This paper presents the interrelationship between undrained static and cyclic shear behavior. Laboratory works were performed through the undralned static and cyclic triaxial test using Nak-Dong River sand. And static triaxial test involved the triaxial extension test for comparison with cyclic shear behavior Cyclic triaxial test was performed with a variety of combination conditions of initial static shear stress $(q_{st})$ and cyclic stress $(q_{cy})$. In this result, the stress path of cyclic shear behavior was correspondent with static shear behavior passing the critical stress ratio (CSR) line because of the development of flow deformation. After that, a failure occurred according to failure line (FL) of static shear behavior. The stress path of cyclic shear behavior showed essentially the same with static shear behavior, although it appears a little different in test method.
In this research, the photoelastic experimental hybrid method with Hook-Jeeves numerical method has been developed: This method is more precise and stable than the photoelastic experimental hybrid method with Newton-Rapson numerical method with Gaussian elimination method. Using the photoelastic experimental hybrid method with Hook-Jeeves numerical method, we can separate stress components from isochromatics only and stress intensity factors and stress concentration factors can be determined. The photoelastic experimental hybrid method with Hook-Jeeves had better be used in the full field experiment than the photoelastic experimental hybrid method with Newton-Rapson with Gaussian elimination method.

A finite element analysis of a trunnion pipe anchor is presented. The structure is analyzed for the case of internal pressure and moment loadings. The stress results are categorized as average and linearly varying(through the thickness) stresses. The resulting stresses are interpreted per Section 111 of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code from which the Primary(B$_1$) and Secondary(C$_1$) stress indices for pressure, the Primary(B$_2$) and Secondary(C$_2$) stress indices for moment are developed. Several analysis were peformed on various structural geometries in order to determine empirical relationships for the stress indices as a function of dimensionless ratios.
Many mechanical defects originated from various geological causes make rock mass exhibit anisotropic characteristics. Understanding how the stress distribution occurs in anisotropic rock mass is, therefore, very important for the design of footings on rock and rock structures. In this study, the patterns of elastic stress distribution, developed by acting line load on the surface, in transversely isotropic was investigated. The influence of joint stiffness, joint spacing, and dip angle on the stress distribution was examined. By assuming the Mohr-Coulomb criterion as joint slip condition, the development of joint slip zone was also discussed.

Cohesive and frictional materials such as concrete and soil are pressure dependent. In general, failure criterion for such materials inclined with respect to positive hydrostatic axis in Haigh-Westergaard stress space. Consequently, inelastic volumetric strain always positive with associated flow rule. In this study, to overcome this shortcoming, non-associated flow rule which controls volumetric component of plastic flow is adopted. Numerical analysis based on a constitutive model using nonuniform hardening plasticity with five parameter failure criterion and non-associated flow rule has conducted to predict concrete behavior under multi-axial stress state and verified with experimental result.

Arching effect occurs around the unsupported excavation surface near to tunnel face when a tunnel is excavated in a stable rock mass. If a weak fracture zone exists in front of tunnel face, a displacement occurs between tunnel face and weak fracture zone due to stress concentration. If three-dimensional absolute coordinates (longitudinal, transverse, vertical direction) is measured at tunnel face by geodetic method, the ground change in front of the tunnel face can be predicted by analysing three-dimensional absolute displacement. The purpose of this study is to verify the analysis method of three-dimensional absolute displacement by comparing the trend of displacement ratio at crown and sidewall of tunnel and the influence line/trend line of crown settlement compared with TSP results in the same section.
Purpose: This study was performed to compare the stress distribution pattern of abutment-fixture connection area using 3-dimensional finite element model analysis when 5 different implant systems which have internal connection. Materials and methods: For the analysis, a finite element model of implant was designed to locate at first molar area. Stress distribution was observed when vertical load of 200 N was applied at several points on the occlusal surfaces of the implants, including center, points 1.5 mm, 3.0 mm away from center and oblique load of 200 N was applied $30^{\circ}$ inclined to the implant axis. The finite element model was analyzed by using of 3G. Author (PlassoTech, California, USA). Results: The DAS tech implant (internal step with no taper) showed more favorable stress distribution than other internally connected implants. AS compare to the situations when the loading was applied within the boundary of implants and an oblique loading was applied, it showed higher equivalent stress and equivalent elastic strain when the loading was applied beyond the boundary of implants. Regardless of loading condition, the abutments showed higher equivalent stress and equivalent elastic strain than the fixtures. Conclusion: When the occlusal contact is afforded, the distribution of stress varies depending on the design of connection area and the location of loading. More favorable stress distribution is expected when the contact load was applied within the diameter of fixtures and the DAS tech implant (internal step with no tapering) has more benefits than the other design of internally connected implants.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the stress distribution and intensity derived from the transpalatal lingual arch in the investing bone composed of photoelastic material(PL-3). The transpalatal lingual arch wire was deflected in the horizontal and vertical direction to give the various conditions. The two-dimensional photoelastic stress analysis was performed, and the stress distrebution was recored by photography The results were as follows: 1. In bilateral expansion, as horizontal deflection was singly applied, the stress was more concentrated on the root apex in square free end than round. In square free end, as vertical deflection was increased gradually, the black line meaning center of rotation moved inferiorly together with the increment of whole fringes. 2. In application of vertical deflection on anchorage side for unilateral expansion, the stress distribution that expansive force leaned to expansion side was observed. As vortical deflection increased, the extruding stress was observed on molar of expansion side. And as horizontal deflection increased, the tipping stress on the molar of anchorage side was observed. 3. In unilateral rotation with the asymmetric toe-in, the fringe appeared on the distal aspect of root apex.
Duncan & Chang(1970) proposed the Duncan-Chang model that a linear relation of transformed stress-strain plots was reconstituted from a nonlinear relation of stress-strain curve of triaxial compression test using hyperbolic theory so as to estimate an initial tangent modulus and ultimate deviator stress for the soil specimen. Although the transformed stress-strain plots show a linear relationship theoretically, they actually show a nonlinearity at both low and high values of strain of the test. This phenomenon indicates that the stress-strain curve is not a complete form of a hyperbola. So, if linear regression analyses for the transformed stress-strain plot are performed over a full range of strain of a test, error in the estimation of their linear equations is unavoidable depending on ranges of strain with non-linearity. In order to reduce such an error, a modified regression analysis method is proposed in this study, in which linear regression analyses for transformed stress-strain plots are performed over the entire range of strain except the range the non-linearity is shown around starting and ending of the test, and then the initial tangent modulus and ultimate deviator stresses are calculated. Isotropically consolidated-drained triaxial compression tests were performed on compacted weathered soil with a modified Proctor density to obtain their model parameters. The modified regression analyses for transformed stress-strain plots were performed and analyzed results are compared with results estimated by 2 points method (Duncan et al., 1980). As a result of analyses, initial tangent moduli are about 4.0% higher and ultimate deviator stresses are about 2.9% lower than those values estimated by Duncan's 2 points method.
The present research focuses on a methodology to describe shearing response of clay with respect to temperature. An increase of temperature shifts the normal consolidation line to move down in the plane of void ratio and mean effective stress. The critical state line, however, does not move as much as the normal consolidation line in accordance with temperature increase. As temperature increase, therefore, the difference between the critical state mean effective stress and the pre-consolidation pressure reduces. To reflect this easily, the present study applies a bounding surface consisting of two parts divided by the critical state mean effective stress. This study calibrated a bounding surface for the soft Bangkok clay and performed elemental simulation for undrained triaxial compression tests. The elemental simulation showed that the model can describe the mechanical response upon temperature of clay without complex hardening and evolution rules compared to the experimental data.
