The purpose of the phenomenological study was to explore the meaning of volunteer activity according to workers' perception. In order to accomplish the purpose of the research, the seven workers with volunteer experiences were asked a question, "What do volunteer activities means to them?" Data was collected through in-depth interview, recoded videotapes. In addition, the data was analyzed by a Colaizzi's content analysis. The findings showed that workers' volunteer activities were identified as 18 themes and 6 categories. The six categories consist of 'initiating an action', 'being close to people in need', 'experiencing the difficulties of the people in need', 'increase of awareness of fellowship', 'increase of stability at work', 'self-growth'. The meaning of workers' volunteer activity was defined as a process to get to know their neighbor within their social boundaries, and to gradually change their life. Additionally, the findings are also expected to help understand worker's volunteer activity, and to promote the quality of human resources in the social welfare areas.

The purpose of this paper is to suggest the implications of volunteering's task design and the volunteer's placement that make the motive-benefit matching from the functional perspective of motivation. For this study, we conducted a multi-regression analysis to examine the impact of the volunteer motivation on task satisfaction and retention will. Results showed that first, volunteers' most important motive for volunteering was social motive, followed by enhancement, value. Secondly, each motive influenced the task satisfaction and retention will of volunteers differentially. The practical implications of these findings were discussed.

This study was inteded to include online social relations and ability use information and communication devices to analyze the elderly's participation in volunteer activities and provide basic data to identify the elderly's participation in volunteer activities. The statistical data of the 2017 National survey of Senior Citizen, only 10,073 people aged 65 or older were sampled out of 10,299 people. The participation rate of volunteering was frequently analyzed, and the difference in participation in volunteer according to the factors was Chi-square analysis and One-way variance analysis. A polynomial regression analysis was conducted to identify the effect factors of participation in volunteering. As a results. 3.9% of older adults are volunteering and 11.5% are experienced in the past. Participation in volunteer activity differed significantly depending on age, education level, economic level, subjective health, body function, ability use information and communication devices, social networks, frequency of face-to-face contact and frequency of non face contact. In the regression analysis, utilization of communication and device, social networking, face to face contact frequency were show to be the effect factors. In order to promote elderly's participation in volunteer activities, consideration of related resources reported in prior studies, social relations, frequency of face-to-face contact and ability to use information and communication devices is considered important.

Objective : This study was aimed to survey the influence of the experience of undergraduates volunteering activities on awareness toward the disabled. Method : 259 students were chosen and structured interview was carried out using by a questionnaire. Result : The followings are the results of this study. First, students with experience of volunteering activities in institutions related to disabled have positive awareness of disabled. Second, they have positive awareness of disabled in some cases such as volunteering activity in university, interesting in new events, volunteering activity for more over a year, and assisting activities. But they have negative awareness of disabled in some cases such as no experience of volunteering activities, interesting in social relationship, and participating administration service. Conclusion : The results of this study would contribute to better volunteering activity system for the awareness toward the disabled.

The purpose of this study is to examine the motivation of elderly people to participate in volunteer activities and to analyze the effect of participation motivation on satisfaction with volunteer activities of them. The 297 questionnaires which were collected from persons over 60 years old who were doing voluntary service activity in welfare center for the aged, Silver police in Goyang and Paju city. The frequency, factor and regression analysis were used for the research. The results are as follows: First, the motivations to participate in volunteer activities had four factors: self-realization, social activities, social responsibility, and personal achievements, and these factors had positive effect on satisfaction with volunteer activities. Second, the motivation to participation in volunteer activities and the degree of satisfaction with them were found to be different in accordance with age, education, income, religion and health.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of the volunteer's job characteristics in university student on their volunteering satisfaction and continuance will. Based on Hackman and Oldham's theory of core job characteristics, this study analyzed 261 university students in Gangwon-do by survey. The results of this study are summarized as follows: The volunteering participation ratio of university student is 71.6%. volunteer's job characteristics, volunteering satisfaction and continuance will is showed lower level. And skill variety, task identity and feedback among Hackman and Oldham's 5 core job characteristics show positive influence on volunteering satisfaction, and skill variety, task indentity, task significance and feedback show positive influence on continuance will. As a result, volunteer's satisfaction and continuance will depended on the job characteristics. Therefore, to assure volunteer's satisfaction and continuance will, redesign for volunteer's job characteristics.

The purpose of this study to provide implications for improvement of Korean voluntary sector, by analyzing of program managers' subjective evaluation of voluntary program management and of their view of the needs for outside supports. For this, researchers selected 600 agencies, which are found to have a staff in charge of voluntary programs, and sent a questionnaire by mail. Those agencies are consisted of the following three. areas: social services, civil movement, public sector. The response rate was 65%, and researchers analyzed 382 respondents out of 391, besides those who did not complete the form in full. One of the results was that program managers' subjective evaluation score of overall voluntary program management was 51 points in the perfect score of 100 points. The voluntary program management was consisted of the following six areas: recruiting, job placement, public relations, education(training), program development, and. information system Specifically, program development and information system appeared to be worse than the other areas, and this fact was true in all three types of agencies of social services, civil movements, and public sector. Moreover, program managers in public sector showed that outside supports for voluntary programs (or activities) was more desperately required. Based on the results, researchers concluded that, toward the improvement of voluntary programs, professionalization as well as legal supporting system, networking, and national supporting institution were required.

Using a national survey data conducted by the Beautiful Foundation, this study attempts to examine the bilateral relationships between philanthropic effort and social trust and between volunteering effort and social trust by using simultaneous equation model. This study also attempts to examine the socialization effect and intergenerational effect of philanthropy and volunteering in family, school, and community. This study found that both philanthropic effort and volunteering effort have a bilateral relationship with social trust. The bilateral relationship between giving and volunteering and social trust suggests that not only can social trust affect the increase of giving and volunteering but giving and volunteering can also influence social trust. Thus, by strengthening trust and facilitating giving and volunteering, we can construct and promote culture of sharing in our society. On the other hand, in the analysis on individual's educational experience in giving and volunteering during school years and individual's family experience (parental practice) in giving and volunteering during school years, it was found that family experience was statistically significant on philanthropic effort and volunteering effort. The result suggests that considering the validity of intergenerational effect in giving and volunteering, it is strategically vital for our society to facilitate and promote family practice in giving and volunteering throughout diverse programs and social marketing. Although this study has a limitation due to the limitedness of the original data, it made a significant contribution to advancing knowledge on the relationship between giving and volunteering and social trust by using elaborate analysis methods. This study emphasizes the necessity of continuous research; more advanced and systematic study based on a more elaborate model and solid data such panel data should be continued for a better understanding of philanthropic and volunteering behavior that can be an important soil for the development of nonprofit human service organizations. Finally, based on the results of the study, this study discusses research directions and practical implications to deepen and broaden the culture of sharing in Korea.

The purpose of this study is to analyze motivations, benefits, and satisfactions of the college student volunteers. We carry out the pre-to-post survey with 615 college student volunteers (male 245, female 367) who have participated in the mobile education program for the elderly funded by a Telecom. The instruments consist of VFI (Volunteer Functions Inventory) developed by Clary & Snyder (1999), including 30 items for motivations, 12 items for achievements, and 5 items for satisfactions of volunteering. The items for motivations and achievements are comprised of 6 subcategories: career, value, understanding, protective, enhancement, and social. The results of this study are as follows: (1) Enhancement motivation is the highest, followed by understanding, value, career, protective, and social motivation. (2) Social benefit is the highest, followed enhancement, career, understanding, value, protective benefit. (3) The difference between motivation and benefit in social category is the largest, followed by career, enhancement, value, protective, and understanding category. While benefit is higher than motivation in all other categories, motivation is higher than benefit just in value category. (4) High motivation-high benefit, high motivation-low benefit, low motivation-high benefit, and low motivation-low benefit groups are dichotomized by the median of each motivation and benefit. In all six categories, high motivation-high benefit group shows the highest satisfaction, but low motivation-low benefit group shows the lowest. In short, benefit shows stronger correlation with satisfaction than motivation does. Finally, we suggest several implications for future research and policy of college students' volunteering based on these results.
