  • This study examines the image management behavior according to self-monitoring, self-objectification of profile-based SNS users. Questionnaires were administered to 313 SNS users including both men and women in their 20s to 30s. The SPSS 25.0 package was utilized for data analysis, which included frequency analysis, factor analysis, Cronbach's ?, t-test, and regression analysis. The study analyzed self-monitoring in 2 groups (high, low), self-objectification for 2 factors (body surveillance, body shame), and image management behavior for 5 factors (fashion oriented, instrumentality, conformity, ostentation, interpersonal disposition). The results revealed: first, self-monitoring groups exhibited significant differences in self-objectification. The higher self-monitoring group was more influenced by body surveillance and body shame compared to the low self-monitoring group. Second, self-objectification had a positive influence on all the factors of image management behavior. Especially, body surveillance demonstrated a high influence on instrumentality and body shame showed a high influence on ostentation. Third, the self-monitoring groups showed significant differences in all the factors of image management behavior. The higher self-monitoring group demonstrated more influence of image management behavior compared to the low self-monitoring group. These results provide useful information in understanding the influence of social media on users' psychological attitude and consciousness toward their body and image management behavior.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how the types of perceived brand image related to the main concept building brand equity affect 'brand preference' and 'behavioral intentions'. The perceived brand image is set as the brand image type perceived by the consumer from the image pursued by the corporate brand, while in addition to brand preference, behavioral intentions are set as purchase intention and recommendation intention for the result variables. The result shows that the types of perceived brand image were extracted as 'factor 1(challenge spirit)' and factor 2(reliability) and through the cluster analysis 3 groups under each type were identified. Also, a significant difference between the influence of each type of perceived brand image on 'brand preference', 'purchase intention' and 'recommend intention' was indicated. In addition, the differences of perceived brand image types were found to be higher in order of 'challenge spirit type', 'reliability type', 'integrated type'. The empirical implementation of this study lies in the fact that it classifies the concept of brand image not as a broad theoretical model, but as a model directly related to real consumer perception, and that it gives practical suggestion for brand image management related to advertising.

  • Images have been substantially searched and used due to not only the advanced internet and digital technologies but the characteristics of a younger generation. The purpose of this study aims to discuss the ways on expanding the access points to images by analyzing the needs of users in context of everyday life. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, 105 questions of image seeking in NAVER, which is one of social Q&A services in Korea, were analyzed. For the analysis, a two-dimensional framework with image uses and image attributes were utilized. The findings of this study demonstrate that considerable use purposes on data oriented pole, such as information processing, information dissemination and learning are identified. On the other hand, image attributes from the needs of image show that non-visual aspects including contextual attributes are recognized substantially in addition to the traditional semantic attributes.

  • This study establishes public self-consciousness, sociocultural attitudes toward appearance, and objectified body consciousness as causal variables to identify their direct or indirect effects. This study is an aggregate analysis of existing studies that reveals the relations of how these factors turn to be the image management behaviors. A survey was conducted on 962 women from the ages of 20 to 59 who live in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk areas. The data analysis was performed through programs such as AMOS 16.0 and SPSS 18.0 for Windows. The findings are as follows: first, public self-consciousness had a direct effect on the sociocultural attitudes toward appearance and on objectified body consciousness, whereas it affected image management behaviors directly or indirectly. This means that as women become aware of others' attention, they recognize the social importance of appearance, internalize ideal social standards, and observe and evaluate their own bodies from a third person's viewpoint regarding the standards for a body required by society; in addition, these procedures lead them to manage their image behaviors. Second, the sociocultural attitudes toward appearance had a direct influence on objectified body consciousness; however, they had an indirect effect on image management behaviors. This demonstrates that body consciousness plays a role as a mediator between the sociocultural attitudes toward appearance and the image management behaviors. Third, it appeared that objectified body consciousness directly affected image management behaviors. Objectified body consciousness was identified as a causal variable that exerts immediate influence on image management behaviors where the more objectified body consciousness women objectified themselves as the body standards that created further image management behaviors.

  • This study examines the significant relations in clothing behavior according to perceptual body image and appearance management behavior. The sampling method was a convenient sampling of 190 male and 160 female students in Daejeon. The survey was conducted from June to July 2008. The instruments consisted of perceptual body image (Silhouette Task), appearance management behavior (need for plastic surgery and appearance management in ordinary times) and clothing behavior (interest in clothing and fashion, along with conformity and exhibition). The data were analyzed using the frequency analysis, $Cronbach'{\alpha}$, factor analysis, t-test, and variance analysis. The subjects with normal body size perceptions had a strong need for plastic surgery, revealed more appearance management behavior, and had a high interest in clothing. The subjects who were dissatisfied with body apperance showed high conformity to clothing. The subjects who dissatisfied to their too fat body had high needs for plastic surgery and the subjects dissatisfied with a too thin body type did less appearance management in ordinary times. The subjects who had a high need for plastic surgery performed more appearance management, had a high interest in clothing and fashion, showed a high conformity to clothing, and exhibited a high exhibition of clothing. The subjects who had more appearance management in ordinary times had a high interest in clothing and fashion and showed a high conformity and exhibition of clothing.
