  • It had been longer that the design mock-up was made mainly in order to test products. These days, it seems to be main stream that the working mockup is done because designers consider not only the design but also usability. In this study, the modular hardware toolkit, complimentary with Adobe Flash, was developed so that it solves the problem, the electronic hardware which the designers should struggle to make by themselves. This result thing could help the time of the design process to be short and contribute to make robust system rapidly.

Synthesis of Application on the Product Design for the Shielding of the Electromagnetic wave in the Electrical Appliances (전자 기기의 유해 전자파 차폐를 위한 친환경 제품 디자인 활용도 분석)

  • In this paper, the shielding material for the product design of various electrical appliances is suggested by more environmentally materials like as the lacquer and the charcoal. The suggested shielding material has the shielding effectiveness of 97.2%, 98.7%, and 96.3% at 900 MHz, 1.8 GHz, and 2.45 GHz, respectively. In the microwave oven and the cell phone, the metal or metal-coated plastic are used for the shielding of strong electromagnetic wave. However, by using more environmentally materials like as the lacquer and the charcoal, the products can be manufactured more light weighting, more heat-resisting, more abrasion resisting, and more corrosion resisting. Also, the products design can be varied more mellow and more friendly.

  • It takes only few seconds to find an artifact that has anthropomorphic form. There are numerous examples illustrating human's shape in daily life products. Usage of anthropomorphic form has been a basic design strategy especially when industrial designers design intelligent service robots because most of robot features were basically from human. Therefore, it's necessary to use anthropomorphic form not only in appearance design but also in interaction design. To use anthropomorphic form effectively, it needs to measure how much the artifact is similar to human, and then to evaluate whether the usage of anthropomorphic form fits to the artifact. This study's goal was to set up an evaluation standard for anthropomorphism for robot design. We suggest that there are three criteria for the evaluation standard. Those are 'anthropomorphic form in appearance', 'anthropomorphic form in Human-Robot Interaction', and 'accordance in two former criteria'. We expect that when designers put an evaluation step of anthropomophism in their design process of robots, robots might become more preferred by users, and easier to understand how to interact with.

  • 자동차 외장 부품은 미려한 외관과 경량화를 통한 연비향상을 위해 ABS수지 위에 다층 도금 공법이 적용된다. 하지만, 필드에서 종종 도금층의 부식에 대한 문제가 야기 되고 있다. 부식문제의 한 인자로 도금 두께의 불균일성을 들 수 있다. 도금공정에서 용액의 유동성, 제품이 걸리는 위치, 도금액의 불순물 등등 여러 가지 현장요소로 인해 도금 두께 편차가 생겨난다. 이러한 현장 요소와 함께 피도금물의 외형 형상 또한 도금 불균일의 주요한 원인이 된다. 특히, 제품 모서리 부분에서는 문제가 되는 과도금 현상이 쉽게 발생한다. 따라서, 도금 두께 편차를 줄이기 위해서는 도금 현장 요인을 분석하는 것도 중요하지만, ABS 제품의 외형 형상 디자인에 있어서 체계적인 접근이 필요하다. 그러나, 디자인의 구조적인 접근을 위해 현장에서 검증하려면 많은 비용과 시간이 소요된다. 이에 본 연구에서는 모서리 부분에서의 과도금 현상을 시뮬레이션을 활용하여 형상관점에서 과도금 형태 및 원인을 분석하고자 하였다.

A Study on Consumer Preference for Plastic Toilet Seats with Selective Automatic Supply of Recycled Water (재활용수의 선택적 자동공급이 가능한 플라스틱류 양변기 소비자 선호도에 관한 연구)

  • This study is about consumer preference of plastic toilets that can provide automatic supply of recycled water. First, the preference for plastic toilet seat design by gender and age group was preferred for gender type C and G for the sex. As the result of the chi-square test, the significance probability is .044 and the significance is P <.0 5. I could confirm that. Age, teens, 40 s, and 50 s or older prefer type C, 20 s and 30 s, but B type is not statistically significant. Second, the differences among the groups of preference for appearance design criteria according to general characteristics were all stable (stable appearance) in gender, age, region, education, and salary, but the chi-square test showed that they were not statistically significant. There was no difference between them. This study has implications for improving competitiveness and productivity by reducing the main production cost by commercializing toilets made of plastic materials.

A Study on Consumer Emotion for Social Robot Appearance Design: Focusing on Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) and Cluster Analysis (소셜 로봇 외형 디자인에 대한 소비자 감성에 관한 연구: 다차원 척도법 (MDS)과 군집분석을 중심으로)

  • In order for social robots to take root in human life, it is important to consider the technical implementation of social robots and human psychology toward social robots. This study aimed to derive potential social robot clusters based on the emotions consumers feel about social robot appearance design, and to identify and compare important design characteristics and emotional differences of each cluster. In our study, we established a social robot emotion framework to measure and evaluate the emotions consumers feel about social robots, and evaluated the emotions of social robot designs based on the semantic differential method, an kansei engineering approach. We classified 30 social robots into 4 clusters by conducting a multidimensional scaling method and K-means cluster analysis based on the emotion evaluation results, confirmed the characteristics of design elements for each cluster, and conducted a comparative analysis on consumer emotions. We proposed a strategic direction for successful social robot design and development from a human-centered perspective based on the design characteristics and emotional differences derived for each cluster.

Visualization of Teaching Assistant Robot's Image Based on Child's Mental Model (아동의 멘탈 모델에 근거한 교사보조로봇의 이미지 시각화)

  • This study is about the design of teaching assistant robots that helps elementary school teachers while giving lectures. It focuses on finding images which fits the role of teaching assistant robots, not merely suggesting several designs of robots that are just preferred by children. For this study, the qualities that satisfy the role of teaching assistant were studied by literature reviewing. These qualities were grouped and prioritized to arrange them as role images of teaching assistant robot, through questionnaire to teachers and student teachers. Using the role images and basic adjectives as standards, children performed the image mapping with the pictures of existing robots. This allowed us to find out how children accept the external features of each robot, and which external feature has to be used in order to reveal the role images. And taking form of workshop, children expressed their own images of a teaching assistant robot, a robot's height and location in classroom was surveyed. Based on these studies', three design guidelines of teaching assistant robot have been suggested.

A Study on External Form Design Factors of Teaching Assistant Robots for the Elementary School - With Emphasis on the Impression According to Body Feature - (초등학교 교사보조로봇의 외형 디자인 요소에 대한 연구 - 체형에 따른 인상을 중심으로 -)

  • The aim of this paper is to suggest a design guideline for a teaching assistant robot by finding out images that satisfy the role of the teaching assistant robot, and to search for a body features that show such images. Role images of teaching assistant robots were established from literature review and factor analysis. And eight elements of body features were extracted from human's elements of body feature. Robot external form samples varied according to the body feature was modeled three-dimensionally. Children, who are the main users of teaching assistant robots, valuated the 3D robot samples projected onto wall in real size. The valuation basis was role images of teaching assistant robots, adjectives about age and gender, preference, and appropriateness as teaching assistant robots. The result of valuation was analyzed by analysis of variance, and analysis of correlation. The result revealed the fact that four elements of body feature (the ratio of head length, height, the ratio of breast girth, and waist girth) were related to role images. Among these elements, height and waist girth was more important than the rest, particularly, waist girth had strong relation with all the role images. Also, in order to reveal tender and kind image, the ratio of head length was proved to have to be adjusted according to waist girth. On the basis of these result, a design guideline for a teaching assistant robot was suggested.

  • 최근 한 자녀 가정이 늘어나면서 아동의 정서적 안정을 위해 반려동물을 키우는 가정이 늘고 있다. 그러나 맞벌이, 알레르기 등 기타 요인으로 실제 동물을 키우기 힘든 환경의 가정이 많다. 본 연구에서는 인터렉티브 동물 장난감이 반려동물의 대안이 될 수 있는지 조사해 보고 그의 필요성과 발전 방향을 모색한다. 만 4세~9세 자녀를 둔 10개 가구를 대상으로 Ethnography 연구조사를 통해 다각도로 관찰하여 결론을 제시한다. 인터렉티브 동물 장난감의 외형 및 목적에 따라 두 개의 그룹으로 나누어 부모를 통한 근접 관찰 및 아동과 부모의 사전/사후 설문 등을 통해 현재 인터렉티브 동물 장난감이 아동에게 줄 수 있는 영향을 분석해 보고, 아동과 정서적 상호작용을 하는 목적으로 발전하기 위한 방향성을 제시한다.

  • This research is for selection of animal and establishment of guideline which for animal robot design for the purpose of emotionally disturbed children's psychotherapy. In the case of emotionally disturbed children because of poor expression about themselves's emotional condition, there are many restriction in the existing cure and educational method. Using research method of animal shape robot which is starting to make attempt since the late 1990s is effective to learning disturbed children. For the development of animal robot for psychotherapy of emotionally disturbed children first of all which animal is selected is very important. Therefore at the early stage of research preference surveyed to children including emotionally disturbed children and decide an object of animal robot. And what kind of shape is very preferred is also preference surveyed. Through focusing group interview about shape, color, facial expression, sound, and move which have an influence on outward shape design of robot, present the guideline which is needed to animal robot design for emotionally disturbed children.
