  • Paper & pencil test provides limited informations about student. So many web-based computerized test systems are developed and tried. But These systems have drawbacks that cannot visit previous or next problems freely. So These systems cannot get deep informations such as elapsed time of each problem, history of answer modification, the number of visit time of each problem. These deep informations are very important in educational evaluation area. Therefore we develop educational evaluation system can get these deep informations including basic informations. And then we apply paper & pencil test and our system to 67 students, and execute survey. The reason of survey is to ascertain availabilty of our system.

  • Recently speed control system of the towing carriage have been modified by applying a personal computer in the Ship Model Towing Tank of Seoul National University. With this system the carriage speed could be controled precisely in coincidently with a prescribed speed diagram to evaluate the effect of slight towing speed fluctuation caused by some residual current or standing waves which have believed as trivial phenomena in the towing tank. It is found that the slight speed fluctuation of the carriage could lead to serious error in measurement of resistance test of a ship.

  • The purpose of this treatise is to show merits and method of establishing Lotte department store design division Online Documents Communication System through illustration of examples of intranet in which internet environment convenient to use for its openness is applied for establishing Design Online Documents Communication System for fundamentals of organization. In this connection merits and effect attainable from establishing Design Outline Documents Communication System of the enterprise as found were as follows: Firstly, it brought about reduction in workload of staffs through sharing various existing resources. It reduced redundant works and enables speedy handling of works. Secondly, it was possible to exchange viewpoints and share information by pertinent parties. Thirdly, by expediting information exchange and communication among persons in charge it was possible to improve work efficiency. Fourthly, it was possible to build and operate such system at relatively low cost on the basis of web browser. Without using any other significant instrument or equipment but by linking it to business network and using existing computer system operation was possible. Fifthly, by common sharing of work exclusive to design room through on-line it was possible to improve professionalism and convenience in data preservation. Through this treatise and survey and study on process for establishing intranet it was possible to find that there were sharing work, improving work efficiency, reducing workload, saving cost and expediting communication to a significant degree.

  • As the number of online documents increases enormously with the expansion of information technology, the importance of automatic document classification is greatly enlarged. In this paper, an automatic document classification method is investigated and applied to UseNet 20 newsgroup articles to test its efficacy. The classification system uses Naive Bayes classification algorithm and the experimental result shows that a randomly selected newsgroup arcicle can be classified into its own category over 77% accuracy.

  • 현재 대학은 온오프라인 경계가 무너지고 있다. 온라인을 통한 지식공유 활용이 활발해지고 정보기술의 발달에 따라 서서히 사이버대학으로 전환될 전망이다. 거기에 대학을 졸업한 인력들이 사이버대학으로 U턴하는 현상이 두드러지고 있다. 사이버대학의 가장 큰 장점은 시간과 공간에 구애 받지 않고 학습할 수 있다는 점이다. 하지만 사이버대학의 학습평가 방법은 많은 약점을 드러내고 있다. 본 논문에서는 사이버대학의 평가방법중 주관식유형의 평가시스템을 제안한다.

  • As of March 2005, the standard of traffic signal controllers became effective. The standard presents specifications and functions of a traffic signal controller which collects traffic information, sends it to the traffic control center, and controls traffic signal with adequate traffic signal timing provided by the traffic control center. Since the controllers by the previous standard lack parts compatibility and have different control functions and communication protocol, the maintenance cost has been increased. Also, some important functions like conflict detection have not worked out perfectly. To overcome these disadvantages, first of all, this standard secures hardware compatibility. Conflict detection method has been enhanced. Communication protocol to the traffic control center was included in the standard. With this standard, independent maintenance system and prompt treatment of hardware malfunctions becomes possible. Also, the unified intersection traffic control method will increase traffic safety.

Feature Extraction based FE-SONN for Signature Verification (서명 검증을 위한 특정 기반의 FE-SONN)

  • This paper proposes an approach to verify signature using autonomous self-organized Neural Network Model , fused with fuzzy membership equation of fuzzy c-means algorithm, based on the features of the signature. To overcome limitations of the functional approach and Parametric approach among the conventional on-line signature recognition approaches, this Paper presents novel autonomous signature classification approach based on clustering features. Thirty-six globa1 features and twelve local features were defined, so that a signature verifying system with FE-SONN that learns them was implemented. It was experimented for total 713 signatures that are composed of 155 original signatures and 180 forged signatures yet 378 original signatures written by oneself. The success rate of this test is more than 97.67$\%$ But, a few forged signatures that could not be detected by human eyes could not be done by the system either.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore improvable proposal of instruction through analyzing learners' needs and satisfaction for college of engineering. Based on the online survey date with undergraduate students in Seoul National University, recognition difference between students in college of engineering and all students in SNU was identified. Among several factors influenced on learners' satisfaction in class, it is shown that satisfaction to facilities is higher than any other factor related to instruction. Generally, satisfaction with teaching in class is lower while satisfaction to an extrinsic support to students is high. Therefore, instructors should be more concerned about teaching in class. Learners' satisfaction with instructors' feedback to assignments and tests is significantly higher in college of engineering. However, learners' satisfaction with the progress of classwork and assignment students should perform regularly is lower than one in other colleges.

Elastic Wave Detection using Fiber Optic FBG Sensor (광섬유 FBG 센서를 이용한 탄성파 검출)

  • Acoustic emission(AE) has emerged as a powerful nondestructive tool to detect or monitor preexisting defects and leaks in the vessel structures. A Bragg grating based acoustic emission sensor system is developed. Various type of fiber Bragg grating sensor including the variable length of sensing part was fabricated and prototype sensor system was tested by using PZT pulser and pencil lead break sources. Two types of sensor attachment were used. First, the fiber Bragg grating sensor was attached fully to the surface using bonding agent. Second one is that one part of fiber was attached to the surface partly by bonding and the other part of fiber will be act as a cantilever. That is, the resonant frequency of the fiber Bragg grating sensor will depend on the length of sensing part. The final goal of the sensor system is to provide on-line monitoring of cracks or leaks in reactor vessel head penetration of nuclear power plants.

  • The higher thinking skills, such as creativity and problem-solving about a given problem, are difficult to assess and diagnose. For an accurate diagnosis of these higher thinking abilities, we need to fully observe learner's problem-solving process or learner's individual reports. However, in an online learning or virtual class environments, evaluation of learner's problem-solving process becomes more difficult to diagnose. The best way to solve this problem is through reporting by tracking learner's actions when he tries to solve a problem. In this study, we developed a module which can evaluate and diagnose student's problem-solving ability by tracking actions in MS-Office suite, which is used by students to solve a given problem. This module performs based on the learner's job history through user tracking. To evaluate the effectiveness of this diagnostic module, we conducted satisfaction survey from students who were preparing the actual MOS exams. As a result, eighty-one (81) of the participants were positive on the effectiveness of the learning system with the use of this module.
