  • This study is to find the converging effects of the Complete Sciences Subjects(CSS) in high school before entrance to University on the scores of Basic Nursing Sciences(BNS) and Major Nursing Subjects(MNS) of 111 senior nursing students of one university. Using the SPSS 19.0, t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, multiple and simple linear regression were carried out. The mean scores of the groups that have completed the subjects of Biology I & II, Chemistry I & II were high on Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology. There was a significant difference between the group of completed Biology II and incompleted Biology II on the mean scores of MNS(p<.05). There were positive correlations between the CSS and the scores of BNS and MNS, a moderate correlation between Chemistry II and BNS(r=.303) and a strong correlation between BNS and MNS(r=.796). Explanation rate of CSS on the scores of BNS, and MNS were 18.2%, 8.2% respectively, and on the scores of BNS on MNS was 63.8%. The result of this study can be used in assessing university entrance procedure after repeated study, extended location and more participants, and to use for making pre-school program for the freshmen who didn't CSS.

Base on the path model, satisfaction with biological nursing science showed a direct effect on satisfaction with major nursing subject(${\beta}=.345$), satisfaction with major nursing subject showed a direct effect both on critical thinking disposition(${\beta}=.272$) and satisfaction with major(${\beta}=.277$), critical thinking disposition showed a direct effect both on satisfaction with major(${\beta}=.365$) and clinical competence(${\beta}=.582$), satisfaction with major a direct effect on clinical competence(${\beta}=.228$). In conclusion the biological nursing science satisfaction has eventually improved clinical competence. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and apply various teaching methods that can increase satisfaction with biological nursing science.

  • This study was attempted to provide basic data for the development of the nursing major curriculum and the admission strategy for attracting new students by identifying the perception of the nursing major among freshmen in the nursing department. Participants in this study were 40 freshmen who agreed to participate in the study among freshmen in the department of nursing who completed self-exploration, a required liberal arts course for freshmen opened in the first semester of 2021. Data collection was a study diary written by participants after 15 weeks of class, and the traditional content analysis method suggested by Heieh and Shannon was applied to data analysis. As a result of the study, three themes were derived: 'motivation for entering the nursing major', 'value of the nursing major', and 'obstacles to the nursing major'. Therefore, colleges and departments need to strengthen their entrance examination strategies to develop and conduct field trip programs for experiential departments linked to middle and high schools and It is necessary to solve the difficulties in taking major courses by providing subject and extracurricular programs targeting students who lack basic learning ability.

Data collection was conducted with 228 people enrolled in nursing colleges located in Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province, and proceeded from November 7th to November 16th, 2020. The collected data was analyzed with the SPSS/WIN 22.0 program. The analysis found that the level of major satisfaction was high and that the motivation for major selection and the major commitment were strong. Major satisfaction and motivation for major selection were predicted as factors influencing major commitment. Major satisfaction and major commitment were partially mediated by the motive for major selection, and specifically, they were partially mediated by personal motives. These results provide basic information to improve the undergraduate nursing students' major commitment, and suggests the importance of the process in which nursing is selected as a major.
