicating the prepared resin tooth, 50 improved stone dies were fabricated. These dies are classified as a group of 5 to create the core. The groups were composed of metal-ceramic, $Cercon^{(R)}$, $Ceramill^{(R)}$, $Rainbow^{TM}$, and $Zirkonzhan^{(R)}$. Each core was cemented to stone die, and then, absolute marginal discrepancy was measured with microscope at a magnification of ${\times}50$. Statistical analysis was done with one-way ANOVA test and Tukey's HSD test. Results: The mean absolute marginal discrepancy for metal-ceramic was $51.97{\pm}23.38{\mu}m$, for $Cercon^{(R)}$ was $62.16{\pm}25.88{\mu}m$, for $Ceramill^{(R)}$ was $67.64{\pm}40.38{\mu}m$, for $Rainbow^{TM}$ was $125.07{\pm}42.19{\mu}m$, and for $Zirkonzhan^{(R)}$ was $105{\pm}44.61{\mu}m$. Conclusion: 1. Fit of margin was identified as in the order of metal-ceramic, $Cercon^{(R)}$, $Ceramill^{(R)}$, $Zirkonzhan^{(R)}$, and $Rainbow^{TM}$. 2. Absolute marginal discrepancy of the zirconia core that designed by MAD/MAM system had significant differences in order of $Ceramill^{(R)}$, $Zirkonzhan^{(R)}$, and $Rainbow^{TM}$. 3. The mean absolute marginal discrepancy between $Cercon^{(R)}$ and $Ceramill^{(R)}$ did not show significant differences.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the bond strength of the core-veneer interface in all ceramic systems. Material and Methods: The all ceramic systems tested with their respective veneer were IPS Empress 2 with IPS Eris, IPS e.max Press with IPS e.max Ceram and IPS-e.max ZirCAD with IPS e.max Ceram. Cores (N=36, N=12/group, diameter: 10mm, thickness: 3mm) were fabricated according to the manufacturer's instruction and cleaned with ultrasonic cleaner. The veneer(diameter: 3mm, thickness: 2mm) were condensed in stainless steel mold and fired on to the core materials. After firing, they were again ultrasonically cleaned and embedded in acrylic resin. The specimens were stored in distilled water at $37^{\circ}C$ for 1 week. The specimens were placed in a mounting jig and subjected to shear force in a universal testing machine(Z020, Zwick, Germany). Load was applied at close to the core-veneer interface as possible with crosshead speed of 1.00mm/min until failure. Average shear bond strengths(MPa) were analyzed with a one-way analysis of variance and the Tukey test(${\alpha}=.05$). The failed specimens were examinated by scanning electron microscopy(JSM-6360, JEOL, Japan). The pattern of failure was classified as cohesive in core, cohesive in veneer, mixed or adhesive. Results: The mean shear bond strength($MPa{\pm}SD$) were IPS e.max Press $32.85{\pm}6.75MPa$, IPS Empress 2 $29.30{\pm}6.51MPa$, IPS e.max ZirCAD $28.10{\pm}4.28MPa$. IPS Empress 2, IPS e.max Press, IPS e.max ZirCAD were not significantly different from each others. Scanning electron microscopy examination revealed that adhesive failure did not occur in any all ceramic systems. IPS Empress 2 and IPS e.max Press exhibited cohesive failure in both the core and the veneer. IPS e.max ZirCAD exhibited cohesive failure in veneer and mixed failure.

In-Ceram system is one of contemporary esthetic all ceramic restorations and has relatively high flexural strength. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal fit of In-Ceram crown according to shoulder width and measuring position. In this study, twenty seven In-Ceram crowns devided into three groups, each prepared with shoulder width of 0.6mm, 0.9mm and 1.2mm. All specimens were cemented with glass ionomer cement. After cementation, specimens were measured marginal gap between the margin of the In-Ceram crown and the finishing line of resin master die by using a refrective microscope. Marginal gaps were recorded at the labial, lingual, mesial and distal measuring points on the resin master die. The results of this study were as follows: 1. Mean marginal fits of each group were $81.28{\mu}m$ in 0.6mm shoulder width, $70.78{\mu}m$ in 0.9mm shoulder width and $67.75{\mu}m$ in 1.2mm shoulder width. 2. There was significant difference between group 0.6mm and 0.9mm, 1.2mm.(p<0.05). 3. In comparison of marginal fit according to the measuring points, there was no significant difference.
Statement of problem: Recently, there have been increased esthetic needs for posterior dental restorations. The failure of posterior dental ceramic restoration are possible not only by the characters of the component materials but also by the type of food. Purpose: The research aim was to compare the in vitro fracture resistance of simulated first molar crowns fabricated using 4 dental ceramic systems, full-porcelain-occlusal-surfaced PFG, half-porcelain-occlusal-surfaced PFG, Empress 2, Ice Zirkon and selected Korean foods. Material and methods: Eighty axisymmetric crowns of each system were fabricated to fit a preparation with 1.5- to 2.0-mm occlusal reduction. The center of the occlusal surface on each of 15 specimens per ceramic system was axially loaded to fracture in a Instron 4465, and the maximum load(N) was recorded. Afterwards, selected Korean foods specimens(boiled crab, boiled chicken with bone, boiled beef rib, dried squid, dried anchovy, round candy, walnut shell) were prepared. 15 specimens per each food were placed under the Instron and the maximum fracture loads for them were recorded. The 95% confidence intervals of the characteristic failure load were compared between dental ceramic systems and Korean foods. Afterwards, on the basis of previous results, 14Hz cyclic load was applied on the 4 systems of dental ceramic restorations in MTS. The reults were analyzed by analysis of variance and Post Hoc tests. Results: 95% confidence intervals for mean of fracture load 1. full porcelain occlusal surfaced PFG Crown: 2599.3 to 2809.1 N 2. half porcelain occlusal surfaced PFG Crown: 3689.4 to 3819.8 N 3. Ice Zirkon Crown: 1501.2 to 1867.9 N 4. Empress 2 Crown: 803.2 to 1188.5 N 5. boiled crab: 294.1 to 367.9 N 6. boiled chicken with bone: 357.1 to 408.6 N 7. boiled beef rib: 4077.7 to 4356.0 N 8. dried squid: 147.5 to 190.5 N 9. dried anchovy: 35.6 to 46.5 N 10. round candy: 1900.5 to 2615.8 N 11. walnut shell: 85.7 to 373.1 N under cyclic load(14Hz) in MTS, fracture load and masticatory cycles are: 1. full porcelain occlusal surfaced PFG Crown fractured at 95% confidence intervals of 4796.8-9321.2 cycles under 2224.8 N(round candy)load, no fracture under smaller loads. 2. half porcelain occlusal surfaced PFG Crown fractured at 95% confidence intervals of 881705.1-1143565.7 cycles under 2224.8 N(round candy). no fracture under smaller loads. 3. Ice Zirkon Crown fractured at 95% confidence intervlas of 979993.0-1145773.4 cycles under 382.9 N(boiled chicken with bone). no fracture under smaller loads. 4. Empress 2 Crown fractured at 95% confidence intervals of 564.1-954.7 cycles under 382.9 N(boiled chicken with bone). no fracture under smaller loads. Conclusion: There was a significant difference in fracture resistance between experimental groups. Under single load, Korean foods than can cause fracture to the dental ceramic restorations are boiled beef rib and round candy. Even if there is no fracture under single load, cyclic dynamic load can fracture dental posterior ceramic crowns. Experimental data with 14 Hz dynamic cyclic load are obtained as follows. 1. PFG crown(full porcelain occlusion) was failed after mean 0.03 years under fracture load for round candy(2224.8 N). 2. PFG crown(half porcelain occlusion) was failed after mean 4.1 years under fracture load for round candy(2224.8 N). 3.
