Reflection and perspective of the geomorphology in Korea (한국 지형학의 50년 회고와 전망)

  • In Korea, modern geomorphology has developed as one of main subjects in geography, such as in Europe. Geomorphology is one of the most advanced specialties in the geography dicipline, since foundation of Korean Geographical Society in 1945. Untill 1960's study, first generation of the Korean geomorphologists trained the younger ones, together with energetic research activities. Their great works in education and research established the base of ulterier development of the geomorphology in Korea. Since 1970s, research manpower and quality has incresed rapidly, partly due to the various international activities and cooperations of Korean geomorphologists. Owing to above development, Korean geomorphologist was able to found "The Geomorphological Association of Korea" in 1990 and publish "Journal of GAK", since 1994. Furthermore, geomorphologists are playing important roles in interdisciplinary academic societies, such as "The Korean Quaternary Assocition". Still 1960s, our research had focused on the identification and interpretation of erosional surfaces in Korea Peninsular. Of course, W.M. Davis's "Geographical Cycle Theory" and L.C. King's "Pedimentation Theory" had a great influence on the Koerans' works. After 1970s, the study of erosional surface played the important role in setting up the morphoclimatic viewpoint and methodology. Research scope tend to be notably broad and various than it was untill 1960's. Disposotion of the scientific methods and techniques become more and more apparent. These trends of research has settled precise descreption and interpretation of actual landforms, based on the careful field works, scientific measuring, and analisis, rather than methodology focused on the particular master theories. Recent geomorphological researches show the scope from climatic geomorphology and Quaternary geomorphology to granite and limestone weathering, pedo-geomorphogenic environment and periglacial landforms, focused on the small-to-medium scales. And then there have been new trying to interprete erosional surfaces such as hillslopes and terraces. Also, studies of coastal and plain landforms have been successfully developed. Recent new trends show the quantitative and analytic modelling using field measurement and laboratory work, and study on the human impacts on the natural landforms.y on the human impacts on the natural landforms.

Assessment of Refuge Safety in Accomodations According to Awareness and Usability of Descending Life Lines and Simple Descending Life Lines (완강기 및 간이완강기의 인지·사용능력에 따른 숙박시설의 피난안전성 평가)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the awareness and usability of descending life lines and simple descending life lines for fire situations in the accommodation of the public officials who are responsible for supervising the installation and maintenance of descending life lines and simple descending life lines. The main results of the study are summarized as follows. First, in comparison of the ability to distinguish between descending life lines and simple descending life lines, the majority of female public officers in general administrative services do not have the ability to distinguish between descending lifelines and simple descending life lines, so they should be able to improve their ability to distinguish descending life lines. Also, institutional strategies are needed to regularly receive education through the Safety Experience Center in order to prevent safety accidents such as falling in emergency situations. Second, as a result of verifying reusability of simple descending life lines by gender and occupation, most public officers with the exception of half of the firefighting officers were analyzed as having no ability to reuse the simple descending life lines. Therefore, it is necessary to change the relevant laws so that only the installation of descending life lines which can be used continuously is permitted, except for the simple descending life lines among the evacuation instruments to be additionally installed in each room of the accommodation. Third, in terms of the ability to perceive the maximum load of the descending life lines according to occupation, the perception ability of the rescuers was the highest and the perception ability of the fire service personnel was the lowest. In order to improve the perception abilities of the fire service personnel, it is necessary to strengthen the theoretical and practical education of descending life lines in collective education such as the command-enhancing training which is regularly carried out in fire service academy. Lastly, it is believed that it is more effective to conduct the experience training of the descending life lines by imagining the fire in accomodations rather than other facilities, because it is the location where fires are actually seen the most.

The Study of Korean-style Leadership (The Great Cause?Oriented and Confidence-Oriented Leadership) (대의와 신뢰 중시의 한국형 리더십 연구)

  • This research analyzes some Korean historical figures and presents the core values of their leaderships so that we can bring up the theory of leadership which would be compatible with the current circumstances around Korea. Through this work, we expected that we would not only find out typical examples among historical leaders but also reaffirm our identities in our history. As a result of the research, it was possible to classify some figures in history into several patterns and discover their archetypal qualities. Those qualities were 'transform(實事)', 'challenge(決死)', 'energize(風流)', 'create(創案)', and 'envision(開新)' respectively. Among the qualities, this research concentrated on the quality of 'challenge', exclusively 'death-defying spirit'. This spirit is the one with which historical leaders could sacrifice their lives for their great causes. This research selected twelve figures as incarnations of death-defying spirit, who are Gyebaek(階伯), Ganggamchan(姜邯贊), Euljimundeok(乙支文德), Choeyoung(崔瑩),ChungMongju(鄭夢周), Seongsammun (成三問), Yisunsin(李舜臣), Gwakjaewoo(郭再祐), Choeikhyeon(崔益鉉), Anjunggeun(安重根), Yunbonggil(尹奉吉), Yijun(李儁). Through analyzing their core values and abilities and categorizing some historical cases into four spheres such as a private sphere, relations sphere, a community sphere, and a society sphere, we came to find a certain element in common among those figures. It was that they eventually took the lead by showing the goal and the ideal to their people at all times. Moreover, their goals were always not only obvious but also unwavering. In the second chapter, I described the core value in a private sphere, so called '志靑靑'. It implies that a leader should set his ultimate goal and then try to attain it with an unyielding will. Obvious self-confidence and unfailing self-creed are core values in a private sphere. In the third chapter, I described the core value in a relative sphere, the relationship between one and others. It is '守信結義'. It indicates that a leader should win confidence from others by discharging his duties in the relation with others. Confidence is the highest leveled affection to others. Thus, mutual reliance should be based on truthful sincerity and affection toward others. Stubbornness and strictness are needed not to be prompted by pity simultaneously. In the fourth chapter, I described the core value in a community sphere. It is '丹心合力'. For this value, what are required to a leader are both his community spirit and his loyalty to one's community. Moreover, the strong sense of responsibility and the attitude of taking an initiative among others are also required. Thus, it can be said that the great power to conduct the community is so called fine teamwork. What's more, the attitude of the leader can exert a great influence on his community. In the fifth chapter, I described the core value of death defying spirit in the society sphere. This value might be more definite and explicit than other ones described above. A leader should prepare willingly for one's death to fulfill his great duties. 'What to do' is more important for a leader than 'how to do'. That is to say, a leader should always do righteous things. Efficiency is nothing but one of his interests. A leader must be the one who behaves himself always according to righteousness. Unless a leader's behaviors are based on righteousness, it is absolutely impossible that a leader exerts his leadership toward people very efficiently. Thus, it can be said that a true leader is the one not only who is of morality and but also who tries to fulfill his duties.

A Study on the Teaching·Learning Management Status and Improvement Plan about 'Creative Engineering Design' Lesson of 'Technology·Home Economics Subject' for High School Teachers (고등학교 기술·가정 교과 '창의 공학 설계' 단원 수업에 대한 교수·학습 운영 실태 분석 및 개선 방안)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide a basic research data for increasing the quality of 'creative engineering design' lesson and the teaching learning capability of high school teachers by analyzing the teaching learning management status and improvement plan of 'technology home economics subject' lesson for high school teachers. In order to investigate the teaching learning management status, the survey questionnaires from 63 teachers were collected from high school teachers who teach technology home economics subject currently and analyzed by statistical program SPSS 20. The main results of this study were as follows: First, for the contents of 'creative engineering design' lesson, the highest mean of response was 'creative thinking method'(M=4.22). In the learning activities, the teachers perceived the importance of the 'idea concept' highly. Second, in the management of 'creative engineering design' lesson, the teachers perceived the importance of the secure of tool, material budget, and practice space for the lesson highly. In the teaching capabilities, the teacher perceived the importance of the preparing teaching learning strategy most($$M{\frac{._-}{.}}4.14$$). Third, the teachers preferred to product for making uncomfortable things better in life and the other production outside from the content of textbook. Fourth, in the ratio of practice:theory lesson, they perceived the ratio of 3:7(36.5%), 4:6(25.4%), and 2:8(23.8%) are appropriate. In the assessment, the combination of production, portfolio, and presentation was preferred most. Fifth, there were statistically significant difference in teachers' interest and satisfaction and contents about 'creative engineering design' lesson between groups divided by the existence of practice space, certification held(technology teacher, non technology teacher), etc. Therefore, in order to improve the interest and satisfaction about the 'creative engineering design' lesson, the secure of space for technology practice and material budget were required. In addition, training and seminars program for improving the teaching capability for 'creative engineering design' lesson were required.

A model for enhancing the academic excellence of adult college students (성인대학생의 학업수월성 강화를 위한 모형)

  • The purpose of this study is to present a model for enhancing the academic excellence of adult college students. For this purpose, 408 adult college students attending 2-year and 4-year colleges in Busan, Daegu, and Gyeongbuk were surveyed and analyzed. The components of the model are curriculum, educational methods, evaluation of education, educational administration, educational environment, and institutional support and the results are as follows. First, the curriculum preferred by adult college students was to acquire diverse academic knowledge for a degree, to acquire knowledge and skills to develop skills for the workplace, and to acquire new information and knowledge regarding issues in society as a whole. Second, the professors' qualification among the educational methods preferred by adult college students was professional competence of the professors based on their theoretical and practical skills. The preferred teaching methods were lecture, discussion, action learning, and the project learning method in that order and video and PowerPoint were preferred as effective teaching mediums. Third, the preferred course for adult college students is operated on weekends, and three years was preferred to get a bachelor's degree. The possible hours of learning per day is 3~6 hours, indicating the necessity of e-learning, B-learning, and prior learning experience recognition systems. Fourth, the education evaluation method preferred by adult college students was a compromise method which is a mixture of absolute evaluation and relative evaluation, and it also showed the need for Pass or Non Pass evaluation method. Fifth, the internal factors of college selection preferred by adult college students were the acquisition of new knowledge and skills, and the external factors were desire to receive many opportunities related to employment and job improvement. The classroom, which provides an effective environment, was a fixed seat classroom and an indoor classroom environment was emphasized for desired educational environment. Sixth, institutional support preferred by adult college students was computer-related programs and learning club support services.

Study on Current Curriculum Analysis of Clinical Dental Hygiene for Dental Hygiene Students in Korea (국내 치위생(학)과 임상치위생학 교육과정 운영현황 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic data to standardize the clinical dental hygiene curriculum, based on analysis of current clinical dental hygiene curricula in Korea. We emailed questionnaires to 12 schools to investigate clinical dental hygiene curricula, from February to March, 2017. We analyzed the clinical dental hygiene curricula in 5 schools with a 3-year program and in 7 schools with a 4-year program. The questionnaire comprised nine items on topics relating to clinical dental hygiene, and four items relating to the dental hygiene process and oral prophylaxis. The questionnaire included details regarding the subject name, the grade/semester/credit system, course content and class hours, the number of senior professors, and the number of patients available for dental hygiene clinical training purposes. In total, there were 96 topics listed in the curricula relating to clinical dental hygiene training, and topics varied between the schools. There was an average of 20.4 topic credits, and more credits and hours were allocated to the 4-year program than to the 3-year program. On average, the ratio of students to professors was 21.4:1. Course content included infection control, concepts for dental hygiene processes, dental hygiene assessment, intervention and evaluation, case studies, and periodontal instrumentation. An average of 2 hours per patient was spent on dental hygiene practice, with an average of 1.9 visits. On average, student clinical training involved 19 patients and 26.6 patients in the 3-year and 4-year programs, respectively. The average participation time per student per topic was 38.0 hours and 53.1 hours, in the 3-year and 4-year programs, respectively. Standardizing the clinical dental hygiene curricula in Korea will require consensus guidelines on topics, the number of classes required to achieve core competencies as a dental hygienist, and theory and practice time.
