  • Secondary school science teachers' preception on inquiry learning was investigated by using questionnaires. According to these results, science teachers, who are participants of the current Korea National Science Curriculum, responded that raising the 'interest in science' was the most important objective of science education, and using practical scientific subject matters in class will do such. More than 72% of science teachers have used reconstructed materials. When reconstructed textbook contents were used, teachers through that the most important object is the 'acquirement of scientific knowledge'. Most science teachers perceived inquiry leaning as a student centered open investigation. Among factors that disturb inquiry leaning, critical ones were 'entrance examination', 'lake of teaching-leaning materials', 'little understanding of inquiry leaning', and 'lake of student's will to inquiry'.

  • Confucius made endless thoughts on such themes as enlightening for the internal value of human, how to draw out such value and how to make personal relationship in order to overcome the chaotic Chun-qiu age. The spirit of 'Harmony but not Sameness' stated by Confucius passes us the theoretical meaning for making a good relationship with the others, which is realization of Benevolence. The spirit of 'Harmony but not Sameness' pursues moral, public and golden-mean value. This pursuit is made to look for harmonization and coexistence in personal relation, community based relation and, furthermore, relation with the nature, so that a great man is an entirely-good person who has realized the spirit of 'Harmony but not Sameness'. The spirit of 'Harmony but not Sameness' throws to us many issues to think of for the social unity, 'living together', which is the central theme of today. The objects for which the 'living together' shall be embodied are the minor groups of our society and those who are relatively expelled from the power and benefit including multi-culture based families, north Korean refugees and etc. Such open mind for harmonization and coexistence gives us, furthermore, another important issue to think of also in the matter of environment that includes the ecosystem and the entire nature.

  • At a moment in which the entire culture and arts field is in crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the audience development strategies practiced by arts organizations require significant adaptation. In this paper we consider the theater for young audiences, Youngji, produced by the TYA(Theater for Young Audiences) Research Center(TYARC) of the National Theater Company of Korea (NTCK). We examine how an arts organization develops youth audiences and creates a participatory culture when normal non-face-to-face engagement is not possible. We applied an Action Research methodology to our research filed, which allowed us to track continuous change based on the evolving practices and contingencies of one arts sector organization. Using Brown and Novak-Leonard's (2011) audience involvement spectrum, Koste's (1995) concept of creative drama, and Moore's (1993) transactional distance theory, we explored the possibility of active audience development by analyzing the ways in which NTCK's arts education has adapted its approach to audience development. We find that, even in this non-face-to-face era, it is possible to effectively develop youth audiences through a dramatic play that continues from play to drama.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify heuristically how abduction was used in a context of solving an earth-environmental problem. Thirty two groups of participants with different institutional backgrounds, i,e., inservice earth science teachers, preservice science teachers, and high school students, solved an open-ended earth-environmental problem and produced group texts in which their ways of solving the problem were written, The inferential processes in the texts were rearranged according to the syllogistic form of abduction and then analyzed iteratively so as to find thinking strategies used in the abductive reasoning. The result showed that abduction was employed in the process of solving the earth-environmental problem and that several thinking strategies were used for inferring rules from which abductive conclusions were drawn. The strategies found included data reconstruction, chained abduction, adapting novel information, model construction and manipulation, causal combination, elimination, case-based analogy, and existential strategy. It was suggested that abductive problems could be used to enhance students' thinking abilities and their understanding of the nature of earth science and earth-environmental problems.

The targeted level is elementary students, To do this, the definition of problem solving, its processes, and advantages or pitfalls of computer-based problem solving learning were examined, with the advantage of using WWW as an educational tool. The theme of implemented courseware was selected from SATIS which is relevant for the problem solving learning. The courseware has three main parts; learning activity module, teaching activity module, and learning tool module. The learning activity module controls courseware flows and was implemented in accordance with the problem-based teaming processes. It: can be proceeded either sequential way or random access by setting linker. The advantage of random accessing method is that it may facilitate student learning because each student can regulate their learning processes which correspond to their own experiences. The teaching activity module provides for teachers useful informations for helping student's learning and it also can be used as an assessment tool for student's achievements, The learning: tool module consists of conversational note, e-mail address, help, and search tool. It is linked with learning activity module and teaching activity module so that teachers and students can actively participate in teaching-learning processes.

  • This study is a theoretical research to explore ways to effectively learn AI in the age of intelligent information driven by artificial intelligence (hereinafter referred to as AI). The emphasis is on presenting a teaching method to make AI education accessible not only to students majoring in mathematics, statistics, or computer science, but also to other majors such as humanities and social sciences and the general public. Given the need for 'Explainable AI(XAI: eXplainable AI)' and 'the importance of storytelling for a sensible and intelligent machine(AI)' by Patrick Winston at the MIT AI Institute [33], we can find the significance of research on AI storytelling learning model. To this end, we discuss the possibility through a pilot study targeting general students of an university in Daegu. First, we introduce the AI storytelling(AI+ST) learning method[30], and review the educational goals, the system of contents, the learning methodology and the use of new AI tools in the method. Then, the results of the learners are compared and analyzed, focusing on research questions: 1) Can the AI+ST learning method complement algorithm-driven or developer-centered learning methods? 2) Whether the AI+ST learning method is effective for students and thus help them to develop their AI comprehension, interest and application skills.

To this end, business capabilities were subdivided into industry expertise and customer management expertise. Digital capabilities were subdivided into SNS activity, ease of ICT usability, and business utilization of ICT. At the same time, we examined how the moderating effect of performance of personal media education. A survey was conducted to empirically analyze this, and 200 sample who received personal media education were analyzed. SPSS 24.0 and Macro Process 4.0 were used for statistical analysis. As a result of the empirical analysis of this study, industry expertise, customer management expertise, SNS activity, and business utilization of ICT, all had a positive (+) significant effect on business satisfaction. On the other hand, the significant influence relationship on the ease of ICT usability was not tested. Industry expertise and business utilization of ICT were found to be variables that had a great influence. It was analyzed that personal media education performance plays a moderating role between SNS activity, business utilization of ICT and business satisfaction. The results of this study are meaningful in that they empirically analyze that these capabilities affect business satisfaction even for small businesses at a time when the importance of digital capabilities increases.

  • The purposes of the study were to identify a comprehensive competency list related to the jobs of nutrition teachers and to compare the competency needs for nutrition teachers and dieticians' competency levels. Job functional areas and a competency list for nutrition teachers were developed based on a review of literature and revised through expert panel reviews. A total of 53 competency statements associated with 11 job functional areas were specified. Questionnaires were distributed to 457 dieticians engaged in school food service and 148 responses were returned (response rate: 32.4%). Excluding incomplete responses, 142 questionnaires were used for data analysis. Approximately half of the respondents were enrolled in an 1-year nutrition teacher certificate program, 25% in a graduate school of nutrition education, and 19% had completed an 1-year nutrition teacher certificate program. The dieticians highly rated requirements of the competencies related to sanitation and employee safety, nutrition counseling, nutrition education, and teaching practices; in contrary, their competency levels for nutrition education, nutrition counseling, and teaching practices were low. Respondents' competency levels were significantly lower than the required competency levels of effective nutrition teachers in all functional areas. A quadratic analysis based on the requirement and self-evaluation of the competencies revealed that priorities of education programs targeting school nutrition teachers or students preparing to be nutrition teachers should be placed on improving competencies related to nutrition education, nutrition counseling, teaching practices, sanitation and employee safety, menu management, and human resource management. These results can be used to develop curriculum materials for basic and continuing professional education for nutrition teachers. It is necessary to review and update competencies regularly to reflect environmental changes in school food service programs.

  • In this study, we examined classroom interaction to explore the relationships among teacher questions, turn-taking patterns, and student talks in mathematics classrooms. We analyzed lessons given by three elementary teachers (two first-grade teachers and one second-grade teacher) who worked in the same school using a conversation-analytic approach. We observed individual classrooms three times in a year. The results revealed that when teachers provided open-ended questions, such as "why and how" questions and "agree and disagree" questions, and used a non-IRE pattern (teacher initiation-student response-teacher feedback; Mehan, 1979), students more actively engaged in classroom discourse by justifying their ideas and refuting others' thinking. Conversely, when teachers provided closed-ended questions, such as "what" questions, and used an IRE pattern, students tended to give short answers focusing on only one point. The findings suggested teachers should use open-ended questions and non-IRE turn-taking patterns to create an effective math-talk learning community. In addition, school administrators and mathematics educators should support teachers to acquire practical knowledge regarding this approach.
