  • The differential quadrature method(DQM) is applied to computation of eigenvalues of the equations of motion governing the free out-of-plane vibration for circular curved beams including the effects of rotatory inertia and transverse shearing deformation. Fundamental frequencies are calculated for the members with clamped-clamped end conditions and various opening angles. The results are compared with exact solutions or numerical solutions by other methods for cases in which they are available. The DQM provides good accuracy even when only a limited number of grid points is used.

  • The objective of this study is to identify the advantages of composite materials and to investigate the behavior of the anisotropic symmetric laminated cylindrical shell structures. To analyze the anisotropic symmetric laminated cylindrical shell structures, the finite difference technique. that consists of forward, central and backward difference, is introduced. In this study, the degree of freedom consists of three displacements and, especially, two moments except twisting moment. It has the advantage of improving the accuracy for calculating the moments. All four edges are assumed to be simply supported. From the numerical results, it is proved that the finite difference technique can be used efficiently to analyze the anisotropic symmetric laminated cylindrical shells and gives a guide in deciding how to make use of the fiber angle the anisotropic symmetric laminated cylindrical shells.

  • This paper investigates critical loads of the tapered Beck's columns with clamped and spring supports, subjected to a subtangential follower force. The linearly tapered columns with the solid rectangular cross-section is adopted as the column taper. The differential equation governing free vibrations of such Beck's columns is derived using the Bemoulli-Euler beam theory. Both divergence and flutter critical loads are calculated from the load-frequency curves which are obtained by solving the differential equation. The critical loads are presented as functions of various non-dimensional system parameters: the taper type, the subtangential parameter and the spring stiffness.

  • A numerical analysis for large amplitude motions of submerged circular cylinder is presented. The method is based on potential theory and two-dimensional motions in regular harmonic waves are tented as an initial value problem. The fully nonlinear free surface boundary condition is assumed in an inner domain and this solution is matched along an assumed an assumed common boundary to a linear solution in outer domain. Calculations of the large amplitude motion of a submerged circular cylinder are directly simulated in time domain. It is shown that relative motion between the body and fluid particle gives a significant effect on the lift and drift motions.

  • This paper concerns the stress singularity at the interface corner of the viscoelastic adhesive layer bonded between rigid adherends, subjected to a uniform transverse tensile strain. The characteristic equation is derived in the Laplace transformed space, following Williams, and the transformed characteristic equation is inverted analytically into real time space for the viscoelastic model considered here. The order of the singularity is obtained numerically. The time-domain boundary element method is employed to investigate the nature of stresses along the interface. Numerical results show that the order of the singularity increases with time while the free-edge stress intensity factors are relaxed with time.

  • In this paper, the finite element models for composite lattice structures were verified through natural frequency test. Finite element models of composite lattice structure were generated using beam, shell and solid element. Natural frequencies were measured using impact test method under free-boundary condition. The natural frequencies of finite element analysis for shell and solid element showed a good agreement with experimental results. But beam element did not show a good agreement with experimental results, because beam element could not consider the degradation of mechanical properties of non-intersection parts for composite lattice structure.

  • This paper discusses a harmonic response estimation method on the L$\acute{e}$vy plate with two opposite edges simply supported and the other two edges having free boundary conditions. Since the equation of motion of the plate is not self-adjoint, the modes are not orthogonal to each other on the domain. Noting that the L$\acute{e}$vy plate can be expressed using one term sinusoidal function that is orthogonal to other sinusoidal functions, this paper suggested the calculation method that is equivalent to finding a least square error minimization solution of the finite number of algebraic equations. Example problems subjected to a distributed area loading and a distributed line loading are defined and their solutions are provided. The solutions are compared to those of the commercial code, ANSYS. According to the verification results, it is expected that the suggested method will be useful to predict the forced response on the L$\acute{e}$vy plate with the distributed area or line loading conditions.

  • Impact forces are acting on the fore part of a body entering water and those are function o the shape of the fore part and entrance angle. In this paper, impact forces are computed for the flat faced body with arbitrary entrance angle The geometric characteristics of the wetted surface of the body are complicated. The surface is divided into several smooth parts and each of them is represented by a bi-cubic B-spline. The free surface condition, $\phi=0$, is applied at the undisturbed free surface and he boundary value problem is analized by using Green's function.

  • This study deals with the static and dynamic stability analyses of simple tapered columns with constant volume. The crosssections of column taper are the regular polygons whose depths are varied with the parabolic functional fashion. The hingedhinged end constraint is chosen as the boundary condition of the column. The non-dimensional ordinary differential equation governing free vibrations of such column subjected to an axial load is derived and solved numerically. From numerical results, the relationships between natural frequencies and section ratios are obtained, from which the configurations of dynamic optimal shapes of columns and the strongest columns are extracted.
