Efficacy Analysis of Developed Course for Promoting Character Education with Women's University Students (대학교의 인성교육진흥을 위한 교양교과 개발 및 효과성 연구)

  • This research has verified the efficacy of character education course in Liberal Art Curriculum in accordance with the objective of K Women's University of which is the 'mind sharing through mindfulness, SMART human resources development'. Most of the content of character education is organized aiming to promote values of "appreciation". The subjects are experimental group and control group, of which are 229. Research methods were t-test of between groups. The effects of the course have shown that the experimental group students were higher on the level of connectedness sub-scale in Gestalt Contact Boundary Scale than those of the control group students(t=2.323, p = .021). Although the 'character education' course increased connectedness, but it no positive effect on mindfulness skill and self-esteem. This results showed that character education course is effective to promote mind sharing and connectedness in part. It was discussed about a way of further refining course contents and the need to reflect educational philosophy of the K Women's University.

PSYCHOSOCIAL VULNERABILITIES OF CHILD-ADOLESCENT INTERNET ADDICTS (인터넷 중독 소아-청소년의 심리사회적 취약성)

  • This study investigated the psychosocial characteristics of children and adolescents who were addicted to internet. 1107 children and adolescents were administered several self-report inventories assessing internet addiction, internet expectancy, self-control, parent-adolescent communication, parent control of internet, peer relation, and loneliness. Results indicated that internet addicted adolescents had more expectancy for internet, less self-control, more dysfunctional communication with parents, and more withdrawn from peers than non-addicted. To determine relative contributions of these variables, multiple regression was conducted. It was demonstrated that internet expectancy, self-control, dysfunctional parentadolescent communication, and parent control of internet explained adolescent internet addiction.

Parental Childrearing, Behavior, Children's Sibling Relationships and Children's Self-Esteem (양육행동 및 형제관계와 아동의 자존감과의 관계 연구 : - 자존감에 대한 양육행동 및 형제관계의 독립적 기여와 상호작용 효과 -)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate how parental childrearing behavior and children's sibling relationships are related to children's self-esteem. 440 middle class families consisting of two children and their parents were the subjects of this study. The research instruments included a childrearing behavior questionnaire, the Sibling Relationships Questionnaire (Furman & Buhrmester, 1985), and the Self-Perception Profile for Children (Harter, 1985). Analyses of the data included correlation analysis, canonical correlation, regression, stepwise multiple regression, and MANOVA with stepwise discriminant analysis as the follow-up test. The most powerful predictors of children's self-esteem were the Warmth-Acceptance of childrearing behavior and the Warmth-Closeness of sibling relationships. The self-esteem dimension was best predicted by parental childrearing behavior and by children's sibling relationships was Global Self-Worth. Behavioral Conduct was best predicted by the Rejection-Restriction factor of childrearing, and by Conflict (for boys) and Rivalry (for girls) factors of sibling relationships. Children's self-esteem was related more strongly to the Warmth-Acceptance and the Rejection-Restriction of opposite-sex parents. The effects of Permissiveness-Nonintervention were stronger in same-sex parent-child dyads. Parental childrearing behaviors accounted for boy's self-esteem better than girl's with the exception of Behavioral Conduct. Sibling relationships accounted for girl's self-esteem better than boy's. The $2{\times}2$ MANOVA revealed interaction effects of parental childrearing behaviors and sibling relationships on children's self-esteem. Two factors of Rivalry and Conflict in sibling relationships and all three factors of childrearing behaviors showed significant interaction effects, The childrearing factor of Permissiveness-Nonintervention and the sibling factor of Rivalry, which were relatively weak predictors of self-esteem when acting alone, gained power in explaining children's self-esteem within the interactional context.

The Relationships among Motivation, Attitude and Self-esteem of Voluntary Service (대학생의 사회봉사동기, 태도 및 자존감에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to test the motivation, attitude of voluntary service and self-esteem of college students. Therefore it can give the fundamental data of the institutionalization plan and to find the activative methods of voluntary system. This study is based on the questionaire, that was consisted of motivation, attitude of voluntary service and self-esteem. For this study, 223 college students were answered. The data was collected from 10th to 30th September 2002. The results of this study are as follows : 1. $\cdot$The mean score on the motivations scale of voluntary service was $3.221{\pm}0.42$. $\cdot$The mean score on the attitudes scale of voluntary service was $3.28{\pm}0.49$. $\cdot$The mean score on the self-esteem was $2.56{\pm}0.46$. 2. There were significant differences between voluntary service was self motivated(F= 11.12, p= 0.000), the students who will participate very active in voluntary service aftergraduation(F= 11.12, p= 0.000), and the motivations of voluntary service. 3. There were significant differences between the students who will participate very active in voluntary service after graduation (F= 8.23, p= 0.000) and the attitudes of voluntary service. 4. There were significant differences between voluntary service was self motivated (F=4.69, p= 0.004), the students who will participate very active in voluntary service after graduation(F=2.49, p=0.045), the parents who have the experience of voluntary service(F= 5.03, p= 0.026), the students who have the experience of voluntary service before college entrance. 5. There was positively significant correlation between the motivations of voluntary service and the attitudes (r= .693, P=0.01), the attitudes and self-esteem (r= .326, p=0.01), and the motivations of voluntary service and self-esteem (r= .305, p=0.01).

ASSESSMENT OF THE NEEDS OF SELF-CARING RETIREMENT VILLAGE RESIDENTS FOR COMMUNITY SERVICES (RETIREMENT VILLAGE에 거주하는 자가 돌봄이 가능한 노인들의 지역사회 서비스에 대한 욕구 사정)

  • 지역 사회 서비스는 노인들이 질적으로 보다나은 삶을 영위할 수 있도록 돕는 기능을 해야 한다. 적절한 서비스의 공급을 위해서는 지역사회 서비스 욕구 사정의 과정이 우선적으로 요구되어지며, 이에 본 연구는 호주 NSW주 Illawarra지역내의 retirement village에 거주하는 자가 돌봄이 가능한 노인들의 지역사회 서비스에 대한 욕구를 평가하는데 그 목적을 두었다. Illawarra지역내의 여덟개 retirement village에 거주하는 98명의 자가 돌봄이 가능한 노인들을 대상으로 그들의 1) functional status; 2) 지역 사회 서비스에 대한 지식정도; 3) 지역 사회 서비스 사용정도; 4) 지역 사회 서비스 만족도; 5) 잠재적인 지역 사회 서비스 욕구 등에 대한 자가 보고형 설문조사가 이루어졌다. 수집된 자료들은 JMP(for Mackitosh) program으로 통계 처리되었고, computed frequencies가 본 연구의 목표 달성을 위해 주로 사용되었다. 연구 결과를 요약하면 아래와 같다. 1. 평균 연령 76세인 대상자들의 80%이상이 그들의 일상 생활 운영에 다른 사람의 도움을 필요로 하지 않으며 건강상태 또한 양호하다고 자각했다. 2. 90%이상의 대상자들이 지역 사회 서비스를 이용하지 않았다. 3. 70%이상의 대상자가 지역 사회 서비스의 존재에 대해 지각하고 있었다. 4. 60%이상의 대상자가 필요시에는 지역 사회 서비스에 관한 정보를 어렵지 않게 얻을 수 있다고 생각했다. 5. 40%의 대상자가 기존의 지역 사회 서비스에 대한 양과 질에 만족을 나타냈고, 그 외의 대상자들 (60%)은 그 지역 사회 서비스에 대한구체적인 지식이 없다고 보고했다. 6. 25%의 대상자들이 여러 지역 사회 서비스에 관한 관심을 보였다. 결론적으로 대다수의 대상자들은 대부분의 지역 사회 서비스들을 필요로 하지 않았고, 이러한 결과는 현재 자가간호가 가능한 retirement village 거주 노인들에게 당연한 것으로 보여진다. 그러나, 자존감이 강한 노인들에게 서비스 욕구는 자가 돌봄이 건강에 대한 포기정도로 왜곡되어 자각될 가능성이 있는 만큼, 본 연구를 통해 보고된 대상자들의 지역 사회 서비스에 대한 관심도는 고려해 볼만한 가치가 있다고 여겨지며, 이에 노인들의 자존감이 서비스 욕구에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구를 제언하는 바이다.

The relationship among self-esteem, life-satisfaction and stress coping style of dental hygiene students (일부 치위생과 학생들의 스트레스 대처방식이 자존감과 삶의 만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives : This study aimed to determine the effects of stress coping type on self-esteem and satisfaction with life in dental hygiene students. In particular, an attempt is made to determine the effects of sub-factors of stress coping type on self-esteem and satisfaction with life, get a better understanding of self-esteem and satisfaction with life for dental hygiene students, and provide basic data in developing a program that can identify, prevent, and control the problems with stress for dental hygiene students. Methods : This is descriptive correlation research to determine the relations between self-esteem and stress coping type in dental hygiene students. 212 dental hygiene students at colleges in Ulsan Metropolitan City were asked to complete a self-administered questionnaire from June 10 to 20, 2013; then, 209 copies were used in analysis, with the exception of 3 copies which were excluded from recording. Results : Self-esteem and satisfaction with life were positively affected by active stress coping but were negatively affected by passive stress coping. As for such sub-factors of stress coping type as problem-focused coping, pursuit of social support, emotional relief coping, and hopeful thinking, the sub-factors of active coping type also positively affected self-esteem and satisfaction with life. Self-esteem interacted with the sub-factors of stress coping type and satisfaction with life. Conclusions : Since stress coping type was found to be a factor affecting self-esteem and satisfaction with life for students, the results of this study are expected to be used as basic data in developing a program that can help them cope actively with stress.

The Influence of Self-esteem and Optimism on the Self-leadership of Multicultural Family Home-visit Instructors (다문화가족 방문교육지도사의 자존감 및 낙관성이 셀프리더십에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in optimism, self-esteem and self-leadership according to age, monthly income, and teaching experiences of multicultural family home-visit instructors and the influence of optimism and self-esteem on self-leadership. 668 home-visit instructors participated in the online survey from 140 multicultural family support centers in Seoul, 6 metropolitan cities, 9 provinces, and other cities and counties. Data were analyzed through frequence, percentages, Pearson's correlations, One-way ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ post-hoc test, and stepwise multi-regression using SPSS 21.0. The main findings are as follows. First, there were significant differences in optimism and self-esteem according to age and monthly income. Second, there were significant differences in self-leadership according to age and home-visit teaching experiences. Third, the stepwise multiple regression model showed that optimism, self-esteem and the individual variables had an influence on the self-leadership of home-visit instructor's self-expectation. These results suggest that self-esteem and optimism are important precursors of self-leadership and self-leadership training based on self-esteem and optimism is necessary for self-leadership enhancement of home-visit instructors.

A Study on the Repeated Blood-Donation and Health Promotion Behavior, Self-efficacy, and Self-esteem of Blood-donors. (헌혈자의 헌혈 반복성과 건강증진행위, 자기 효능감, 자존감과의 관계)

  • This study was designed to provide basic strategies of nursing intervention in order to keep and obtain healthy, responsible and regular donors by investigating and analyzing relationships of health promotion behavior. self-efficacy and self-esteem of blood-donors. The subjects collected for the research were four hundred and sixty-eight individuals who participated in platelet donation at a university hospital apheresis unit in Seoul. The data for this study were collected between May and June, 2002 using questionnaires. The results were as follows. 1. The proportion of subjects who have not had previous experience of whole blood-donation was $13.7\%$, while the proportion of subjects who have had two times previous experiences was $16.2\%$ and over five times was $30.6\%$. 2. Mean score of health promotion behavior was 2.7 (range 1-4), self-efficacy was 3.8 (range 1-5) and self-esteem was 3.3 (range 1-4), which showed higher than middle. 3. There was positive significant relationship between the number of blood-donation and health promotion behavior as well as the number of blood donation and self-efficacy. 4. Positive significant relationship existed between the number of whole blood-donation and the number of apheresis blood-donation. Therefore, to increase recurrence of blood-donation. it is necessary to establish more effective and organized nursing intervention strategies that can promote the health promotion behavior, self-efficacy and self-esteem of blood-donors.

Psychometric Properties of the Korean Children's Rejection Sensitivity Questionnaire (K-CRSQ) (한국판 아동용 거부민감성질문지의 심리측정적 속성)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the psychometric properties of the Korean Children's Rejection Sensitivity Questionnaire (K-CRSQ). In order to investigate the reliability and validity of the K-CRSQ, the data were collected from 286 elementary students. The results are as follow : Internal consistency and test -retest reliability of the K-CRSQ were .83~.89, .72~.79, respectively. To test the convergent and discriminant validity, participants were separated into two samples and administered the K-CRSQ and ten validity indices. The correlation of K-CRSQ and validity indices scores suggested that the convergent and discriminant validity are high. High rejection sensitivity group revealed high score on intentional attribution, depression, anxiety, and aggression. In contrast, low rejection sensitivity group revealed high score on self-esteem, perceived competence, and social support. The results were compared with previous studies and the implication and limitation were discussed.

Serial Multiple Mediating Effects of Self-Esteem and Cooperation on the Relationship between Perceived Parental Attitudes and Peer Relationships in Children (아동이 지각한 부모양육태도와 또래관계의 관계에서 자아존중감과 협동심의 직렬다중매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the role of self-esteem (SE) and cooperation (CO) in the effect of parental attitudes (PA) as perceived by children on the quality of peer relationships (PR). To this end, the data of 1299 boys and 1278 girls in 4th grade were analyzed using the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey data. The correlation analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, structural equation modeling using phantom variables and bootstrapping were performed by using SPSS and AMOS programs. The results of this study are as follows. First, perceived PA had a significant effect on SE, CO, and PR, SE had a significant effect on CO and PR, and CO had a significant effect on PR. Second, the serial multi-mediating model that assumed that SE and CO mediate the relationship between PA and PR was found to be appropriate. These results suggest that it is important to consider the child's self-esteem and cooperation with parenting attitudes to improve the child's peer relationship. Future research and clinical implications were discussed.
