This study investigated foreign tourists' Neo-Han Ryu related trip behaviors based on their psychological involvement, belief, and attitude toward Neo-Han Ryu. A self-administered on-site survey was conducted in January 2010. Three distinctive clusters were identified from cluster analysis. These three segment show sharp contrast in terms of their psychological involvement, attitude and belief about Neo-Han Ryu and thus differ from each other with respect to their behaviors, including satisfaction, intention to revisit, recommendation, and trip expenditure. The results clearly indicate that the segment with a high Neo-Han Ryu involvement reported stronger intention to revisit and recommendation to others compared to the less involved segments. The findings provides important implications to the marketers regarding how to utilize Neo-Han Ryu to expand Korean inbound market and how to select target markets.

  • This study sought to verify the shopping values that tourists pursue by purchasing at travel destinations based on tourists' motivation and identify the effects of these values on the types of fashion items preferred by tourists. Furthermore, this study verified the tourist shopping behavior of three Asian countries-Korea, China, and Japan-from a cross-cultural perspective. To obtain a sample that represents tourist shoppers in each country, a survey was conducted on adult men and women in their 20s to 60s, and 986 subjects were collected: 300 Koreans, 385 Chinese, and 301 Japanese. Factor analysis, structural equation modeling, and multigroup SEM were performed on the collected data using SPSS Statistics and AMOS. Based on escaping-seeking theory, tourist intentions were divided into escaping and seeking motivations, and tourist shopping values were divided into functional, emotional, and social. The shopping items were divided into materials and experiential goods to understand the difference between the types preferred by tourists according to the perceived value. In addition, differences in tourist shopping behaviors according to the three nationalities were identified. The findings illustrate that the escaping motive affects emotional and social values, whereas the seeking motive affects all three. Moreover, it was confirmed that functional and emotional values affect preference for material and experiential goods, but social value only affects preference for material goods. For the cross-cultural study, differences in tourist shopping behavior according to nationality were identified.

First, the brand personality of Korean food was deduced into the following five levels: sincerity, ruggedness, competence, sophistication, and excitement. As a result of stereotyping based on the above, it was classified into three groups involving an excitement pursuing group (18.7%), a sophistication pursuing group (59.7%), and a competence sincerity pursuing group (21.6%). Second, it was found that there was a significant difference in the demographic characteristics and Korean food consumption behavior between segmented groups. Third, there was a significant difference also in satisfaction with and loyalty to Korean food between segmented groups. Specifically, competence and sincerity pursuing groups were discovered to exhibit the highest satisfaction and loyalty when compared with any other of the groups.
