The Effect of Long-term Treatment with Clozapine on Cognitive Functions in Chronic Schizophrenic Patients (만성 정신분열증 환자의 인지기능에 미치는 Clozapine 장기치료의 효과)

  • It is not known whether negative symptoms and cognitive functions are dissociable or improvements in symptoms are reflected in improvements in cognitive functions in chronic schizophrenic patients. We administered clozapine to evaluate its effect on cognitive functions in chronic schizophrenic patients and to show correlations between improvement in psychotic symptoms and in cognitive functions. Neuropsychological tests such as Wisconsin Card Sorting Test, Digit Span test and Judgment of Line Orientation Test were applied to 16 chronic schizophrenic patients at baseline and after 9 months of treatment with clozapine. Using BPRS we assessed psychopathology before initiation of clozapine and at 9 months. Clozapine improved both positive and negative symptoms in chronic schizophrenic patients significantly. After nine months of clozapine treatment, significant improvements occurred in attention, short-term memory and visual perception ability. And interestingly we noted the trend of improvement in executive functions even though they were not statistical significant. Any significant correlations between the clinical improvement and change in congnitive functions were not observed. Long-term treatment with clozapine improved parts of cognitive functions of chronic schizophrenics. The results of the study suggest that deficits in simple cognitive functions as well as psychotic symptoms are improved after 3 month period of short-term treatment, but executive functions requiring more sophisticated processing of information could be improved after more than 9 months of long-term treatment.

A Study on the Effect of Virtual Reality Intervention on Cognitive Function in Individuals With Stroke Through Meta-analysis (메타분석을 통한 뇌졸중 환자의 인지기능에 대한 가상현실 중재 효과 연구)

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to verify the effect of virtual reality interventions (VRIs) on cognitive function in individuals with stroke through a systematic literature review and meta-analysis. Methods : We reviewed randomized controlled trials (RCTs) the last 10 years using academic databases. PubMed, MEDLINE, and CINAHL were used for international studies, and DBpia, KISS, Kyoboscholar, and e-article were used for Korean studies. For the quantitative meta-analysis, subgroups of outcomes were classified into general cognitive function (G-CF), attention and memory (A&M), and executive function (EF). Results : Nine RCTs were analyzed. The total number of participants was 271 (140 in the experimental group). The effect size (Cohen's d) was estimated using a random effects model. The effect sizes of the outcome subgroups of were as follows: small to medium for G-CF (d=0.422; 95% CI: 0.101~0.742; p=0.010), small for A&M (d=0.249; 95% CI: -0.107~0.605; p=0.170), and medium for EF (d=0.666; 95% CI: 0.136~1.195; p=0.014). Conclusion : Considering the various stimuli provided by the virtual environment and the results from available research, virtual reality should be applied to interventions for integrated cognitive functions. In addition, it would be appropriate to be used as an additional intervention to traditional cognitive rehabilitation for stroke.

Development of a serious game to assess attention for children (아동의 주의력 측정을 위한 기능성 게임의 개발과 검증)

  • The present study investigated the validity of a serious game named 'Draw Ttoring' developed for accessment of children's attention and tried to provide the basic information about it. To this goal, we tested it to 284 elementary school students in measuring various behavior data(reaction time, total playing time, correct rate, discrepancy between type of TMT). Futhermore, the behavior data was compared with academic achievement to see the external validity. In results, 'Draw Ttoring' showed various behavior data and correlation with academic achievement. In Type A of TMT, total time and reaction time had a correlation with academic achievement, while, in Type B of TMT, total time and correct rate did. Mental flexibility calculated by the discrepancy between Type A and Type B showed also the positive correlation with academic achievement. These results showed that the serious game named 'Draw Ttoring' can provide more various information about children attention and these can't be observed by traditional paper pencil test. Finally, serious game can provide an good alternative method to access children's cognition.

A Study on Relationships Between Nutritional Status and Psychological Functionings of Elementary School Children in Seoul (영양상태와 인지 및 인성 기능과의 상관성에 관한 연구-국민학교 아동을 대상으로-)

  • The relationships between nutritional status and psychological functionings in elementart school children were studied using dietary survey, physical and biochemical examinations and psychological measures of both cognitive and personality traits. The results obtained are as follows: (1) Performance of Y school (higher economic class) children on the tests of cognitive functionings, was generally higher than that of B school(lower economic class) children. The means of all anthropornetric measurements were also higher in Y than B school children. (2) Nutrient intakes were found to be positvely correlated with the psychological funtionings of the children to the varing degrees depending on the variables tested. However, the correlations between the physical measures and psychological functionings were low. (3) Most nutrient variables showed positive correlations with body size. (4) The functionings of both cognitive and personality traits are of utmost importance reflecting the positive effects of balanced diet on behavior.

  • To investigate whether BF-7, extracted from Bombyx mori, improved learning and memory of ordinary people, K-WAIS (Korean version of Wechsler adult intelligence scale) was performed in 4 normal students. Treatment with 400 mg of BF-7 increased mean IQ from 103 to 114. To know how BF-7 plays such a positive role, we measured the blood flow to brain, especially for the area concerned with learning and memory, with Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography(SPECT). Our result showed that the blood flow to parahippocampal gyrus and medial temporal area was increased. Also, our results showed the image representing the increase of blood supply in this area. So, our results suggest that BF-7 effectively help to use brain concerning with learning and memory.

  • 본 논문은 인지 및 행동 장애 재활 시스템을 구현하기 위하여 동영상인식 기반의CAMSHIFT 알고리즘을 적용시켰다. 주의력과 반응 시간을 측정하는 인지 장애 재활 시스템이 개발되었고 환자의 주의 집중력과 손 움직임의 조절력을 측정하고 시 지각 운동 능력을 측정하는 행동 장애 재활 시스템이 개발되었다. 실험은 중앙대학교 의료원 재활 의학과에서 실시하여 측정되었다. 본 논문에서 개발한 시스템은 훈련 과정을 객관적인 측정량과 오랫동안 연습할 수 있는 동기를 제공해 줌으로써 전통적인 치료법에 비해 흥미롭고 유용한 도구가 될 수 있음을 환자를 치료하는 치료사를 대상으로 PSS CogRehab 시스템과 비교하는 설문 조사를 통하여 증명한다.

  • 플리커란 형광등의 광 출력 변동폭이 큼으로 인해 인간의 눈과 뇌로 이루어진 감각시스템이 불유쾌한 감각을 인지하는 현상이다. 이러한 플리커 현상에 대한 저감 및 감소 대책이 미흡한 실정이며, 인간의 인지 능력 향상을 위해 플리커 문제 해결방안에 대한 연구 수행이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 플리커를 감소시키기 위한 방법으로 정전력 단권 변압기 회로를 이용한 안정기 적용 방법을 제시하였다. 이 방법은 형상시스템의 전압원이 가변되더라도 형광등에 인가되는 전압을 허용범위 내에서 제어함으로 감소시킬 수 있다. 플리커 현상을 감소시키기 위하여 정전력 단권 변압기 회로를 이용한 안정기 적용법과, 전자식 안정기의 적용법을 제시하였으며, 본 연구에서 제시한 방법을 사용한다면 허용 한계 및 그 이하로 감소시킬 수 있을 것이며, 이를 이용한 장치를 사용하는 곳에서는 인간의 인지 능력을 향상 시킬 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

  • 치매환자는 인지기능 중 기억력이 가장 먼저 저하된 후 동시다발적으로 인지기능 저하를 보인다. 인지기능의 재활을 위해 다양한 방법들이 연구되고 있으며 콘텐츠도 개발되고 있다. 치매환자의 인지기능은 지속적인 재활이 중요하며 누구든 쉽게 접근할 할 수 있어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제해결을 제안하기 위해 스마트블록을 활용한 치매환자의 인지재활 콘텐츠를 개발하였다.

  • 치매(dementia)는 라틴에게서 유래된 말로서 '정신이 없어진 것' 이라는 의미를 갖고 있다. 태어날 때부터 지적 능력이 모자라는 경우를 정신지체(mental retardation)라고 부르는 반면, 치매는 후천적인 뇌질환이다. 즉, 정상적으로 생활해 오던 사함이 후천적인 뇌 손상으로 인하여 기억력, 언어능력, 방향감각, 판단력 등의 인지기능을 잃어가는 것이다. 또한 이런 인지 기능 장애가 심각하여 일상생활에 상당한 지장이 나타날 때 치매라고 한다.

  • 높은 보안성을 요구하는 어떠한 환경에서는 인간의 기억력을 고려한다면 문자열 패스워드는 사용자의 인증을 위해서 적합하지 않을 수 있다. 이 글에서는 기존의 문자열 패스워드가 갖는 문제점을 살펴보고 이를 해결하기 위한 제시되었던, 인지(認知) 및 역할(役割) 기반의 사용자 인증 기법들에 대해서 살펴본다.
