  • The SASW (Spectral-Analysis-of-Surface-Waves) method, which evaluates the stiffness structure of the subsurface and structures nonintrusively and nondestructively, has been successfully used in the civil engineering applications. However, the SASW method assumes that the subsurface or structures consist of horizontal multi-layers, so that the method has some difficulty in continuously evaluating the integrity of a tunnel lining and a pavement system. This difficulty prevents the SASW method from being used to generate a tomographic image of stiffness for the subsurface or structures. Recently, the GPR technique which has the advantage of continuously evaluating integrity of the subsurface and structures has been popular. This advantage of GPR technique initiated the efforts to make the SASW method, which is superior to GPR and other nondestructive testing methods due to its capability of evaluating stiffness and modulus, be able to do continuous evaluation of stiffness structure, and the efforts finally lead to the development of \ulcornerTomographic SASW Technique.\ulcorner Tomographic SASW technique is a variation of the SASW method, and can generate a tomographic image of stiffness structure along the measurement line. The tomographic SASW technique was applied to the investigation of lateral variability of a sand box placed by the raining method for the purpose of verifying its effectiveness. Tomographic SASW measurements on the sand box revealed that the investigated sand box has different shear stiffness along the measurement line, which gave a clue of how to make a better raining device.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a improved high-order continuum model among macroscopic traffic flow models. This study was mainly performed for uninterrupted flow. In the first step, the proposed model described traffic flow at dropped lane. (no exits) It was possible to describe the traffic flow during short-term considering lane change. The proposed model was based on Payne's model. Our model was newly applied to uninterrupted traffic flow in consideration of geometry condition and driver behavior. It is possible to establish efficient control strategies, simulation and assess the effects of geometric improvements using this model. This model was simulated with field data for the actual adaption. The results of the model tests, traffic volume and density is suitably represented. we think that the results in the article can be led to predicting the situation in the near future.

  • In recent years, utilization of underground space has been increasing in various parts of the world. In particular, open-cut method is usually applied to the shallow depth excavation. However some problems such as extreme traffic congestion and unstability of adjacent structures etc. might occur. In order to cope with these problems, the M-CAM (Modified Cellular Arch Method) method was proposed to excavate soil tunnels at shallow depth with secured enough stability and minimized construction period. In this study, sensitivity analysis was performed to predict the influence of the size of CPW(Continuous Pile Wall) and ground conditions on the behavior of the tunnel. First of all, embedded depth and diameter (or thickness) of CPW, coefficient of lateral earth pressure, and ground conditions were selected as parameters that could affect tunnel stability. Meanwhile, FLAC 2D based on finite difference method was used for numerical analysis. As a result of this study, it was checked out that embedded depth among sizes of CPW had a greatest influence on the stability of a tunnel.

  • A video is a vivid medium similar to human's visual-linguistic experiences, since it can inculcate a sequence of situations, actions or dialogues that can be told as a story. In this study, we propose story learning/regeneration frameworks from videos with successive event order supervision for contextual coherence. The supervision induces each episode to have a form of trajectory in the latent space, which constructs a composite representation of ordering and semantics. In this study, we incorporated the use of kids videos as a training data. Some of the advantages associated with the kids videos include omnibus style, simple/explicit storyline in short, chronological narrative order, and relatively limited number of characters and spatial environments. We build the encoder-decoder structure with successive event order embedding, and train bi-directional LSTMs as sequence models considering multi-step sequence prediction. Using a series of approximately 200 episodes of kids videos named 'Pororo the Little Penguin', we give empirical results for story regeneration tasks and SEOE. In addition, each episode shows a trajectory-like shape on the latent space of the model, which gives the geometric information for the sequence models.

  • The production of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) using Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) was investigated. The experiments were performed in two fabricated SBRs (4 L) of different oxidation state. Synthetic wastewater was used as substrate, using C/N/P ratio of 42:10:1. SBR 1 and SBR 2 were operated in aerobic dynamic feeding (ADF) and anaerobic/oxic dynamic feeding (AODF) condition, respectively. ADF provide feast and famine in aerobic condition, while AODF in anaerobic/oxic condition. PHAs production was found high in AODF than AOF. Maximum PHAs content of 40.0% (w/w)of biomass were produced in AODF mode. Produced PHAs structural and thermal property were good.

  • This paper presents a low power CMOS continuous-time $\Sigma\Delta$ (sigma-delta) modulator for UMTS receivers. The loop filter of the continuous-time $\Sigma\Delta$ modulator consists of an active-RC filter which performs high linearity characteristics and has a simple tuning circuit for low power operating system The architecture of this modulator is the $3^{rd}-order$ 4-bit single loop configuration with a 24 of OSR (Oversampling Ratio) to increase the power efficiency. The modulator includes a half delay feedback path to compensate the excess loop delay. The experimental results of the modulator are 71dB, 65dB and 74dB of the peak SNR, peak SMR and dynamic range, respectively. The continuous-time $\Sigma\Delta$ modulator is fabricated in a 0.18-um 1P4M CMOS standard process and dissipates 15mW for a single supply voltage of 1.8V.

  • Horizontal cracks at the mid-depth of concrete slabs were observed at a section of the continuously reinforced concrete pavement(CRCP) structures on the Korea Highway Corporation's Test Road. To investigate the existence and the extent of horizontal cracks in the concrete slab, a number of cores were taken from the section of CRCP. To identify the causes of horizontal cracks, numerical analyses were conducted. Several variables relative to design, material, and environment were considered in the studies to evaluate possible causes of horizontal cracking. A numerical model of CRCP was developed using the finite element discretization, and the shear and normal tensile stress distributions in CRCP were investigated with the model. Numerical analysis results show that the maximum shear and normal tensile stresses develop near the depth of steel bars at transverse cracks. If those maximum stresses reach the strength of concrete, horizontal cracks occur. The maximum stresses become higher as the environmental loads, coefficient of thermal expansion of concrete, and elastic modulus of concrete increase.
