A Two Mobilized-Plane Model is proposed for monotonic and cyclic soil response including liquefaction. This model is based on two mobilized planes: a plane of maximum shear stress, which rotates, and a horizontal plane which is spatially fixed. By controlling two mobilized planes, the model can simulate the principal stress rotation effect associated with simple shear from different $K_0$ states. The proposed model gives a similar skeleton behaviour for soils having the same mean stress, regardless of $K_0$ conditions as observed in laboratory tests. The soil skeleton behaviour observed in cyclic drained simple shear tests, including compaction during unloading and dilation at large strain is captured in the model. Undrained monotonic and cyclic response is predicted by imposing the volumetric constraint of the water on the drained or skeleton behaviour. This constitutive model is incorporated into the dynamic coupled stress-flow finite difference program of FLAC (Fast Lagrangian Analysis of Continua). The model was first calibrated with drained simple shear tests on Fraser River sand, and verified by comparing predicted and measured undrained behaviour of Fraser River sand using the same input parameters.
Because the MIRD phantom, the representative mathematical phantom was developed for the calculation of internal radiation dose, and simulated by the simplified mathematical equations for rapid computation, the appropriateness of application to external dose calculation and the closeness to real human body should be justified. This study was intended to modify the MIRD phantom according to the comparison of the organ absorbed doses in the two phantoms exposed to monoenergetic broad parallel photon beams of the energy between 0.05 MeV and 10 MeV. The organ absorbed doses of the MIRD phantom and the Zubal yokel phantom were calculated for AP and PA geometries by MCNP4C, general-purpose Monte Carlo code. The MIRD phantom received higher doses than the Zubal phantom for both AP and PA geometries. Effective dose in PA geometry for 0.05 MeV photon beams showed the difference up to 50%. Anatomical axial views of the two phantoms revealed the thinner trunk thickness of the MIRD phantom than that of the Zubal phantom. To find out the optimal thickness of trunk, the difference of effective doses for 0.5 MeV photon beams for various trunk thickness of the MIRD phantom from 20 cm to 36 cm were compared. The optimal thunk thickness, 24 cm and 28 cm for AP and PA geometries, respectively, showed the minimum difference of effective doses between the two phantoms. The trunk model of the MIRD phantom was modified and the organ doses were recalculated using the modified MIRD phantom. The differences of effective dose for AP and PA geometries reduced to 7.3% and the overestimation of organ doses decreased, too. Because MIRD-type phantoms are easier to be adopted in Monte Carlo calculations and to standardize, the modifications of the MIRD phantom allow us to hold the advantage of MIRD-type phantoms over a voxel phantom and alleviate the anatomical difference and consequent disagreement in dose calculation.
Purpose : In radiation therapy, NTCF is very importart indicator of selecting the optimal treatment plan. In our study, we tried to find out usefullness of NTCP in lung cancer by comparng the incidence of radiation pneumonitis with NTCP. Materials and Methods : From August 1993 to December 1994, thirty six patients with locally advanced non=small cell lung cancer were treated by concurrent chemoradiation therapy. Total dose of radiation therapy was 6480cGy (120cGy, bid) and chemotherapeutlc agents were mitomycin C. vinblastion, cisplatin (2 cycles, 4 weeks interval). We evaluated the development of raniation pneumonitis by CT scan, chest x-rar and clinical symptoms. We used grading system of South Western Oncology Group (SWOG) for radiation pneumanitis. Dose Volume Histograms (DVH) were analyzed for ipsilateral and whole lung, Non uniform DVH was translated to uniform DVH by effective volume method. With these data, we calculated NTCP for ipsilateral and whole lung. Finally we compared the clinical results to NTCP. Results : Eight of thrity six patients developed radiation pneumonitis. Of these 8 patients , 6 had grade I severity and 2 had grade II. The average NTCP value cf the patients who showed radiation pneumonitis was significantly higher than that uf the patients without pneumonitis $(66\%\;vs.\;26.4\%)$. But the results of pulmonary function test was not correlated with NTCP. Conclusion : NTCP of lung is very good indicator for selecting rival treatment planning in lung cancer. According to the results of NTCP, it may be possible to adjust target volume and optimize target dose. In the near future, we are going to anaiyze the effect of hyperfractionation and concurrent chemotherapy in addition to NTCP.
An experimental investigation was conducted to examine the hysteretic behaviors of ultra-high strength concrete tied columns. The purpose of this study is to propose the volumetric ratio of transverse reinforcement for ultra-high strength concrete tied columns with 100 MPa compressive strength. Nineteen 1/3 scaled columns were fabricated to simulate an 1/2 story of actual structural members with the main variables of axial load ratio, configurations and volumetric ratios of transverse reinforcement. The results show that the deformability of columns are affected by the configurations and volumetric ratios of transverse reinforcement. Especially, it has been found that the behavior of columns are affected by axial load ratio rather than the amounts and the configurations of transverse reinforcement. To improve the ductility behavior of RC column using ultra high strength concrete in a seismic region, We suggested the amount of transverse reinforcement for all data that satisfy the required displacement ductility ratio over 4. It is means that the lateral confining reduction factor (${\lambda}^c$) considering the effective legs, configuration and spacing of transverse reinforcement and axial load ratio was reflected for the volumetric ratio of transverse reinforcement.
Decomposed granite soil is a Granitic Gneiss, and it is a c Korean peninsula. It is known a changed significantly when it is aim of this study is to evaluat utility of the constitutive laws. Firstly, triaxial tests were pe sites prepared by the laborato scrutinized the characteristics results were analysed and the p evaluated. Finally, the predicted Even though the origins of slight difference in the angle of pression line( A) : both soils show In the effective mean normal uniqueness of the Normal Compr The relationships between the the decomposed granite soil tier OCR is larger than 2, the stress stress(MDS) or. even thous moved below the theoretical Ros was found to coincide with the (NC) soils, the pore pressure parameter, A,, increased up to 1.3. This phenomenon might be mainly due to the effect of the particle crushing during shearing, When the OCR value approaches 7, the negative pore pressure is developed in undrained tests and the dilatancy is observed in drained tests. The predicted and the observed behavior of drained tests showed relatively good fitting with the Cam-Clay model.
Three differing sandstones, two synthetic and one field sample, have been tested ultrasonically under a range of confining pressures and pore pressures representative of in-situ reservoir pressures. These sandstones include: a synthetic sandstone with calcite intergranular cement produced using the CSIRO Calcite In-situ Precipitation Process (CIPS); a synthetic sandstone with silica intergranular cement; and a core sample from the Otway Basin Waarre Formation, Boggy Creek 1 well, from the target lithology for a trial $CO_2$ pilot project. Initial testing was carried on the cores at "room-dried" conditions, with confining pressures up to 65 MPa in steps of 5 MPa. All cores were then flooded with $CO_2$, initially in the gas phase at 6 MPa, $22^{\circ}C$, then with liquid-phase $CO_2$ at a temperature of $22^{\circ}C$ and pressures from 7 MPa to 17 MPa in steps of 5 MPa. Confining pressures varied from 10 MPa to 65 MPa. Ultrasonic waveforms for both P- and S-waves were recorded at each effective pressure increment. Velocity versus effective pressure responses were calculated from the experimental data for both P- and S-waves. Attenuations $(1/Q_p)$ were calculated from the waveform data using spectral ratio methods. Theoretical calculations of velocity as a function of effective pressure for each sandstone were made using the $CO_2$ pressure-density and $CO_2$ bulk modulus-pressure phase diagrams and Gassmann effective medium theory. Flooding the cores with gaseous phase $CO_2$ produced negligible change in velocity-effective stress relationships compared to the dry state (air saturated). Flooding with liquid-phase $CO_2$ at various pore pressures lowered velocities by approximately 8% on average compared to the air-saturated state. Attenuations increased with liquid-phase $CO_2$ flooding compared to the air-saturated case. Experimental data agreed with the Gassmann calculations at high effective pressures. The "critical" effective pressure, at which agreement with theory occurred, varied with sandstone type. Discrepancies are thought to be due to differing micro-crack populations in the microstructure of each sandstone type. The agreement with theory at high effective pressures is significant and gives some confidence in predicting seismic behaviour under field conditions when $CO_2$ is injected.
To investigate the unsaturated characteristics of the tailings obtained from the waste dump at Imgi mine, matric suction and volumetric water content were measured in both drying and wetting processes using Automated Soil-Water Characteristics Curve Apparatus. Based on the measured result, Soil Water Characteristic Curves (SWCC) were estimated by van Genuchten model. According to the unsaturated soil classification method, the tailings of the waste dump correspond to clayey sand. As a result of Suction Stress Characteristic Curve (SSCC) by Lu and Likos model, SSCC has a shape of S which is similar to SWCC. The hysteresis phenomenon occurred in SSCCs, which means the suction stress of drying path is larger than that of wetting path in the same effective degree of saturation. The effective stress of unsaturated soil is equal to that of saturated soil when matric suction is less than Air Entry Value (AEV). However, the effective stress of unsaturated soil is larger than that of saturated soil when matic suction is more than AEV. Meanwhile, unsaturated hydraulic conductivity by van Genuchten model decreased with increasing matric suction, and the hydraulic conductivity of drying path is larger than that of wetting path.

The effective thermal conductivity of two-phase materials such as unbonded silica sands saturated with a nanofluid was measured at high temperature using the transient thermal probe method. The nanofluid used in this study was a water-based mixture of 0.1 vol% $Al_2O_3$ nanoparticles with a diameter of 45 nm. The convection problem for fluids was prevented with this measurement method because the fluid was confined to within very small pore spaces. Based on the prediction model for unbonded sands, the thermal conductivities of the saturating nanofluid at high temperatures could be determined with the measured effective thermal conductivities for the two-phase material. In the results, increases in the thermal conductivity ratios of the nanofluid to pure water when temperatures were varied from $30^{\circ}$ to $80^{\circ}C$ were within the range of 4.87%~5.48%.
Experimental study was carried out to investigate the structural performance of composite beams with steel fiber concrete and angle. For this purpose, seven specimens composed of two RC beams with or without steel fiber and five composite beams with steel fiber and angle were constructed and tested. All specimens had no web shear reinforcement. Main variables for the specimens were tensile reinforcement ratio and fiber volume fraction. Based on the test results, structural performance such as strength, stiffness, ductility and energy dissipation capacity was evaluated and compared with the predicted strength. The prediction of flexure and shear strength gives a good relationship with the observed strength. The strength, ductility and energy dissipation capacity are increased, as the fiber volume fraction is increased. Meanwhile, high tensile reinforcement ratio resulted in the reduction of ductility and energy dissipation capacity for the composite beams.
When a saturated clay is sampled from a borehole in an undisturbed manner, the exerted negative pore water pressure restricts the volume expansion. The vertical and horizontal stresses to which the clay was subjected in the ground are smaller and larger than this isotropically confining stress equivalent to the mean principal stress in the ground, respectively. Therefore the sample expands vertically and shrinks laterally under an undrained condition. In the ordinary consolidation test, the sample thus deformed is trimmed to fit the inside of the consolidometer ring. Thus, the specimen generates larger consolidation displacement due to confining larger horizontal stress when in-situ effective pressure is loaded. The specimen does not reproduce the in-situ consolidation behavior, In this paper, considering sample deformation, the test specimen is made to expand laterally to fit the inside of the ring in the undrained manner when the in-situ effective pressure is loaded. And applicability of this proposed test procedure was verified; results from the conventional consolidation test procedure are also discussed.
