  • This study was carried out to find out the acquisition effect by measurement periods of adult learners learning through English pattern practice. The subjects of this study were divided into adult learner groups including the learners in their 40s and those who were over 65 and the child group who were 8 years old as a comparative group. After the subjects had a pre-test at first, person agreement and tense were instructed though English pattern practice and right after that, they had a post-test. Then 4 weeks later, they had a delayed test. As a result, the acquisition result of adult learners learning though English pattern practice showed the largest rise by those in their 40s and the learners of those over 65. However the adult learners aged over 65 showed the largest drop in delayed test of the reading comprehension. Based on these results, it is necessary to develop teaching method for adult learners in consideration of their characters and weak points.

  • This study aimed to investigate speech motor control in adults who stutter (AWS) by testing whether articulation rate changes with practice and linguistic complexity. Eleven AWS and 11 adults who do not stutter (AWNS) repeated four sentences of different lengths and syntactic complexity [simple-short (SS), simple-long (SL), complex-long (CL), and faulty-long (FL) sentences]. Overall articulation rates of each sentence were measured and compared between groups. Practice effects were evaluated by comparing the articulation rates of the first three, middle four, and last three productions. Overall, the AWS had significantly slower articulation rates than AWNS across the four sentences. The longer sentences showed significantly slower articulation rates than the baseline sentence (SS). The articulation rates of the middle four and the last three productions were significantly faster than those of the first three productions of each sentence in both groups. The articulation rates of the SS, SL, and CL sentences indicated a consistent practice effect. The slower articulation rates of the AWS are consistent with a speech motor limitation. There was no interaction with linguistic complexity or practice, so a slower articulation rate may be a general feature of the speech of AWS. Both AWS and AWNS showed practice effects with faster articulation rates which may reflect a degree of adaptation to the stimuli.

  • This study introduces conducting practice tool for conducting majoring students. There have been various types of related research, but most of them have not been optimized for the conducting major. In addition, we thought that it would be a tool to be able to carry like a musical instrument in order to practice conducting without restriction of place and time. And also, it will be one of the few tools to focus on queuing. The practice tool presented in this study use the Doppler effect to overcome the limitations of previous studies. It was concluded that the Doppler method, which is highly compatible, simple, and accurate, is superior to motion detection methods using existing sensors. It is expected that it will be used not only as a conducting but also as an interaction tool of various media.

  • On this study, we have developed respiratory training system to improve stability of respiration, one of the most important factors of Respiratory Gated Radiation Therapy, RGRT. Respiratory training system that we developed was applied to personal respiratory cycle so that it could provide comfortable respiratory triggering to patients. To give sufficient time for practice, we used modular portable device to practice easily and to be undetered by time and place. We have intended to improve efficiency and accuracy by providing it to patients. We are now planning to conduct experiment of 10 peoples to find out stability, degree of durability betterment and regularity of respiration when patients are using respiratory training system. There are three kinds of breathing style. First is free breathing that Individual patients can breathe freely. Second is guide breathing that patients apply to personal respiration cycle through the guiding sight and hearing program. Third is prediction breathing that patients breathe after respiratory training without guiding sight and hearing program. By using these 3 data of respiration method, we have evaluated usability of respiratory training system by quantitatively analyzing respiration period, amplitude and area's variation.

  • Purpose: In order to enhance the efficiency of respiratory gated 4-dimensional radiation therapy for more regular and stable respiratory period and amplitude, a respiration training system was designed, and its efficacy was evaluated. Materials and Methods: The experiment was designed to measure the difference in respiration regularity following the use of a training system. A total of 11 subjects (9 volunteers and 2 patients) were included in the experiments. Three different breathing signals, including free breathing (free-breathing), guided breathing that followed training software (guided-breathing), and free breathing after the guided-breathing (post guided-breathing), were consecutively recorded in each subject. The peak-to-peak (PTP) period of the breathing signal, standard deviation (SD), peak-amplitude and its SD, area of the one cycle of the breathing wave form, and its root mean square (RMS) were measured and computed. Results: The temporal regularity was significantly improved in guided-breathing since the SD of breathing period reduced (free-breathing 0.568 vs guided-breathing 0.344, p=0.0013). The SD of the breathing period representing the post guided-breathing was also reduced, but the difference was not statistically significant (free-breathing 0.568 vs. guided-breathing 0.512, p=ns). Also the SD of measured amplitude was reduced in guided-breathing (free-breathing 1.317 vs. guided-breathing 1.068, p=0.187), although not significant. This indicated that the tidal volume for each breath was kept more even in guided-breathing compared to free-breathing. There was no change in breathing pattern between free-breathing and guided-breathing. The average area of breathing wave form and its RMS in postguided-breathing, however, was reduced by 7% and 5.9%, respectively. Conclusion: The guided-breathing was more stable and regular than the other forms of breathing data. Therefore, the developed respiratory training system was effective in improving the temporal regularity and maintaining a more even tidal volume.

  • The present study was designed to investigate the effect of the difficulty level of retrieval practice and the association strength of categories and stimuli within categories on memory inhibition. Most of the studies have investigated whether inhibition was occurred by manipulating the degree of association strength, emotion value or physical characteristics of non-retrieval practice words within the retrieval practice category. Therefore, it was necessary to study how inhibition occurs according to the degree of difficulty of retrieval stimuli during retrieval practice. The difficulty of retrieval was manipulated into three levels: difficult condition, normal condition, and easy condition through the degree of presentation of consonants and vowels of words during retrieval learning. Additionally, the strength of association between categories and words within categories was manipulated. In previous studies, retrieval-induced forgetting occurred under conditions where the association strength between categories and words within the categories was strong. On the other hand, retrieval-induced forgetting did not occur under conditions where the association strength between categories and words within the categories was weak. The present study, if the inhibition process differs according to the difficulty of retrieval, the possibility of different results from previous studies was explored according to the difference in the strength of association with the category. As a result of the study, in the condition of strong association strength, retrieval-induced forgetting was observed under normal and difficult retrieval difficulty conditions. Whereas retrieval-induced forgetting was not observed under conditions of easy retrieval difficulty condition. In the condition of weak association strength, retrieval-induced forgetting tended to occur under difficult retrieval difficulty conditions. Whereas retrieval-induced forgetting was not observed under conditions of normal and easy retrieval difficulty condition. These results suggest that memory inhibition may appear differently depending on the difficulty of retrieval.

  • Recently, the US commanded a wargame simulation system of a combined ROK-US exercise with single federation. However, after the OPCON transfer, many limitations to the single federation have been cited such as security policies and information protection. We suggest a hierarchical federation as a way to overcome these problems. Regarding HLA rules, the participants use the same FOM and RTI in single federation. There are limitations to implement CI in applying heterogeneous FOMs and RTIs in current single federation. Therefore, we propose implementing CI with heterogeneous FOMs and RTIs in a hierarchical federation. This system overcomes the weaknesses of the system structure, which is a disadvantage of the single federation. In the federation test, we can apply heterogeneous FOMs and RTIs and achieve similar performance to the current combined exercise simulation. In conclusion, ROK should lead the simulation system of combined exercises using the CI after the OPCON transfer.

  • In an environment where English is a foreign language, English learners can use AI voice chatbots in English-speaking practice activities to enhance their speaking motivation, provide opportunities for communication practice, and improve their English speaking ability. In this study, we propose a teaching-style AI voice chatbot that can be easily utilized by lower elementary school students and enhance their learning. To apply the Teachable Agent system to language learning, which is an activity based on tense, context, and memory, we proposed a new method of TA by applying the Teachable Agent to reflect the learner's English pronunciation and level and generate the agent's answers according to the learner's errors and implemented a Teachable Agent AI chatbot prototype. We conducted usability evaluations with actual elementary English teachers and elementary school students to demonstrate learning effects. The results of this study can be applied to motivate students who are not interested in learning or elementary school students to voluntarily participate in learning through role-switching.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze the effects of sports fun factors on the willingness to continue exercising and psychological happiness of table tennis club members. The participants in this study collected data using a questionnaire about sports fun factors, willingness to continue exercising, and psychological happiness of 293 table tennis club members. The factors influencing the willingness to continue exercising were identified as victory/competition, interpersonal relationships, practice/benefit, and family support, and the will to continue exercising was found to have a significant static influence on both self-realization and hedonic pleasure. As a result of the mediating effect analysis of the will to continue exercise, the mediating effects of fun factors such as competence/awareness, victory/competition, interpersonal relationships, practice/benefits, and family support, on psychological happiness, self-realization and hedonic pleasure are confirmed as mediating effect except for competence/perception. In particular, it was confirmed that the interpersonal relationship (team atmosphere) factor had a higher mediating effect on self-realization and hedonic pleasure than other factors.
