  • The effects of number, source, and sequence of analogs on middle school students' concept recall and application were investigated. Based on the number (one/two) and source(everyday/science) of analogs, four types of learning materials were developed and pilot-tested. Prior to the treatment the field dependence/independence (FD/l) test was administered and the scores were used as a blocking variable. The learning materials were read by randomly assigned middle school students (N=88), and the concept recall and application test was administered immediately and four weeks later. In the immediate and retention tests, there were no significant main effects of number, source, and sequence of analogs. In the application problems of retention test. however, there were some significant interaction effects with students' FD/I. Field-independent students who learned with two analogs scored significantly higher than those who learned with one analog. In the case of using two analogs, field-dependent students who learned with everyday-analog first scored significantly higher than those who learned with science-analog first.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an effective teaching model for the "Problem solving methods and procedures" section in the revised academic high school informatics curriculum, verify its effectiveness, make the subject more effective and appealing to teachers as well as students. The model includes a middle school level informatics curriculum for the students who have yet to learn the section. This development follows the ADDIE model, and the Python programming language is adopted for the model. Using the model, classes were conducted with two groups: high school computer club students and undergraduate students majoring in computer education. Of the undergraduate students 75% responded positively to the model. This model was applied in the actual high school classroom teaching for 23 class-hours in the spring semester 2012. The Pearson correlation coefficient that verifies the correspondence between the PSI score and the informatics midterm exam grade is .247, which reflects a weak positive correlation. The result of the study showed that the developed teaching model is an effective tool in educating students about the "problem solving methods and procedures". The model is to be a cornerstone of teaching/learning plans for informatics at academic high school as well as training materials for pre-service teachers.

  • This study analyzes the field practicum experiences of adult learners in social welfare and discusses areas for improvement. The field practicum is an essential process and training course for becoming a social worker. Through the practicum experience, learners gain a valuable opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings and understand their future roles as prospective social workers. However, if the field practicum does not adequately reflect the characteristics of adult learners, it may be difficult to ensure a successful practicum experience. For adult learners to successfully complete their social welfare practicum, integrated and consistent support from both the university and practicum institutions is essential. In particular, the challenges adult learners may face, such as difficulties in time management, psychological stress, and the gap between theory and practice, must be addressed. Most importantly, thorough preparation before the practicum is necessary to ensure success.
