  • In recent years, while the demand for electricity is rapidly increasing, fire accidents due to negligence in management of switchboards. In particular, switchboards for industrial and electrical resource control can cause serious problems. Thus, for the safety management of power switchboard, a secondary response is conducted to control firing when a specific condition value is satisfied, but in this case, it is highly likely that a considerable amount of time has elapsed after firing. In this paper, we propose a method to acquire big data for the development of a switchboard temperature and power control system that can actively respond to the current situation by monitoring and learning the temperature of the switchboard's busbar connection in real time. Specifically, a method for periodically acquiring and managing data such as temperature and power from various scattered sensors is proposed.

  • In a nuclear power plant (NPP), periodic sensor calibrations are required to assure sensors are operating correctly. However, only a few faulty sensors are found to be calibrated. For the safe operation of an NPP and the reduction of unnecessary calibration, on-line calibration monitoring is needed. In this paper, principal component-based Auto-Associative support vector regression (PCSVR) was proposed for the sensor signal validation of the NPP. It utilizes the attractive merits of principal component analysis (PCA) for extracting predominant feature vectors and AASVR because it easily represents complicated processes that are difficult to model with analytical and mechanistic models. With the use of real plant startup data from the Kori Nuclear Power Plant Unit 3, SVR hyperparameters were optimized by the response surface methodology (RSM). Moreover the statistical techniques are integrated with PCSVR for the failure detection. The residuals between the estimated signals and the measured signals are tested by the Shewhart Control Chart, Exponentially Weighted Moving Average (EWMA), Cumulative Sum (CUSUM) and generalized likelihood ratio test (GLRT) to detect whether the sensors are failed or not. This study shows the GLRT can be a candidate for the detection of sensor drift.

  • Time synchronization is important role in a network, especially in Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) which is required for time-critical applications such as surveillance, tracking, data fusion and scheduling. Time synchronization in WSN should meet the other different requirements than the one in other networks because WSN has critical resource constraints, especially power consumption. This paper presents a new time synchronization scheme for WSN, which is energy efficient by reducing communication overhead. Simulation test shows this new scheme has better energy efficiency and performance of accuracy than existing schemes proposed previously.

  • In this paper, we developed DSP(Digital Signal Processor)-based control system to automatically open and close passive filter, which is used to reduce harmonics, according to operating condition of loads. Passive filter control system automatically open and close each branch of filter according to working conditions of loads by sending signals to open and close installation of passive filter after measuring and monitoring voltage, current, harmonics, reactive power, power factor and so on. We verified it's performance by connecting control system with passive filter in the power line using the 100HP D.C motor drive, opening and closing passive filter according to operation condition of motor, and measuring harmonics and reactive power, etc.

  • It is necessary to develop a real-time monitoring system for electric facilities, operating and managing system for the accident prevention of electrical demand facilities anytime, anywhere. In this paper, we propose the implementation of distributing board monitoring system based on Internet of Things(IoT). The proposed system is installed in existing distributing board that it can transmit status information of distributing board and control information through the cloud server and the wireless local area network. The distributing board monitoring system can monitor and control the condition of distributing board by system administrator. The results show that the margin of error was ${\pm}5%$ in performance evaluation.

  • In this paper, PLC which can be installed easily and is stable to transfer datum, is tested for approving its application in a real ship. Internet access service, CCTV monitoring, light control and huge sensor communications are needed for enhancing the convenience and safety of passengers and crew in ships. In order to apply PLC in ships, we surveyed some noises interrupting PLC in ships and investigated the PLC characteristics. The Hannara, a training ship of Korea Maritime University, was used for the test. We measured and analyzed blocking noises using by NI's SCXI-1001. When noises of specific frequency band occurred near the PLC frequency band, PLC transfer capacity was low for mass datum. We developed and verified some methods to apply PLC in a ship under lots of noises.

  • Wireless sensor networks(WSN) technology has various applications such as surveillance and information gathering in the uncontrollable area of human. One of major issues in WSN is the research for reducing the energy consumption and reliability of data. A system with forward error correction(FEC) can provide an objective reliability while using less transmission power than a system without FEC. In this paper, we propose to use LDPC codes of various code rate(0.53, 0.81, 0.91) for FEC for WSN. Also, we considered node-to-node interference in addition to AWGN channel. The proposed system has not only high reliable data transmission at low SNR, but also reduced transmission power usage.

  • We developed a fiber-optic temperature sensor system, with 10 fiber Bragg gratings, for abnormal high-temperature monitoring in power systems. We used Gaussian line-fitting algorithm to compensate the spectrum distortion in the wavelength-scanned Farby-Perot filter demodulation scheme. Compared with highest-peak-detection method, the proposed algorithm substantially reduced measurement errors. The overall measurement error was less than 1[%] compared with the reference thermocouple and the linearity error was 0.37[%].
