Numerical Investigation of Low-pollution Combustion with applying Flue Gas Recirculation in Counterflow Flames: Part II. Analysis of NOx formation mechanism (대향류 화염에서 FGR이 적용된 저공해 연소의 수치적 해석: Part II. NOx 생성기구 분석)

  • Flue gas recirculation(FGR) is an effective combustion technique for reducing nitrogen oxides(NOx) and is applied in various fields of low-pollution combustion. Continuing the previous study, a numerical analysis was conducted to identify changes of flame characteristics and NOx formation mechanism with applying FGR technique in CH4/air premixed counterflow flames. NOx emitted was divided into four main reaction paths(thermal NO, prompt NO, N2H and N2O), showing relatively the production rate of NO with the recirculation ratio. As a result, thermal NO contributed greatly to the overall NO whereas the effect of N2H was minimal. In addition, emission index of NO was compared as the recirculation ratio increased by modifying the UC San Diego mechanism to examine the contribution of thermal NO.

  • From the previous researches about flow characteristic of micro-nozzle, we found that viscosity and back pressure induced heavy losses in micro nozzle. To overcome thess losses, we began to study new conceptual micro propulsion system that is thermal transpiration based micro propulsion system. It has no moving parts and can pump the gaseous propellant by temperature gradient only (cold to hot). Most of previous research on thermal transpiration is in its early stage and mainly studied for application to small vacuum facility or gas chromatography in ambient condition using nanoporous material like aerogel. In this study, we focus on basic research of propulsion system based on thermal transpiration using polyimide material in vacuum conditions.

Fuel Concentration and Flame Temperature Distribution in Model Gas Turbine Combustor with Various Spray Angles (모형가스터빈 연소기에서 분무각 변화에 따른 연료농도 및 화염온도 분포)

  • Jet-A spray and combustion were numerically analyzed in annular type combustor model using KIVA3V. The combustor geometry have 6 dilute holes. Swirl effect and thermal NO were considered in this investigation to analyze mixing and combustion characteristics. Fuel vapor, flame temperature, NO generation were investigated for various spray angle. As increase of spray angle, Jet-A vapor appeared uniformly in primary zone and evaporation rate was increased. Mixing between fuel vapor and ambient gas was enhanced as increase of spray angle. As a result, high temperature region appeared widely and thermal NO generation rate was increased.

  • In this paper, experiment of thermal conductivity among thermal properties for CCS insulation material was carried out under the condition ranged from room temperature to cryogenic temperature. CCS insulation system should be sustained under cryogenic temperature($-163^{\circ}C$), and lots of investigations will be conducted how to block the heat to insulation material. CCS components which consist of various materials are especially the main interests, and how the temperature of the entire CCS along the location is should be investigated through these studies. With the experimental thermal properties, the steady state thermal analysis of the entire cargo system was conducted. When the LNG leaked through the insulation system with external impact, temperature distribution and thermal safety of secondary barrier, especially plywood and hull structure, was observed.

  • Minimization of nozzle induces many flow losses in micro-propulsion system. In this study, we studied about thermal transpiration based micro propulsion system to overcome these losses. Thermal transpiration device(Knudsen pump) having no moving parts can self-pump the gaseous propellant by temperature gradient only (cold to hot). We designed, fabricated the Knudsen pump and analyzed pressure gradient efficiency of membrane according to Knudsen number under vacuum condition. Experimental results showed that thick membranes are more effective than thin membranes in transition flow regime, and pressure gradient efficiency according to Knudsen number is increased to maximum 82% apart from membrane thickness in free molecular regime.

  • Minimization of conventional propulsion device has been studied for altitude control of micro satellite. We studied micro nozzle performance and found higher significant loss for a micro nozzle with smaller nozzle throat diameter. To overcome this loss, we proposed thermal transpiration based micro propulsion system. This new system has no moving parts and can control flow by temperature gradient, and this can be an option for potential new micro propulsion system.

A Study on the Thermal Behaviors of Disk Brake and Pad by Friction Heat (디스크 브레이크와 패드의 마찰열에 의한 열적거동에 관한 연구)

  • This paper analyzes the thermal behaviors of genuine discs used in automobiles and discs coming out of tuning products through FEM analysis. Modeling with genuine disk modeling and tuning disks Model-1, Model-2, Model-3 and analyzing the disk rotation speed was set to 1000rpm. When the brake is operated, the thermal behavior of the disk surface, such as the operating temperature caused by the disk and pad contact, the friction surface temperature after the disk stop, and the thermal deformation, were analyzed. When the brake was activated (0-4.5 seconds), the tuning disk showed 34℃ higher than the original disk, and after the disk stopped (40.5 seconds), the tuning disk was analyzed 18℃ lowe, deformation due to the disk heat was deformed by 0.3mm for the tuning disk. Although there is an effect to reduce the fading phenomenon due to the thermal behavior of the pure disk and the tuning disk, it can be observed that there is no significant change in the thermal behavior due to the hole processing and the disk surface processing of the tuning disk.

  • PAN은 1950년 중반 스모그 챔버연구원에서 'Compound X'라고 규정된 광화학 2차 오염물질로 강한 햇빛, NMHCs과 NOx의 존재하에서 이들 반응에 의해 형성된 물질이다 (Stephen, 1969) PAN은 눈을 자극하고, 식물에 대해 독성을 나타내며, 변이성과 발암을 유발할 가능성도 가지고 있다. 또한 PAN은 열적으로 불안정하여 상온에서 쉽게 NO2와 Peroxyaceyl radical로 분해 되며, 저온에서는 안정되게 존재하여 특히 상층 대류권을 통한NO2의 장거리 수송과 NO2의 reservoir역할을 한다.
