  • The effect of far-infrared (FIR) irradiation on the antioxidant activity of extracts from rice hulls was evaluated. Rice hulls (9 g) were placed in Pyrex petri dishes (8.0 cm diameter) and irradiated at 80, 90, 100, 110, 120, 130 or 14$0^{\circ}C$ for 10,20,30,40,50 or 60 min with a FIR heater, respectively. After FIR irradiation, methanol extract of rice hulls was prepared, and total phenol contents (TPC) and radical scavenging activity (RSA) of the extracts were determined. FIR irradiation of rice hulls at 11$0^{\circ}C$ for 60 min increased TPC of the methanol extract from 51.6 $\mu$M to 104.3 $\mu$M compared to those of non-irradiated control. The irradiation at 12$0^{\circ}C$ for 60 min also increased RSA of the extract from 16.23% to 69.40%. These results indicated that appropriate FIR irradiation onto rice hulls could liberate the covalently bound phenolic compounds that have antioxidant activities.

  • This research was conducted to investigate antioxidant activities of Juglans mandshrica forages by the irradiation of far infrared ray during leaf drying processes before compound extraction, with its potential use for activating antioxidants. The contents of total phenolics and flavonoids in the basis of a gram leaf dry weight were maximized in 20 min at 30 V of far infrared irradiation. Total phenolic content was 25.43 mg/g in the FIR treatment, while it was 21.12 mg/g in the non-FIR treatment control. Total flavonoid content was 39.38 mg/g in the FIR treatment, while it was 32.78 mg/g in the non-FIR treatment control. The contents were decreased when the condition of far infrared ray irradiation was higher voltage and longer treatment time, exhibiting 16.93 mg/g of total phenolics and 23.78 mg/g of total flavonoids in 30 min at 50 V of far infrared irradiation. The antioxidant activities were shown to positive relationships with the contents of total phenolics and total flavonoids. In this study, we concluded that content of bioactive molecules relating antioxidant activity in Juglans mandshrica forages is optimized in 20 min at 30 V of far infrared irradiation for leaf drying process.

  • The effect of far-infrared (FIR) radiation on the antioxidant activity of extracts from Citrus unshiu peels (CPs) was evaluated. CPs (5 g) were placed in Pyrex petri dishes (8.0 cm diameter) and irradiated at 150$^{\circ}C$ for 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 min with a FIR heater. After FIR irradiation, 70% ethanol extract of CPs were prepared and total phenol contents (TPC), radical scavenging activity (RSA) and reducing power of the extracts were determined. FIR radiation of CPs at 150$^{\circ}C$ for 30 min increased the TPC and RSA of ethanol extract from 71.9${\mu}$M to 133.9 ${\mu}$M and from 29.64% to 51.27%, respectively, and reducing power was increased from 0.451 to 0.675, compared to those of non-irradiated control. These results indicated that FIR radiation onto CPs could liberate and activate covalently bound phenolic compounds that have antioxidant activities.

  • The effect of far-infrared (FIR) irradiation and heat treatment on the antioxidant activity of extracts from defatted soybean meal (DSM) was evaluated. DSM were placed in pyrex petri dishes (8.0 cm diameter) and irradiated at $150^{\circ}C$ for 5, 10, 15, 20, 40 or 60 min with a FIR heater or simple heater. After FIR irradiation or simple heat treatment at same conditions, methanol extracts of DSM were prepared and total phenol contents (TPC), radical scavenging activity (RSA) and reducing power of the extracts were determined. The antioxidant activities of the extracts increased as the time of heating or FIR-irradiation increased. When DSM were FIR-irradiated at $150^{\circ}C$ for 15 min, the values of TPC, RSA, and reducing power of the extracts increased from 31.62 mg/ml to 57.51 mg/ml, 11.6% to 53.1%, and 0.068 to 0.147, respectively, compared to the untreated controls. Simple heat treatment of DSM under the same conditions ($150^{\circ}C$ for 15 min) also increased the TPC, RSA, and reducing power of the extracts from to 58.04 mg/ml, 65.2% and 0.160, respectively. The results indicated that appropriate FIR-irradiation or heat treatment on DSM increased the antioxidant activities of methanolic extracts.

  • The effect of far-infrared (FIR) irradiation and heat treatment on the antioxidant activity of extracts from citrus pomaces (CP) was evaluated. CP were placed in pyrex petri dishes (8.0 cm diameter) and irradiated at $100^{\circ}C$ and $150^{\circ}C$ for 5, 10, 15, 20, 40 or 60 min with a FIR heater or simple heater, respectively. After FIR irradiation or simple heat treatment, 70% ethanol extracts (EE) and water extracts (WE) of CP were prepared and radical scavenging activity (RSA) and reducing power of the extracts were determined. The antioxidant activities of the extracts increased as the time of heating or FIR-irradiation increased. When CP were FIR-irradiated at $100^{\circ}C$ far 30min, the values of RSA and reducing power of EE increased from 14.9% to 44.2%, and 0.290 to 0.886, respectively, compared to the untreated control. Simple heat treatment of CP at $100^{\circ}C$ for 60 min also increased RSA and reducing power of EE to 44.7%, and 1.045, respectively. FIR irradiation and heat treatment increased RSA and reducing power of WE from CP, too. These results indicated the antioxidant activity of CP extracts was significantly affected by FIR irradiation and heating temperature and duration on CP, and that the FIR irradiation and heat treatment process can be used as a tool for increasing the antioxidant activity of CP.

  • The antioxidant activities of Phellinus igniarius (PI) and Ganoderma lucidum (GL) extracts were evaluated after far-infrared (FIR) irradiation. PI and GL were irradiated at $120^{\circ}C$ for 30, 60, 90 and 120 min with a FIR heater (2-14 ${\mu}m$), and then extracted by distilled water for 1 hr. Total sugar contents (TSC), total phenolic contents (TPC), radical scavenging ability (RSA), and reducing power (RP) were significantly increased by FIR irradiation. When PI was irradiated for 120 min, the TSC, TPC, RSA, and RP values of the PI extracts increased from 10.1 to 25.9 mg/g, 6.1 to 13.4 mg/g, 23.8 to 51.5%, and 0.222 to 0.363, respectively, compared to the untreated controls. The GL extracts, under the same conditions ($120^{\circ}C$ for 120 min), also increased in TSC, TPC, RSA, and RP from 11.1 to 22.6 mg/g, 2.5 to 5.8 mg/g, 14.5 to 18.6%, and 0.271 to 0.296, respectively. These results indicate that appropriate FIR irradiation of PI and GL could enhance the antioxidant activities of their extracts by increasing amounts of phenolic and sugar compounds.

  • Until now, simple shielding is the only way to prevent harmful electromagnetic: wave from TV and monitor. In this study, we adopted special ceramics to Braun tube for radiating FIR ray. In experiment on living organisms, there was some differences between general and ceramics treated Braun tube. The chrysanthemunm the drosophila and the tadpole which were in front of ceramics treated Braun tube showed longer living activity than those in front of general tube. As a result, it is proved that the ceramics treated Braun tube offers good effects to living organisms.

  • A new readout circuit(ROIC) for linear HgCdTe 64${\times}$2 two-color Infrared (IR) detector is described. This circuit is based on the buffered direct injection(BDI) technology with high injection efficiency. By using saturation current isolation circuit, the proposed ROIC removed the problems that LWIR(Long Wavelength InfraRed) signal distort when MWIR(Middle Wavelength InfraRed) signal saturates so that new ROIC has larger measurable temperature range about 120k than that of previous circuit and it is also tolerant for dead pixel in MWIR detector. The designed circuit was fabricated using 0.6um 2-poly 3-metal CMOS process. We measured that the designed circuit outputs MWIR signal and LWIR signal simultaneously and saturation current isolationcircuit also operates well. Next, measured noise was about 53uV at room temperature and it can be assumed that designed circuit can satisfy nearly 95% BLIP condition at 77K.
