This study aims to investigate the effects of flipped learning applied to home economics education on improving middle school students' academic engagement, self-directed learning ability and social interaction. The subjects of this study were 129 third-grade students in middle school. To verify the effects of flipped learning adequately, 129 middle school students divided into two groups have participated in the study over a course of nine weeks. One group was taught in the traditional instructed learning method while the other one in the flipped learning methods. The two groups were taught in 13 sessions in total once or twice a week, and each session took 45 minutes. For pretest and post test, the questionnaire consisting of academic engagement scale, self-directed learning scale and social interaction scale were used. To analyze data, ANCOVA was used to examine significant differences between two groups. The main results of this study were the following : First, students who participated in flipped learning are more improved than those who participate in instructed learning in academic engagement. Second, students who joined in flipped learning are much more improved than those who joined in instructed learning in self-directed learning ability. Third, students who join in flipped learning were much more improved than those who joined in instructed learning in social interaction.
This study aimed to explore the affective characteristics of primary and middle school students in mathematics and to analyze the relationship between the affective characteristics and initiative in mathematics learning. For the purpose of this study, a survey was conducted for students in a primary and a middle school in Incheon area. This study explores how to implement a learning experience-based professionalism program for a medical students and evaluates its program through effectiveness and usability test. This study aims to provide practical implications for experience-based learning in an undergraduate level. Seventy four first-year medical students enrolled in PDS1(Patient-Doctor-Society 1): professionalism, one-week block (30 hours), one-credit program based on a experience-based learning model. All of the students were given six learning themes and learning resources and supporting tools, and conducted stepwise learning activities; preparation, organization, sharing, reflection and evaluation of experiences. The effectiveness of learning was evaluated by comparing the pre and post results of student's self-assessment on 24 questionnaire items about professionalism. After the course, the students and instructors conducted a usability evaluation of the program through questionnaires or group interviews. Learners' self-assessment results of professionalism such as leadership, self-directed learning, professional attitude, and social accountability all showed significant differences between the pre- and post-test. Satisfaction of the program was distributed to 3.58~3.78 according to items. Instructors and learner interviews confirmed practical usability throughout the course design, implementation and students evaluation. The results of the study showed the feasibility of implementing learning experience-based professionalism program in medical school. This study provides practical implications to develope and evaluate the learning experience-based professionalism program in medical education.

Digital textbooks enable learning that is appropriate to the characteristics and level of learners through various interactions. The purpose of this study was to develop an instruction model that can more effectively use digital textbooks in elementary science classes and to verify its effectiveness. The results were as follows. The instruction model for helping learners complete their learning by using digital textbooks needs to receive diagnostic assessment and feedback on entry behavior, to build a self-directed learning environment, and to interact with teachers, students, and digital textbooks as scaffolding. In this study, we developed an instruction model using digital textbooks reflecting these characteristic. The instructional model consists of preparation, practice and solidity step. In the preparation step, the learner performs a diagnostic evaluation using digital textbooks. Based on the results, feedback provided at each level can complement the entry behavior and maintain interest in learning activities. In the practice step, self-directed learning is implemented using diverse functions of digital textbooks and various types of data. In the solidity step, learners can internalize the learning contents by reviewing video clips which are provided by teachers, performing problem-solving activities, and accessing outcomes accumulated by learners in the community online. In order to verify the effectiveness of this model, we selected the "Weather and our Life" unit. This experiment was conducted using 101 students in the 5th grade in B Elementary School in Gwangju Metropolitan City. In the experimental group, 50 students learned using a smart device that embodies digital textbooks applied with the instruction model. In the comparative group, 51 students were taught using the paper textbooks. The results were as follows. First, there was a significant effect on the improvement of the learning achievement in the experimental group with low academic ability compared with the comparative group with low academic ability. Second, there was a significant effect on self-directed learning attitude in the experimental group. Third, in the experimental group, the number of interactions with the learner, teacher, and digital textbook was higher than the comparative group. In conclusion, the digital textbooks based on the instruction model in elementary science classes developed in this study helped to improve learners' learning achievement and self-directed learning attitudes.
