  • This study was conducted to check critical thinking disposition, academic self-efficacy, and self-directed learning ability, and to understand the effect on self-directed learning ability for nursing students. Data were collected from 268 nursing students in the 3rd and 4th grades of two universities. As a result of the study, it was found that there was a significant positive correlation between critical thinking disposition, academic self-efficacy, and self-directed learning ability of nursing students. The factors affecting the self-directed learning ability of nursing students were critical thinking disposition, academic self-efficacy, major satisfaction, and personality disposition, which accounted for 68% of self-directed learning ability. Therefore, in order to improve self-directed learning ability, it will be improved if the critical thinking disposition can be improved through the curriculum, and academic self-efficacy and major satisfaction are increased by applying various teaching and learning methods and programs.

  • The purpose of the present study was to examine the mediating effect of self-concealment on the relationship between self-critical perfectionism and disordered eating behavior. Toward this aim, 348 participants responded to the measures of self-critical perfectionism, self-concealment and disordered eating behavior. Correlation analysis revealed that self-critical perfectionism was positively correlated with self-concealment and disordered eating behavior. In addition, self-concealment was positively correlated with disordered eating behavior. Structural equations analysis found that the relationship between self-critical perfectionism and disordered eating behavior had a significant partial mediating effect on self-concealment, meaning that self-critical perfectionism increased disordered eating behavior through high levels of self-concealment. This finding suggests that individuals who place high standards on themselves, and feature fear of negative evaluation from others, are at greater risk for disordered eating behavior. Based on this finding, we discussed suggestions for future research and clinical implications.

  • According to Kant, morality is an institution that preserves and promotes humanity. However, some pathologies can be found in morality. Nietzsche is the one who severely criticized pathologies of morality, especially in terms of the phenomenon of "self-deception". Those who support Kantian tradition, can also learn from Nietzsche's criticism. But they regard "respect" as the fundamental moral attitude. This is different from Nietzsche's "pathos of distance", which is based on disrespect and contempt.

  • This study examined the effects of self-critical perfectionism on organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) and the moderating effects of gender in the relationship to understand deeply the dilemmatic situation resulting from OCB at the individual level. In other words, based on the conservation of resources theory, this study examined how self-critical perfectionism influences the OCB and how gender moderates the relationship between self-critical perfectionism and OCB. More specifically, this study predicts that self-perfectionism will be negatively related to OCB. Furthermore, this negative relationship between self-critical perfectionism and OCB will be strengthened in men compared to women. To test these hypotheses, the supervisor-subordinate survey was conducted, and 150 dyad data were analyzed. The analytical results of HLM (Hierarchical Linear Modeling) showed that self-critical perfectionism negatively influenced the OCB, and this negative effect was strengthened in men compared to women. This paper suggests implications and limitations for the literature on OCB.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of Simulation as a Problem-Based Learning (S-PBL) on critical thinking disposition, self-efficacy, and learning attitude and to compare an ordinary least square and a quantile regression method in impacting factors on critical thinking disposition. 143 students from six classes were randomly selected from a total of ten fundamental classes were assigned 66 in the control group and 77 in the experimental group. The results were that the experimental group received S-PBL and improved their critical thinking disposition and self-efficacy compared to the traditional learning method. In ordinary least square, affecting factors on critical thinking were the learning method and self-efficacy and these variables explained 41.0% in the critical thinking disposition. The results of the quantile regression method showed that affecting factors of critical thinking disposition were learning attitude of 0.1 quantile to 0.7 quantile and self-efficacy of all quantiles, and learning attitude of 0.4, 0.6, and 0.7 quantiles. Conclusion: The S-PBL is an effective method for nursing students who have low critical thinking disposition score to increase critical thinking disposition. And instructors can actively use S-PBL to enhance critical thinking disposition as well as self-efficacy in class.

  • This study aimed to examine a multiple mediator model in which stresses affect self-criticism. The self-criticism, in turn seemed to affect the feelings of loneliness, and this had an effect on over 65 years living alone. Furthermore, whether social support had any moderating effects in the pathway from the loneliness to suicidal ideation on our pass model were also investigated. Data were collected from 572 samples of persons 65 years of age and older living alone in Seoul. For the analyses of the mediating effects and moderating effects, structural equation modeling was used. The results were as follows. First, the pass model was identified to fit the observed data. This mean that self-criticism increased as stress rises, the increased levels of self-criticism increased loneliness, and the increased levels of loneliness increased the levels of suicidal ideation. Second, social support moderated the relation between loneliness and suicidal ideation on our model. These results suggested that interventions which deal with loneliness and suicidal ideation were needed, in order to reduce suicidal ideation caused by the stress. These imply, additionally, that when social workers try to reduce the suicidal ideation, they should consider the levels of social support at work as influences.
