As the issue of selling wine online has been raised in an attempt to implement FTA programs in a more effective way, wine will be available online in the near future in Korea. Thus, this study aimed at identifying key factors which will contribute to reduce various kinds of risks perceived by online customers, and investigating the structural relationships between those factors and perceived risks. Site quality of online wine shop(information quality, system quality), trust in online wine shop were selected as key predictors of perceived risks and research model was established using those factors. Data were collected from those who have experienced in using online wine store, and the research model was tested using valid data. Results of testing research hypotheses using data from survey respondents showed that information and system quality exerted an impact on trust in online wine shop. It was proven that information and system quality posited an impact on time risk whereas they was not related to performance and psychological risk. In addition, trust in online wine shop was shown to be related to time risk, performance risk, and psychological risk.
This study intents to discover the variables impacting consumer's purchase intention through the electronic commerce based on concerning the Flow experience in an environment using computer as a medium and furthermore it is based on a premise that its influence on purchase intention can vary. The following are the synopsis and findings of our analysis. First, analyzing the awareness of perceived risk and level of involvement depending on the level of skill and challenge, which are conceptual structural dimensions, we found that, the higher the level of skill, the lower the awareness of perceived risk, and for challenge, the level of involvement increased. Second, since the sense of perceived risk, level of involvement and purchase intention had a negative influence and were found to have cognizable relationship with one another statistically, this has negative impact on the level of involvement depending on the level of sense of perceived risk in electronic commerce. Third, analyzing the purchase intention depending on the level of involvement, we found out it has a highly positive influence on purchase intention. Furthermore, the level of involvement and purchase intention were found to be closely related to each other.
The e-marketplace is a virtual marketplace where buyers and sellers meet in order to conduct transactions through the intermediation of market-makers. For the success of an e-marketplace, it is crucial for the market-maker to induce both buyers and sellers to make active transactions in it. However, their participation is frequently deterred by potential risk factors caused mainly by the inherent, structural complexity of the e-marketplace. Therefore, it is a critical challenge for the market-maker to identify and manage the transactional risk perceived by both the buyers and sellers. In this paper, we investigate the sources of buyers' and sellers' perceived risks and their mitigating factors in the e-marketplace. Specifically, we derive an analysis framework based on the economic theory of agency relationship. The framework includes four sources of the risks(perceived information asymmetry, fears of seller opportunism, fears of buyer opportunism, and concerns about market-maker's role incompleteness) and five mitigators of the risks(website informativeness, trust in market-maker, trust in seller, product diagnosticity, and social presence). Then, we empirically verify the framework through a case study on four successful e-marketplaces, and provide implications and strategies for the market-maker to effectively manage the transactional risks.
This study illustrates factors that determine consumer types based on ways in which they alternate between online and offline channels for searching and eventually buying their desired products. This study conducted an online survey targeting 1,040 consumers. As per the study, consumer types fall into five groups: 1) on-on type(online search${\rightarrow}$online buying), 2) off-off type(offline search${\rightarrow}$offline buying), 3) on-off type(online search${\rightarrow}$offline buying), 4) off-on type(offline search${\rightarrow}$online buying), and, 5) on-off-on type(online search${\rightarrow}$ offline search${\rightarrow}$nline buying). The primary factors that determine how the different consumer types switch between online and offline channels are price orientation, convenience orientation,, risk-aversion orientation, and channel familiarity. Although they feel cross-channel shopping can be cumbersome, the findings show that cross-channel consumers would gladly switch channels to buy cheaper and proven products. The findings of this study will be useful for businesses that have both online and offline channels and point out the theoretical aspects of the decision-making process as consumers switch between channels.
The product categories that can be sold on-line are expanding. It is interesting to see which product categories have more sales possibilities on internet. Small-sized firms' products have low distribution coverage, low brand recognition, bigger dispersion in the perception on the values which consist of quality vs. price, and higher possibilities of perceived purchase risks. Since on-line shopping is supposed to provide opportunities to small-sized firms that have low distribution and brand power, it is quite necessary to evaluate the fitness of on-line sales for small-sized firms' product categories. There are virtually no research studies on the on-line sales for small-sized firms' product categories. In this study, based on the integration of SEC, FCB, and related concepts, we develop new theoretical framework and test the fitness of on-line sales for small-sized firms' product categories by conducting empirical analysis. The empirical results on 17 product categories show that SEC, FCB, purchase risks, brand factors are somewhat related. Unlike previous studies, since the fitness of SEC and on-line sales are not clearly shown, we need to consider those problems within inter-related multiple frameworks. That is, it is necessary to evaluate the fitness of on-line sales after defining the product categories within the integrated multiple frameworks rather than within the single framework.
This study is set out to investigate the factors that influence customers' behavior of choice and switching between online and offline channels, separating the purchase decision into two stages, i.e., information search and purchase. Factors influencing channel choice are found to differ from stage to stage. The main results of this study are as follows. At the information search stage, customers' channel knowledge had impacts on the choice of the channel. Customers are more likely to visit offline bookstores when they have hedonic shopping orientation and higher involvement level with books. On the contrary, customers are more apt to search online when they have a lot of online shopping experiences. At the purchase stage, the results varied according to the search channel. When customers search for information online, the following variables lead to online purchases: online shopping experiences with books, price-focused shopping orientation, and time availability for shopping. Perceived risk made customers purchase offline even though they searched online. In case of offline searching, customers with more convenience-focused, hedonic-focused shopping orientation and less tim availability purchased offline.
This study is designed to examine differences in the well known relationship between risk perception and purchase intention when shopping fashion products Online. In addition, the role of attitude in the process was investigated. 155 Korean college students and 165 U.S. college students participated in the study. Structural equation modeling with risk factors(product delivery, transaction, service) as antecedents, purchase intention as the consequence, and attitude as the mediating variable were analyzed. Results indicated that, for Korean respondents, product delivery risk and transaction risk had significant indirect effect on purchase intention through attitude. Service risk had significant direct effect. For U.S. respondents, product delivery risk had both direct and indirect effect on purchase intention whereas transaction risk had only indirect effect. Service risk did not have significant influence on purchase intention.
A review of the related literature indicates that consumers' risk perceptions are largely affected by product involvement. This study investigates the impact of product involvement on required trust level and the online merchant choice. We developed a conceptual model that depicts the nomological relationships among product involvement, required trust level, and the online merchant choice, and formulated three hypotheses based on the conceptual model. An empirical study designed to accomplish the research objectives has been conducted using a questionnaire survey with 230 students in a university in Korea. The findings indicated that high-involvement products have higher trust level as required by consumers than low-involvement products, that consumers buying high-involvement products prefer digital storefronts, and that consumers buying low-involvement products prefer B2C e-marketplaces. The paper offers implications for academics as well as practitioners, based on the research results.

This study investigates the factors influencing consumer's channel selection for luxury fashion items, specifically the effect of (i) perceived luxury benefits, (ii) perceived online shopping risks, (iii) demographics, and (iv) purchasing behavior. A survey questionnaire was developed and implemented to measure the perceived luxury benefits, perceived online shopping risks, purchasing behaviors, and consumer demographics. A total of 396 responses were analyzed by one-way ANOVA, cross-tab, and multinomial logit analysis with SPSS18.0. The results are as follows. First, those who shop in offline shopping channels tend to be heavy buyers that look for product quality and conspicuousness. They perceive low risks from online shopping and purchase few bag items offline. Second, those who shop online tend to be men and perceive the high benefits of economic value. Third, those who shop in multi channels tend to be men, search for information via the Internet, and purchase few accessory items. Implications for multichannel strategies are suggested.
