We analyzed recyclability of the fuel tanks made from steel or aluminum alloy. For a comparison of the fuel tank recyclability, first we had analyzed the process of disassembly in a vehicle and evaluated its disassemblability. Then we evaluated the recyclability for reuse and withdrawal. The processes were more or less same owing to the similarity of fastening method of fuel tank and components. However, the fuel tank of the aluminum alloy was easier (about 5%) to disassembly than the fuel tank of steel. This could be attributed to the differences in weight of steel and aluminium. On light of the withdrawal and reuse, the fuel tank made up of steel needed to plate with zinc or lead due to its anti-corrosiveness. Hence, it required additional processes. In this paper, we were explaining the results of our on going research on the recyclability of fuel tanks made of steel and aluminum alloys. The differences that we found between the fuel tank made up of the aluminum alloy and steel were in their weight, recyclability, disassemblability, anticorrosive property, cost and productivity.
LCD televisions and monitors use cold cathode fluorescence lamps (CCFLs) to illuminate the screen. Most CCFLs contain mercury and they have to be carefully handled at the end of their lives as per minimum treatment standards under the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directives. CCFLs were carefully separated from mold frames of waste LCD units for primary decontamination of mercury/fluorescent compound mixture using CCFL decontamination system designed and fabricated in the present research. Residual mercury was further removed by employing a pyro-process, where crushed CCFL tubes transferred from primary decontamination process were subject to heat treatment at $550^{\circ}C$ in a box furnace: more than 99% of mercury was removable from waste CCFLs.

Among the byproducts from thermal power plant using coal combustion, fly ash as mineral admixture is widely utilized in concrete manufacturing for its engineering merits. However residuals including bottom ash are usually reclaimed. This study presents an evaluation of engineering properties in cement mortar with pond ash (PA). For this work, two types of pond ash (anthracite and bituminous coal) are selected from two reclamation sites. Cement mortar specimens considering two w/c (0.385 and 0.485) ratios and three replacement ratio of sand (0%, 30%, and 60%) are prepared and their workability, mechanical, and durability performance are evaluated. Anthracite pond ash has high absorption and smooth surface so that it shows reasonable workability, strength development, and durability performance since it has dense pore structure due to smooth surface and sufficient mixing water inside. Reuse of PA is expected to be feasible since PA cement mortar has reasonable engineering performance compared with normal cement mortar.

When it comes environmental preservation and economic development throughout all the industries, it is adopted to regulate carbon dioxide emissions in United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. And we must be responsible for promoting the eco-friendly and sustainable development because of a registration of the Kyoto protocol. Almost all the domestic buildings have many problems that not only waste the resources and architectural energy, but also are not enough to recycling of the waste. So m this study the environment-friendship is estimated through assuming carbon dioxide emissions. And after indicators are derived through surveying the residential satisfaction, it is carefully thought to develop the Smart Component that increase the length of life and the flexibility and improve the comfortable circumstance in buildings.
As the demand for the recycling of industrial by-products increases due to various environmental restrictions including the prohibition of ocean disposal, various studies regarding the recycling of industrial by-products are currently being carried out. One of the industrial by-product, coal ash is produced from thermal power generation; studies on the recycling of fly ash have been actively carried out and it is currently recycled in various fields. In the case of bottom ash, however, only a portion of the total amount generated is primarily processed into a particle size of 2~4mm or less than 2mm to be used for gardening purpose and light weight aggregate and so on. The remaining amount is buried at ash disposal sites. Therefore, various studies are needed to develop measures to use bottom ash. This study aimed at identifying the optimal particle size and mixing ratio of bottom ash to be used as CLSM aggregate. To this end, it evaluated the usability of bottom ash as CLSM aggregate, by investigating the flowability and strength change characteristics of CLSM produced with regard to the mixing ratio of weathered granite soil and bottom ash, particle size of bottom ash to be mixed and soil binder addition rate and conducting a heavy metal leaching test.

The study is carried out to survey the proper management and to propose an eco - friendly separation system through efficient screening and resource recovery of excavated materials containing waste from various excavating fields such as reconstruction of landfill sites for reuse, reclamation of unsanitary landfill and residential land development of waste dumping sites. The current status and screening process and analytical characteristics of the excavated materials containing waste were reviewed. Through the analysis of the samples such as separated combustibles, recyclable soils and residues collected from the on-site visits we were able to understand the characteristics of separated materials and excavated materials containing waste such as calorific value, elementary composition, TOC, foreign material content and LOI. It has been found that elimination of the moisture of excavations, removal of attached soil from the surfaces of the excavated combustibles and the quantitative supply method of the input devices are the main operating factors as essential factors for the optimal separation of excavated materials containing waste. For efficient management and recycling of excavated materials containing, it is necessary to set criteria of ash content in separated combustibles and criteria organic matter content in separated soils.

As the installation of solar panel accelerates, so does the number of solar panels reaching their end-of-life (EOL). However, the EOL solar panels is becoming a concern, as they contain potentially hazardous materials and are not easily recycled. Coping strategies such as effective collection, disposal, and recycling methods will be important to manage the growing number of EOL solar panels in the coming years. Therefore, many studies have focused on the development of EOL solar panel recycling technology. One recycling technology for EOL solar panels applicable to the construction field is the application of extracted tempered glass from EOL solar panels as construction materials. This study summarized the EOL solar panel disassembly technology and evaluated the mechanical properties of mortar using extracted tempered glass as fine aggregate. The results showed that when tempered glass was used as a fine aggregate in mortar, the compressive strength, flexural strength, and macro pores in the 1-3 ㎛ with 200-300 ㎛ range were affected, regardless of the disassembly technology of EOL solar panels. Especially, we found that the mechanical performance of mortar using chemically treated tempered glass was noticeably decreased due to changes in the chemical composition of the extracted tempered glass resulting from the removal of K2O and CuO due to chemical reactions. Meanwhile, it was found that when fly ash was used as a binder, the reduction of mechanical performance could be alleviated.
There are many possibilities that recycled papers adulterate contaminants during the process. The objective of this research was to evaluate safety of paper-based packaging materials for food, especially commercial pizza boxes in Korea. Ultimately, we compared recycled and non-recycled commercial paper packaging materials. This study was based on Korean Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) regulation. PCBs were measured by GC-ECD. Arsenic and lead were analyzed using an ICP-MS. Formaldehyde was determined by LC-MS. Fluorescent materials were detected by UV lamp. The result of this study shows that non-recycled paper packaging materials meets all the tested hygienic specifications for food packaging materials, whereas recycled paper-based paperboard box may be contaminated by fluorescent whitening agent. Though these results need to be further studied, it is recommended to avoid using recycled paper in direct contact with food when used in food packaging.

As an increase in the amount of RAP, there are growing interests in recycling asphalt concrete. In case of using the RAP as recycled asphalt pavement, it tends to be quality deteriorate. Therefore, the amount of RAP using is advised to be limited or has to be used with rejuvenator. In this study, asphalt mixture containing WMRA was analyzed to be used up to 50% for the sake of convenience on the process. As the results of evaluation, there was no significant difference in case of using 30% of RAP in the test of Marshall stability. However, in case of WMRA using up to 50%, it was satisfied criteria by flow value at 34.7. Further, result of toughness test was found that the crack resistance showed 55% higher than using straight asphalt when using WMRA binder up to 50%. According to the results of directly comparing crack resistance through repeated direct tensile test, it was shown that the fatigue crack resistance of WMRA pavement was increased by 263%. Therefore, it was shown that WMRA binder was effective in recycling RAP because WMRA binder could increase the percentage of RAP using up to 50%.
