The purpose of this research was to investigate the prevalence of peer harassment in preschool children and assess its influence on self-concept, hyperactivity, and behavioral problems. The participants were 4 and 5 year old children recruited from preschools and day care centers. Results indicated that a small group of children were identified as victims by self and teacher-reports. Negative self-concept and hyperactivity predicted self-reported victimization. In addition, hyperactivity, internalizing, and externalizing problems were significant contributors in teacher reported victimization.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of maternal rejective parenting behaviors and preschoolers' aggression and social skills on preschoolers' exclusion by peers. Subjects were 91 5- to 6-year-old preschoolers(49 boys, 42 girls) and their mothers. Data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and stepwised multiple regression analysis. The major findings are summarized as follows: (1) preschoolers' exclusion by peers was positively correlated with maternal rejective parenting behaviors and preschoolers' aggression. On the other hand, preschoolers' exclusion by peers was negatively correlated with preschoolers' social skills. (2) The most influential factor on preschoolers' exclusion by peers was preschoolers' cooperative behaviors, and the next influential factor on preschoolers' exclusion by peers was maternal rejective parenting behaviors. In conclusion, maternal rejective parenting behaviors and preschoolers' social skills influence preschoolers' exclusion by peers.
The purpose of this study was to explore relationships between preschooler's aggression and social skills, maternal management strategies of peer relations and parenting behaviors and preschoolers' internet-game addictive inclination. Participants included seventy-seven (77) 5 to 6-year-old preschoolers (44 boys, 33 girls) and their mothers. The Aggressive Behavior Scale (Lee & Choi, 2001), the Social Skill Rating Scale (Suh, 2004), the Maternal Parenting Behaviors Scale (Rhu & Lee, 2007) and the Parental Involvement Checklist (Park, 2001) were used in this study. The Internet Game Addiction Scale (Korea Agency for Digital Opportunity and Promotion, 2006) was used to identify higher and lower addictive level of internet-game inclination. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and t-test. Major findings revealed that preschooler's social skills, maternal management strategies of peer relations and parenting behaviors showed a predictable correlation to preschooler's internet-game addictive inclination.
Maternal beliefs about preschoolers' displays of aggression and social withdrawal and the extent to which their strategies for dealing with these behaviors can be predicted from beliefs were examined. And the extent to which maternal childrearing behavior and preschoolers' social problematic behaviors can be predicted from beliefs. 202 mothers of 5-year-old(114 boys; 88 girls) were presented with descriptions of hypothetical incidents of peer-directed aggression and social withdrawal. Maternal beliefs were different according to kinds of problematic behaviors. Thus most mothers attributed preschoolers' aggression to situational factors, social withdrawal to disposition. Mothers felt embarrassed about aggression and concerned about social withdrawal. The power assertive strategies were more used for dealing with aggression than social withdrawal. The choice of strategies for dealing with these behaviors and maternal childrearing behavior were related to maternal beliefs. Also preschoolers' social problematic behaviors were effected from maternal beliefs and childrearing behavior.
This study examined the mediating effect of maternal abuse and neglect on the relationship between socioeconomic status and preschoolers' social behavior. A total of 702 mothers with 3-year-olds(353 boys and 349 girls) and the children's teachers, all of whom reside in Seoul, participated in the study. Socioeconomic status was measured by maternal educational level and monthly household income. Maternal abuse and neglect were assessed by asking mothers to complete the Parent-to-Child Version of the Conflict Tactics Scales. Both mothers and teachers completed the Preschool Social Behavior Scale in order to evaluate prosocial behavior and aggression. The results indicated that both socioeconomic status and maternal abuse and neglect were significantly associated with preschool children's prosocial behavior, and socioeconomic status was significantly and negatively related to aggression. Furthermore, a structural equation model confirmed the mediating effect of maternal abuse and neglect on the relationship between socioeconomic status and preschool children's prosocial behavior, suggesting the need for interventions focusing on improving positive parenting and decreasing negative parenting to promote prosocial behavior.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating and moderating effects of teacher-child relationships on children's social behavior and peer preference. The participants were 508 children and 28 head teachers of their classes. Teachers measured the children's social behavior and the teacher-child relationships. Peer preference was measured by peer nomination. The association between prosocial behavior and peer preference was partially mediated by teacher-child conflict. The association between withdrawal, aggression and peer preference was fully mediated by teacher-child conflict. The moderating effects of teacher-child conflict were found between prosocial behavior and peer preference. In addition, teacher-child conflict moderated the association between physical aggression and peer preference.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to explore the structural relationships of child negative emotionality, mother rejective parenting, teacher-child conflict, and child emotion regulation on child aggression. Methods: The participants in this study were 3- to 5-year-old kindergarten children, their mothers, and their teachers (all of whom lived in Busan). The data were analyzed using PASW Statistics 18.0 and AMOS 21.0. For data analysis, frequency, Cronbach's alphas, Pearson's correlation coefficients, SEM were used. Results: First, mother rejective parenting had an indirect effect on child aggression through child emotion regulation. Second, teacher-child conflict had a direct effect on child aggression and had an indirect effect on child aggression through child emotion regulation. Third, child negative emotionality had an indirect effect on child aggression through mother rejective parenting and teacher-child conflict and child emotion regulation. Conclusion: These finding suggest the importance of mediating effect of mother rejective parenting, teacher-child conflict and child emotion regulation between child negative emotionality and aggression.
This study examined the effects of children's negative emotionality, emotional regulation, and maternal parenting behaviors on their relational and overt aggression. The participants were 355 children(174 boys, 181 girls; aged 4-5 years old) and their mothers. The teachers completed rating scales to measure the children's aggression and emotion regulation. The children's negative emotionality and maternal parenting behaviors were assessed by a mother reported questionnaire. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, correlations, and hierarchical multiple regressions. Results showed that Children's negative emotionality was positively related to their relational and overt aggression. Children's emotional regulation had a negative relation to their relational and overt aggression. Mother's limit-setting and rejection-neglect was significantly related to children's relational aggression, whereas mother's warmth-encouragement and rejection-neglect was negatively related to children's overt aggression. Hierarchical regression analysis indicated that the interaction of children's negative emotionality and mother's overprotection-permission predicted children's overt aggression. Children's negative emotionality, whose mothers demonstrated middle and high level of overprotection-permission, was associated significantly with overt aggression. In addition, the association between mother's parenting behaviors and children's aggressions were mediated by their emotion regulation. The findings point to similarities and differences between relational and overt aggression in relation to children's negative emotionality, emotional regulation and maternal parenting behaviors.

The purpose of this study is to recognize kindergarten teachers' experiences of child violence for identifying the site's needs for the implementation of preventive education in early childhood and to provide basic data on child violence. To this end, nine teachers were interviewed in-depth. From the study results, first, child violence-related child behavior, which usually occurs in kindergartens, includes physical assault, aggression, verbal violence, threats and threats, and bullying. Second, teachers usually use direct intervention laws in cases of child violence, but were finding it difficult to intervene properly with many tasks or high teacher-to-child ratios. Teachers recognized the need for lower teacher-to-child ratios and placement of each class burden. Third, teachers were aware of the need for prevention education for child violence targeting infants, and instigated the following appropriate interactions immediately after problem behavior occurred: large group activities, specific multimedia education data and parent education. Fourth, teachers are concerned about the possibility of problem behavior being learned and imitated through education in the implementation of prevention education for children's violence. Therefore, this study proposed the need to develop various teaching methods that could be applied to infant education sites, focusing on the types of child violence-related problem behaviors that occur in kindergartens.
