This research presents an efficient method based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for estimating the resistance performance of a ship with a large settlement amount and a dynamic trim. The settlement of the inviscid flow analysis and the results of dynamic trim were used to set a large attitude for the ship prior to performing a viscous flow analysis; a viscous flow analysis was subsequently performed by Dynamic Fluid Body Interaction (DFBI). This method is termed as method I, in which a simple grating system can be used without employing the overset mesh technique by setting many attitudes before interpretation. Thus, method I is advantageous in reducing calculation time and improving calculation accuracy. The viscous flow analysis was performed using a commercial CFD code STAR-CCM+. Compared with the final convergence result, the first viscous flow analysis result of method I exhibited a variation of less than 1 % of resistance. The result was obtained by changing the gratings each time an attitude is changed at each calculation stage, based on the DFBI method provided to STAR-CCM+ using a simple grating system, which is not a superposed grating. This method is termed as method II. Compared with method II of resistance, method I exhibited a dif erence of 0.03-0.6 % for linear velocity. The results of method I were confirmed to be qualitatively and quantitatively appropriate through comparison with several trillion simulations.

A numerical solution method of the incompressible Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes equations is applied for calculating turbulent flows and performances of a marine propeller in open-water, four-quadrant conditions. Computed propeller flows of the model propeller P4381, for which the experimental data of the open-water performances exist, reveal complex viscous-flow characteristics including three-dimensional flow separations in various off-design conditions and also computed propeller thrusts and torques agree quite well with experimental data except some cases for which severe propeller cavitations occurred in the experiment.

The instability analysis of submerged gas flow into liquid is studied, which assumes gas and liquid as viscous and irrotational. At low mass flow rate of gas, injected gas plume is collection of bubbles, and increase of gas flow rate makes plume as a jet. It is well known that the transition from bubbling to jetting occurs in the transonic region. But previous works neglect viscous effect of gas flow into liquid. This paper concerns about an application of viscous potential flow theory in cylindrical gas flow into liquid. The growth rate versus wave number and mach number is compared with various condition including inviscid and viscous flow.

Recently supercavitating torpedo has been studied because of its high-speed performance as the next generation of underwater weapon systems. In this study, we present a numerical method based on the potential flow. Characteristic features of the shape of supercavities and drag forces are investigated. In addition, we introduce a viscous-potential method to compensate for the effects of viscosity. The results are compared with viscous calculations using a commercial package, FLUENT V13.

A numerical calculation is carried out for the analysis of 3-dimensional compressible flow field in axial-flow rotating blades by using finite element method. The calculation of flow in impellers plays a dominant role in the theoretical research and design of turbomachines. Three-dimensional flow fields can be obtained by the quasi-three-dimensional iterative calculation of the flows both on blade-to-blade stream surfaces and hub-to-shroud stream surfaces with the introduction of viscous loss model in order to consider a loss due to viscosity of fluid. In devising the loss model, four primary sources of losses were identified: (1) blade profile loss (2) end wall loss (3) secondary flow loss (4) tip-leakage loss. For the consideration of an axially parabolic distribution of loss, the results of present calcullation are well agreed with the results by experiment, thus the introduction of loss model is proved to be valid.

In the present paper, the numerical calculations for the viscous duct flow of water jet propulsion systems ship are carried out. The governing equation, incompressible Navier-Stokes equation, is discretized and analysed by a Method with the stcandard turbulence modeling. For the calculations the duct flow which h e intake flows disturbed by the ship, the results dcuhted by the potenti used Numerical results show fairly good agreement with the experimental data

An analytical model was developed to estimate the viscous and squeeze-film damping ratios of heat exchanger tubes subjected to a two-phase cross-flow. Damping information is required to analyze the flow-induced vibration problem for heat exchange tubes. In heat exchange tubes, the most important energy dissipation mechanisms are related to the dynamic interaction between structures such as the tube and support and the liquid. The present model was formulated considering the added mass coefficient, based on an approximate model by Sim (1997). An approximate analytical method was developed to estimate the hydrodynamic forces acting on an oscillating inner cylinder with a concentric annulus. The forces, including the damping force, were calculated using two models developed for relatively high and low oscillatory Reynolds numbers, respectively. The equivalent diameters for the tube bundles and tube support, and the penetration depth, are important parameters to calculate the viscous damping force acting on tube bundles and the squeeze-film damping forces on the tube support, respectively. To calculate the void fraction of a two-phase flow, a homogeneous model was used. To verify the present model, the analytical results were compared to the results given by existing theories. It was found that the present model was applicable to estimate the viscous damping ratio and squeeze-film damping ratio.

Performance predictions of the propulsion system were conducted for a 900㎏ class Canard Rotor/Wing vehicle. The main components of the propulsion system are turbojet engine, exhaust ducts and nozzles. The internal flow of the duct was considered as one-dimensional, compressible and viscous flow. Adequate governing equations including centrifugal force effect were applied to the analysis of the duct flows. Results such as available power, available thrust, engine throttle, mass flow rates, rotor RPM and cruise nozzle area were presented for rotary-wing mode and transition mode.

The complete, fully-elliptic Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations have been solved using a two-layer model, in the $\kappa-\varepsilon$ turbulence model, for the axisymmetric body. Numerically generated boundary-fitted coordinate system and the finite analytic methods are used to solve the governing equations. Calculations are started after the middle body with given inlet conditions. The velocities and the turbulent quantities at the inlet section are specified by solving the boundary layer equations or by standard flat-plate boundary profiles. The effects of the inlet conditions on the solution are investigated.
